Peter Greenburg special on the Pearl

CNBC is having the show called "Cruise Inc: Big Money on the High Seas" on Tuesday 3/24/09 at 09:00 pm (EDT) to discuss the multi-billion dollar cruise industry.

It's the ultimate getaway... an exclusive look inside the $30-billion cruise industry. Correspondent Peter Greenberg spends seven days aboard the Norwegian Pearl, one of the newest in Norwegian Cruise Line's fleet. The 15-story floating city is a destination of its own. It's a hotel, a shopping mall, a casino and full-service Spa - sailing the oceans of the world. And be prepared to spend on everything from oil paintings to Botox!

Big ships cost big money, and one misstep, whether it's bad weather, a late departure or even running short on beer, can mean the difference between profits and loss.

Time to set your DVRs.

This special will also show the refurbishment of the Spirit!

I have my DVR set for all the episodes of this series. I didn't know about the Spirit refurb, and since I will be sailing on her this fall, I am really excited about seeing this show.

From the CNBC website, they note on this show: “CNBC takes you aboard a city at sea where passengers are enticed to spend big money. But can this fast growing segment of the travel industry navigate the rough seas of a slumping economy and stay afloat?

NBC travel correspondent Peter Greenberg takes you cruising for profits, premiering tonight at 9p, 10p and 1a ET.”

They also call this show an “exclusive look inside the $30-billion cruise industry” as the famed travel writer spent seven days aboard the Norwegian Pearl. The network’s hype warns: “be prepared to spend on everything from oil paintings to Botox!”

Enjoy??!! Terry in Ohio

If you close your eyes, it's like your there! So far it's kind of interesting. It good to find things out you weren'y quite sure of or didn;t know at all.

Sad about the Noway. I didn't know 8 crew members lost their lives.

I swear Simon (was that his name) was on the Gem last year becasue that voice annoucing Shopping , Shopping and more shopping etc, sounded so much like the guy on the GEM. HA HA!

That was sad. Hopefully the drills will keep it from ever happening again.

and we got to meet Kevin Sheehan & Andy Stuart. Saw a great overview of the ship and the money they can make or lose. Pearl was not sold out but they made money. Stuart was quite proud. Safety was shown as #1 with all the cameras & security watching. "Folks behave when they are being watched" the Hotel Director stated. Got to see the half done Epic too! A shot of Spirit being refurbished from theatre & all the seats to the carpet all through the ship.

So we again hear Carnival 50%, RCCL 30% & NCL 10% but growing to be the best! Then they reran the show at 10PM for folks that missed it.

Watched it and we're watching it again right now. She's a beauty that Pearl.

Shame the rain ruined the day for Roatan. We had the most enjoyable day there.

Just returned a month ago and are ready to go back.

Wonder what Simon does for vacation... Does he ever sleep? Someone give that man a raise!
