webprinter Posted October 4, 2009 #77 Share Posted October 4, 2009 I hope so, too! And I hope if Rhapsody does come back, she will be here year-round!!! :D I thought the Voyager was sailing out of Galveston. That is what we are booked on in March. Rare Host Kat Posted October 4, 2009 #78 Share Posted October 4, 2009 I thought the Voyager was sailing out of Galveston. That is what we are booked on in March. She is. It is just that Rhapsody of the Seas used to call Galveston home and many of us loved her and miss her now. Kat

CGBCruiser Posted October 6, 2009 #82 Share Posted October 6, 2009 I saw that article about RCCL and Carnival filing a suit against the Board in the newspaper yesterday. Interesting...
Rare Host Kat Posted October 6, 2009 #83 Share Posted October 6, 2009 My problem with it is that as a kid back in the late '50s & early '60s I babysat for some of the Galveston as well Houston pilots at that time. They have bills just like the rest of us. BUT, if it will help keep cruise prices down... well now... that's why I am divided on the situation at this time. I also think it is strange for two big competitors to be "in bed together" so to speak regarding the situation. But then... business is business. GregD Posted October 7, 2009 #84 Share Posted October 7, 2009 I also think it is strange for two big competitors to be "in bed together" so to speak regarding the situation. But then... business is business. Kat Remember too that all lines belong to the CLIA, which is a big lobby/interest group for the industry. The cruise industry is a unique relationship where even though there is trash talking between guys like Micky Arison and Richard Fain, they still have the common goal of getting the word out there about cruising. Texas Teen Posted October 10, 2009 Author #85 Share Posted October 10, 2009 I'm confused... What exactly is going on? I understand there is a lawsuit between the cruise lines & the pilots, but I'm confused about everything else!
ssb Posted October 10, 2009 #86 Share Posted October 10, 2009 I'm confused... What exactly is going on? I understand there is a lawsuit between the cruise lines & the pilots, but I'm confused about everything else! The Pilots are sticking together and the industry gaints are sticking together. Its all about business and rights from negogiated contracts. Its about costs to ship lines and financial pay to pilots. Its about safety to ships and passengers. Its about potential risks and resulting liability to ship lines.

What a wonderful one's life story down memory lane. Thanks for sharing! Galveston has also been in my all of my life. Looking forward to making more memories. One memory would be to see a couple that is aging (gracefully?) walking a gray-faced golden retriever along the seawall or The Strand.

JRock59 Posted November 13, 2009 #93 Share Posted November 13, 2009 In Galveston right now going on the Conquest Sunday....Murdochs gift shop that had been distroyed is not only rebuild but is OPEN! It looks a lot like the old building, you might not even know it's brand new until you look at the beach area underneath and see the old cement supports. Inside is layed out a lot like the old building. How wonderful it is to see this landmark on the seawall back up and running a year after being completely destroyed!!!!
