L&S49004 Posted January 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2009 How busy is the ship, specifically the pools, on in port days? I've never been on a cruise before, and my only concern is that the pools always look really crowded. If I stayed onboard, would the pool be less crowded? Also, are all of the ship's amenities (restaurants, etc.) still available while the ship is in port? Thanks!
paul929207 Posted January 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2009 The pools are pretty empty on port days. As you approach sailing time, the area will fill up.
Tanker4 Posted January 1, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 1, 2009 The pools are pretty empty on port days. As you approach sailing time, the area will fill up. Also, at least on RCL, the dining room is closed during port hours but the Windjammer (buffet) is open.
Capt_BJ Posted January 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2009 Some of the eating venues will open - you certainly can get food some bars will be open - you certainly can get a drink often the salon/health club/spa will be open and sometimes run specials because things are solw usually the shops and casino must stay closed due to local regulations (they want you to go ashore and use THEIRS) expect some pool side entertainment as departure approaches, but not much entertainment other than that. cb at sea Posted January 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2009 Port days are a great time to really use that ship! It's almost like your own, private yacht! Few folks are onboard and it's quite pleasant! Everything is open, except the casino and perhaps the dining room. There will be food available, and some activities. The bars (most of them!) will be open for business!
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 2, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2009 When the ship is in port the pools are relatively empty as most passengers get off the ship. It's when the ship is at sea during the day that the pools can be busy but all of this depends on the itinerary and the outdoor temperatures. trish1c Posted January 2, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2009 On port days you can relax at the pool in relative comfort & solitude. On sea days they are overcrowded messes. It's not so much that people are in the water but that people are all over the decks.
