Hello All

I have been lurking and reading for awhile now and it has made me so excited for our upcoming Holiday. This will be my second SD cruise, my first Caribbean. Last year it was the Med. You all are wonderful with the info. We are also cruising on March 6th, but on SD 1. We want to spend time in STT on that sad last day.....We are also celebrating our anniversary, plus a birthday...Hubby has never cruised so I am excited to show him the SD experience, which I have had! He teases "I'm not goin!" Doesn't want to leave his doggy! We are airline people and have been everywhere...flying alot to the Caribbean for work, (out of CLT) we just love it there. Had our honeymoon at the Ritz in STT. So I just couldn't continue lurking...had to say hello!!

Glad to see that you have de-lurked and decided to post!! Come join the fun!!

How wonderful that you are introducing your DH to cruising ... he will be spoiled for life once he has sailed on SD ... but you already know that:p

We too are sailing on March 6 but we are on SD2. Our paths or should I say wakes will cross while we are sailing ... at least I think we might.

I wonder if our paths will cross sooner as we are flying out of CLT to AUA later this month and of course to SJU on March 5 but you won't be working then I suspect!!

DJ's DH and DJ's DD will join me for a few days while I visit with my parents who spend 6 weeks on Aruba each winter (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to travel).

Did you let the folks at SD reservations know that you are celebrating your anniversary AND your DH's birthday? I am sure they will do something special to mark the ocassion.

So understand about not wanting to leave the doggy ... DH is in Sweden this week and I think he checks in with me to see how our two goldens are fairing while he is away never mind the 16-year old:p

If you have any questions about sailing SD in the Caribbean please ask away!

DH travels a lot for business (he logged over 100K on USAir last year and about half that on SAS) so the last thing he wants to do is be away from his two four-legged blondes (golden retrievers) ... and on yeah his two two-legged blondes (DD and me).

Our SD cruise in March is the FIRST TIME in our 25 years of marriage (most of them happy) that we are taking a 10-day vacation .... one night in SJU and nine glorious nights on SD. That's a lot of nights away from the "girls."

Who knows what we will come home too (where is that fainting smilie when I need it?)

Thank you for all your comments...I must say, we are RETIRED USAirways crew. DH was the Captain (I am now!):D It was a great life! Now we are free to get away....and you all understand!! About the DOG!!! (A 2 year old Black Labrador juvenile delinquent!! He is such a good boy, when he is asleep!!) We would not travel anymore at all, except THIS is a must. I want to go on a SD cruise EVERY year, and now that I am the Captain:D maybe I'll have a say! Oh yes, SD knows about our anniversary, and we are traveling in the same room as I did before 314. A great room.

What I want to share about SD is the wonderful proximity of everything. If you forget something in your room you don't have to travel miles to get it! I love the small yacht atmosphere. We did not have a "Splash" in the Med last summer, of course, so I am looking forward to that Caribbean special party!

Oh and I have a P.S. to my last post....DisneyJen please don't take ALL the champagne from SDI when we are docked together!! (I read your post!...lurking....) I drink it too!! Congrats on your 25th, it is only our 7th! I'm kinda wishing I booked SD2 this time!!!

Cheers!

Congrats on being RETIRED!! I retired after 15 years in the world of higher education when DH moved me from my beloved Pennsylvania to NC some 6 years ago.

And we all know that you have always been the CAPTAIN:p Sshh ... It's in the wife handbook.

I chuckled when I read your comment about your "juvenile delinquent" lab. Those of us who have had the joy of a lab know that it takes at least two years for them to settle down. Our chocolate lab, Hershey (who crossed the Rainbow Bridge three years ago) was one crazy dog even at the ripe old age of 11!! Our goldens are very laid back ... although FT and zqvol, who have met them, may beg to differ:p

Can't make any promises on the champagne ... FT + DisneyJen = LOTS of champagne:D Since it is a special ocassion for you and your DH we'll make sure to leave you a bottle or two:p

The Champagne and Caviar Splash is truly the highlight on the Caribbean cruises. Words fail me (hard to believe I know for those of you who know me in RL) on how to describe standing in the warm Caribbean surf, drinking perfectly chilled champagne and nibbling on perfectly toasted bread, caviar and the accroutments (where is that sign smilie when I need it??). I can't indulge on the caviar anymore so I make up the difference with champage;)

The last thing to make the Splash complete is to arrange for a massage or relfexology session on the beach. I usually schedule mine for around 2 p.m. followed by a nap on the beach ... Oh March cannot get here fast enough!!

