smoking in the casino

I have read on these boards that smoking is allowed in the casinos on princess ships.We are going on the Island in November can anyone tell me how smoky it is and is there a non smoking area-DH is hoping smoking will keep me out!

You asked a loaded question and you'll get every answer under the sun. I don't notice it being overly smoky - there were not non-smoking areas but I normally always ask my table partners if one cares and if any of them do, I don't. My wife doesn't like smoke and she said it wasn't bad at all. I also think it depends on the ship design as some are more open air than others.

 

There is typically a non-smoking night but I have found the action pretty light so I avoid those.

No non-smoking areas; the whole room is available to smoke in. The formal night(s) on your cruise will be non-smoking nights in the casino, FYI. It will be announced in your Princess Patter.

On the Pacific Princess in April, the casino had several smoke-free nights in which there was no smoking allowed, so they really tried to appease everyone. You had to walk through the casino to get to the main lounge and it was never too smoky. I have walked through some casinos on the big ships and was bothered by the excess smoke. Guess it depends on how many smokers are in there.

I've been on the Star and Diamond and thought it was non-smoking because I never noticed any smoke at all! The cigar bar is the only place I noticed smoke on the ship....They must have good ventilation. I don't think it'll be bothersome for you - I am very sensitive to smoke and don't like the smell and didn't notice it (although I admit I do like to smoke once in a while myself) but it wasn't obvious to me!

I'm a non smoker & will do anything to avoid the casino at any cost. Most are terrible with smoke & even smell from stale tobacco on the non smoking evenings. Of course this only my opinion as a smoke hater.

I'm also a non-smoker and spend a great deal of time in the casino and don't usually find it too smokey unless you sit next to a chimney chain smoker.

I think you'll find the non-smoking nights in the casino are usually dead. Gamblers are mostly smokers and drinkers. The cruise lines would cut their throats if they completely banned smoking in the casino. Money talks, *** walks.

I can't stand to even walk through the Casino. We go up and over. We just finished a transatlantic cruise on the Emerald. I was distressed to learn our disembarkation assignment was the casino. Fortunately, we are platinum, so we could wait in the Fusion lounge.

IMO, the comment that most Princess ship casinos smell of stale smoke and that they are very smokey is a gross exaggeration based on that poster's personal intense dislike of smoking.

 

I have never found that to be the case in the casinos of any of the Princess ships I have sailed on. In fact, unless one is sitting next to a smoker and the air current is blowing toward you, one only occasionally gets a whiff of the odor.

we were on the Island in March.

 

I thought there was one very small non-smoking area - it was the circular section a step or two above the rest where they had an advertised car as a win. Two cent machines. That said, it wouldn't even matter, because, as I said, it was a raised area and smoke rises so it wasn't smoke free. It was "off" the main floor on the outer edges with no close wall - opened to the hallway.

 

there were a two nights when the entire casino was smoke free - and the casino was quiet on those nights. Only night I was able to play at a machine I wanted.

 

We went in for a few minutes on most nights. My m-i-l who has asthma, couldn't stay for more than 5 minutes if at all - the smoke was bad. I don't like smoke, but I don't have any breathing problems, and once past the initial, "eeuch, the smoke" I could sit, provided I wasn't sitting next to a smoker. But the casino is so crowded usually, that finding a machine that I was willing to play, not next to a smoker, was hard, and then, inevitably, a smoker would sit next to me.

We also were assigned the casino as a disembarkation lounge on the CB. It still had a lot of stale smoke in the morning that burned my eyes and left me congested. We ended up going out in the hallway and continued to wait there for the next hour. No one forced us to go back in.

It's obvious that there are two basic opinions & very few in between. I've found that ALL Princess ships smell badly of smoke- some worse than others but you as a smoker don't pick up on the stench & obviously feel differently. I concede the casino to the smokers. Let them light up pipes, cigarettes, cigars and anything else that makes them happy- It certainly brings in the profits and keeps the smokers from lighting up on the rest of the ship.

Kind of judgemental..smokers and drinkers. There are lots of sane, non addicted folks who enjoy recreational gambling. I think there are often less smokers and drinkers than poolside.

When we were on the Grand last year, 1/2 of the casino is non smoking which I loved!!!

Actually, I found on several cruises the casino to be quite busy on the non-smoking nights.
