Cigar smoking room on Solstice?

I wanted to know if there is a special area/room that allows cigar smoking on the Solstice? I know we can from our balcony but wasn't sure on the other parts of the ship.

Thanks,

Jennifer

You are not allowed to smoke anything on one's balcony.

This comes from the Celebrity website.

For all Celebrity ships, smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on any stateroom veranda. Cigarette smoking will only be permitted in designated indoor and outdoor areas of the ship, while cigar and pipe smoking will only be permitted in designated outdoor areas. Smoking will not be permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, hallway, elevator or corridor.

Here are the rules and regs for Solstice as of October 1, 2008:

--Port side of SKY, our observation lounge on Deck 14

Please note: Cigar an Pipe smoking is not permitted in this location

--Port side of Pool Deck, Deck 12

--Starboard Side of Sun Deck, Deck 14

--Deck 5 port side promenade where chairs, tables and ashtrays are provided.

--Sunset bar, starboard side, Deck 15 aft.

This is also the designated area for Cigar and Pipe smoking.

Please use the allocated ashtrays in the above areas.

Hi Jennifer,

I'm sorry it took so many posts for a respectful, thorough answer, but Finely has given you the correct information above. Enjoy your cruise!:)

Jennifer I hope you just inadvertently left the 't off that ,"I know we [can ]from our balcony.

Because as has been pointed out to you now, you cannot smoke anything whatever in your cab or on your balcony on Celebrity. and this rule IS enforced in case you were wondering.

Hi Lois-

All this reference to Age of Aquarius really hurts since we won't be able to get to the Epcot Flower & Garden Show concert Memorial Day weekend featuring them. We will be down in Florida that weekend since our two granddaughters have their dance recital that weekend. But we will be going to Disney to see Jose Feliciano the weekend before & Tony Orlando the weekend after.

But wasn't that song also in the musical Hair - don't know if it was in the stage show but I believe it was in the movie.

There is the possibility that she booked the cruise before the new regulations and did not know about the change...

As a matter of fact I did book this cruise last June 2008 and I heard they were going to have a cigar area and you could smoke on your balcony.

So needless to say......:(

Don't know where you heard that you could smoke on your balcony - If you booked this cruise in June 2008, the new policy that was to start in Oct. 2008 had already been announced in early April 2008.

Here is the April 2008 press release:

Celebrity Cruises Revamps Smoking Policy First premium cruise line to join trend toward cleaner-air environment

Miami - (April 10, 2008 ) - Cruise enthusiasts may praise the virtues of "sea air," but to many of them, what matters more is clean air. As more hotels and restaurants worldwide implement stricter smoking policies in order to promote healthier air, Celebrity Cruises also is taking action. Beginning October 1, 2008, guests on Celebrity's ships will enjoy fresher air as a result of a new policy that disallows smoking in Celebrity's staterooms or on stateroom verandas. The policy also will reduce the number of public areas in which guests can smoke onboard.

"We are proud to be the first premium cruise line to set a new standard toward creating an environment of cleaner air on our ships," said Celebrity Cruises President & CEO Dan Hanrahan. "We pay careful attention to what our guests have to say, and approximately 90 percent of them have told us they are non-smokers. By increasing the number of smoke-free areas onboard while still designating areas for those who smoke, our aim is to make the onboard experience as pleasant as possible for all of our guests."

The new policy, created after Celebrity polled past guests, will result in a cleaner, fresher and healthier environment on Celebrity's ships. Designated indoor areas where guests can smoke cigarettes include the port side of one lounge per ship and a designated slot machine area in each ship's casino. The new policy also designates outdoor areas where guests can smoke. These include the port side of the pool deck and sundecks on each ship, the port side of the Sunset Bar on Celebrity Century and on Celebrity's Millennium class of ships, and the port side aft outside of Winter Garden on Celebrity Galaxy and Celebrity Mercury. Celebrity's new Solstice class of ships, launching with Celebrity Solstice late this year, will follow the new policy beginning with the first sailing. Celebrity Solstice's Lawn Club and the Sunset Bar at the Lawn Club will not allow smoking. Violations to Celebrity's smoking policy may result in a $250 cleaning fee charged to the guest's onboard account and may also be addressed through the line's guest conduct policy.

The new policy will go into effect on Celebrity's fleet on the first day of the first sailing to follow October 1: • Celebrity Galaxy, Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Mercury - October 3 sailings

• Celebrity Summit - October 4 sailing

• Celebrity Constellation - October 5 sailing

• Celebrity Century, Celebrity Millennium - October 6 sailings

• Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox - upon ship launch

Celebrity currently allows guests to smoke in staterooms, on stateroom verandas and in a number of indoor and outdoor public spaces. The exception is Celebrity Xpedition, the 92-person mega-yacht sailing year-round in the Galapagos Islands, which operates under a stricter policy than the rest of the fleet, allowing smoking only on the ship's outer decks, in designated areas.

That was just about the time the new regulations went into effect. I was already booked in the early fall of 2008 and had to cancel after the announcement. They DID NOT INFORM BOOKED PASSENGERS. If you didn't hear from word of mouth and check the website, you were SOL.

That was unforgivable to me. You don't pull "surprise" rules out after taking people's money. And you don't neglect to tell Elite Members about a huge smoking ban. But it's in the past now...

Cigloo's confusion is quite understandable.

Smoking is not "banned" on Celebrity. It's simply restricted to designated areas.

Semantics. There USED to be "designated areas", now the only places that are allowed are a few outdoor areas and a tiny corner of the disco. Less than 5%? of the ship. To me, you might as well ban it completely, as it's ridiculously inconvenient to get to those places without completely interrupting whatever activities you had planned.

I've never spent an evening hanging out at a closed pool bar or being blown around on Deck 5 (tiny area).

But you are CORRECT. I should have said "severely limited" areas...;)

As I stated before, Finely gave the correct info. To those of us who know the M class well, those areas aren't what most people would consider "designated areas", but more of a few "jail cells" on a very large ship.

Sorry - didn't mean to turn this into a smoking debate. OP's question was answered a long time ago.

The announcement was made in April 2008 - I posted the press release from April 10, 2008 regarding the new smoking policy on page one of this thread . The new smoking regulations took effect in October 2008.

I would think that the press release would have gone out to travel agents - who then should have informed their booked passengers.

Solstice was not "cigar friendly"--just a small area along side the grassy area & at the nearby bar--very windy back there. DH managed but I think they could find some space for cigar smokers to enjoy a cigar--maybe by clsoing off the back of the L in Michaels--only fitting since Michaels was the original cigar bar on X