Thanks for comparing the itineraries zqvol!

Ohmiss ... let us know if you would to catch up with some of the CCers who will be on SD2 that week when we are in SJU or St. Barths.

Zqvol ... Appreciate the compliment on my fur babies:D

Glad you came out of Lurkdom to join us. Welcome, and I hope your countdown goes fast! :)

Oh, the Champagne & Caviar Splash! DJ is right about its greatness. It's so much fun. You've had all week (so to speak) to develop friendships with fellow passengers. Sharing a glass of champagne with them in the surf is quite the experience.

I do have a word of advice: be sure to eat a good breakfast of protein & whole grains (assuming you aren't allergic to that kind of thing). It was shocking to me how much the Caribbean sun sapped my energy. On the day of our Splash, we snorkeled in the morning, had the Splash, went to the pool, then cocktail hour, then dinner. I think I dozed off at dinner, I was so exhausted!

If you'd like to see pictures & read about our Splash, go to my blog & click on the Mayreau post in the Blog Archive on the right. www.myseadream.blogspot.com

Thank you, Cammiem, your blog is great. Took me back to the same places in Italy! I just loved the olive oil presentation at the Hotel Splendido in Portafino! Your pictures are just beautiful!

I would love to catch up with the CC'ers somewhere! I feel like I already know you and you all sound like so much fun!! We are spending the night of the 5th in SJU at the hotel in the airport--because we know it from all our SJU layovers. The plan is to go into Old Town for lunch and then whatever!!

About the sun getting to me....Can't wait!! From my teenage years until 2 years ago when we retired I lived in South Florida...DH wanted to move to Northern Idaho...ouch! It IS cold up here!! Seems like we did the opposite of most retired people!! Take me home to the sea breezes and warmth of the SUN!! Oh, I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

DisneyJen---we have spent alot of time on St. John and all your advise about the island is spot on! You should work for the chamber of commerce there:D!! We love it there too...

Sea Dream, here we come...just have to hold on for 43 more days!!

Hi, ohmiss! Thanks so much for the kind words. :) We really enjoyed the olive oil class at Splendido. Was Luca your maitre d' & "instructor?" Didn't you just love the personalized menu? It was all a great experience! I can't wait to get back over there. And, experiencing it SeaDream-style...*wistful sigh*

Those 43 days will go fast. Next thing you know, you'll be kissing the cold weather in northern Idaho goodbye and saying a big hello to the warmth of the Caribbean & the pampering onboard. I'm jealous! LOL :D

DJ's DH and I haven't made any plans for the 6th other than boarding our beloved SD:D

I know that FT, zqvol, Mr. and Mrs. jbcjtc, DJ's DH and I are all flying in on the 5th and staying at different hotels. Not sure when RaySan and MarDav are coming in or where they are staying.

I don't know SJU all that well so if someoone wants to organize a get together for lunch or a drink before we board in SJU I'll help with the organizational stuff.

Idaho versus Florida ... in the winter??? Good thing you are heading to the warmth of the Caribbean in 42 days!!

St. John is a very special place. We really do love it there ... as a matter of fact we will renew our wedding vows the evening we are in STJ.

Don't give DJ's DH any ideas about jobs for me, lol.

Do you think we should do that or start a new thread that entitled something like "CC meet March 6?"

I am flexible:p

We arrive around 11:00 p.m. on the 5th staying at the Sheraton. I bet we can get them to hold luggage for us until boarding time, especially if we dine with them and enjoy their casino before the ship.

I'm sure my DW can work some magic to arrange something.

You may have to do it, she has to go to Mexico for a week, then Brazil and Chile for 10 days for work. Maybe we can work on it together while the traveling spouses go all over the world.

since the traveling spouse has not yet left, she's not quite ready to turn over her control freak reins. While I haven't been there lately, I do believe Cammiem recommended the restaurant with the outside terrace at the Sheraton. I would be more than happy to use my SPG status to explore making reservations for lunch (and perhaps the necessary luggage carts and porters to roll our luggage down to the ships) if that option is one the group thinks worthwhile? I believe that there aren't too many ships in San Juan that day, so our custom might be greatly appreciated.

I do know that since SD has removed the slots I will lose all my money at the Sheraton . .. the never empty champagne glass does tend to dull my senses even more for Blackjack at the ship's casino and too little time, too much to do to learn to play poker while at sea on SD.

Sounds like a good plan.
