What to do in Tunis?

Next month my husband and I are doing our first European cruise. Any recommendations for Tunis? We have ideas for most of the ports of call, but not sure whether to take a 'ship' excursion or just enjoy the city and markets. Anyone on the Summit 30 April? thanks.....:p

Welcome to Cruise Critic and thank you for your post! However, you have posted on the Cruise Blogs & Websites Forum where members share the site for their personal cruise-related travelogue blogs or websites. This is not the correct forum for your post since it is off topic here. 05.gif

You need to read the Sticky thread titled What is a ROLL CALL and how do I find mine? at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=44773? The Sticky thread will tell you about our Roll Calls and how to locate the Roll Call thread for your cruise. That's the correct place for you to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you before the cruise.

To help you find your Roll Call thread quicker, click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=799099 for your Celebrity Summit "Connections" Roll Call thread titled April 30, 2009 Western Med Cruise 10 days.

Don't forget to register for the "Connections" Party hosted by Celebrity Cruises for you and your fellow Cruise Critic Roll Call members. This will be a time and place on the ship with refreshments to meet everyone face to face after getting to know one another on your Roll Call thread. Click the following links for more information:

- Connections InfoandCelebrity Connections FAQ

- Register to attend a Connections Party

- Search for a Connections Party

To research for information about your ports of call click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 for the Ports of Call Forums list. In your case, you will want to research the Ports of Call - Europe - Mediterranean - Eastern & Western Forum at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=234. The Ports of Call Forums are where you can research for tours, excursions, transportation etc. Your fellow Cruise Critic members post their reviews/recommendations there. Also, your fellow Roll Call members may have posted information in your Roll Call thread too. In fact, a Roll Call thread is the ONLY place on Cruise Critic where Roll Call members can post personal ads about sharing tours, excursions, transportation etc. with each other. A Roll Call thread has a "captive audience" since Roll Call members are sailing together!

Since you are new to European cruises, click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=97 to research our First Time Cruisers Forum. For additional information, click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=114 to research our Ask a Cruise Question Forum.

Please feel free to use the Search this Forum feature on all Cruise Critic message board forums with your key word or words. It will help narrow down the threads you will want to read during your research. Also, you can see if your inquiry has been asked and answered before. And it probably has... many, many times! 05.gif

Click the Search this Forum feature to open the drop down. Type in your key word or words then click the little Go button. I suggest you do not try a search with too many or too common of key words at one time. This will sometimes overwhelm the search feature with too many threads to scan and it will time out. From time to time, you may receive an error message that says "Search function is down". PLEASE TRY AGAIN in a few moments. This message will often pop up during the busiest times of the day.

The following information may be helpful too:

Be sure to read our FAQ, especially the Getting Started section. You will see how a new topic should be consistent with the specific forum you choose. It also gives a brief summary of the topics covered in some of the forum sections. Other important FAQ sections are Subscriptions (Receiving e-mail notification of replies to posts and threads you specify) and User Maintenance.

Click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/index.php for the list of all Cruise Critic message board forums and be sure to read all Announcement and Sticky threads at the top of the various forums for very important information or instructions.

In the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free membership, please note the Please Browse BEFORE You Post section since many of your questions may have been asked and answered before as mentioned above.

When doing your research, be sure you are on the correct forum. After you have browsed/researched for your topic and possibly not found an answer, word your new inquiry title so the other members scrolling through the thread titles will know exactly the information you seek. This will help the members as they scroll through the thread titles so they can reply to you. It is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic or concerning one cruise line, port of call, etc. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship & sail date in your inquiry if it will help the members with their answers to you.

If you wonder what some of the icons/symbols/arrows on Cruise Critic mean, just use your mouse to hover your cursor over the item and most often a tool-tip will appear with the name or action.

I sincerely hope this information will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Take a ship's tour like we did -we chose to do Carthage and Sidi Bou Said

away from soukhs where haggling for every single thing is a pain!

What we saw and did was very pleasant

and we were glad we went ashore, and didn't simple stay on the ship!

We did Carthage & Sidi Bou Said with Costa -- definately one port where I would ONLY take a ship's tour. Sidi Bou Said is a fair distance away, but lovely, and you don't want any reason for the ship to set sail without you (because you tried to arrange something on your own). Be forewarned, however, that merchants will give you back change in .50 euros as they are useless there (only 1 euro and up has value). Additonally, I saw a fellow cruiser severly ripped off in Carthage because the costs for beverages and snacks were listed in DINAR but he was charged the same amount in EURO.
