We are used to paying £100 per person with Celebrity - but the 10% worked out about the same. I didn't realise this was a new thing. What did it used to be? SeattleCruiselover Posted April 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2009 They're dropping it back down to 10%??!!???!!! It was 30% for a few months, then down to 20%. Nice if they really do it.

My miminum deposit for my Ruby cruise (which was cancelled, but that's another story) was $465 on a total fare of around $2325. That's 20%. Cruise Junky Posted April 9, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2009 10% would be wonderful. 30% was a disaster that didn't take them long to fix.
Woodmnky Posted April 9, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2009 I just tried a "Test" booking for a 7 day Caribbean in Nov 09. A deposit that was roughly 20% was required to secure the booking.
dresch25 Posted April 9, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted April 9, 2009 I just booked the two 3-day cruises on the Ruby in December and the deposit in relation to the cruise price is 17% for the first leg and 18% for the second. Go figure:confused::confused:
Pam in CA Posted April 9, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 9, 2009 I just booked the two 3-day cruises on the Ruby in December and the deposit in relation to the cruise price is 17% for the first leg and 18% for the second. Go figure:confused::confused:Weird. Other than the FCC, there hasn't been a flat rate deposit my knowledge. Anyway, the FCC is still a bargain. I was going to use my FCC for these two cruises but since they are only 3 day cruises I didn't get any OBC so I put the deposit on my credit card. By the way Pam were you in the airport in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday? There was a woman who was waiting for a plane that looked exactly as your profile picture.

sloney Posted April 9, 2009 #15 Share Posted April 9, 2009 I'm a canadian, booking through the Canadian site and I had to pay $1000 for two people. It seemed to be a flat rate not dependant of the actual fare.

Cruise Junky Posted April 10, 2009 #17 Share Posted April 10, 2009 We booked today for Pacific Princess, August 19th, 2010...my deposit...per person...are you ready???? $80...WTH??? Wasn't even worth using a FCC. I had the TA double check and she said for some sailings Princess was running a deposit special. Checked my credit card, it was only charged $160. TomCruises Posted April 10, 2009 #18 Share Posted April 10, 2009 Traditionally, Princess has required a 20% deposit. I booked recently a PS category and only paid a $200 deposit total. I believe this was a promotion they were offering at the time. Celebrity/Azamara usually require a 10%-15% deposit.
DrivesLikeMario Posted April 10, 2009 #19 Share Posted April 10, 2009 Princess Deposits for the US & Canada: Generally, 20% of the cruise fare $100 per person when they're having a Cruise Sale or the agency you're booking through is having one $100 per person if you're using an FCC It used to be set amounts like with Celebrity, RCI, HAL, NCL, etc., then they went to 30% of the cruise fare for a very short time, then they dropped it down to 20%. cruisenuts4life Posted April 10, 2009 #21 Share Posted April 10, 2009 Princess was running specials last month booked our cruise only 100.00 for deposit.I think that ended April 1.
califgary Posted April 10, 2009 #22 Share Posted April 10, 2009 Exactly on the FCC! I love those! We booked 14 day hawaii, used the $200 FCC to secure the reservation and now have a $200 OBC - how can you beat that?
DrivesLikeMario Posted April 10, 2009 #23 Share Posted April 10, 2009 I agree. The only time it isn't worth using an FCC is if you're booking a short 3 or 4 day cruise.
Cruise Junky Posted April 10, 2009 #24 Share Posted April 10, 2009 Yes, it was worth using an FCC. Without using it, you will not get the "free money" in the form of onboard credit for this cruise. Well techinically for us, it wasn't worth it. We are hoping to use it for an exotic or asia cruise when they come out. So it would have far more weight on a cruise where I have to pay a 20% deposit. If I'd have had more than one on hand, then of course.
Treven Posted April 10, 2009 #25 Share Posted April 10, 2009 I was under the impression that the deposit amount was based upon the type of cabin and the length of the cruise.
