I play all over ever since they have craps, I've never won on any cruise(been on 5 cruises all on Carnival) but did have ton of fun I am an optimistic person and always thinking when playing have much better luck on land than sea but nothing beats craps on a cruise you can walk to it from your cabin and back. May be when you get back we can play together here in Black Hawk.

BTW..Craps table at Ameristar is way too bouncy.. all of them same with the Lodge, I like Johny Z, the Isle and Riviera. Have fun on ypur cruise and win a lot!!

Grandpaul,

I'm happy to hear about your roll. I was on the Gem in November of 2011 and set a personal record with a hand of 54 throws. I have booked another cruise on the Gem departing from NY on March 22 this year. It sounds like the table is still as good as I am hoping for. I gave this table a bounce rating of neutral. Since that cruise I've sailed on the Norwegian Star which had a very bouncy table. There seems to be no consistency with the bounce characteristics on Norwegian ships. The Jewel has a bouncy table and a friend was on the Epic and said that the table was bouncy also.

I've been on 6 or 7 Carnival ships and found that their craps tables are very consistent from ship to ship.

I'm leaving tomorrow on a 9 night cruise on Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas and have no idea what to expect.

Sounds like you and I have a lot in common, I try to stay optimistic, too, especially about CRAPS!! LOL - I've been meaning to try Isle and Riviera, but I get stuck on a table too long usually(working on that) then it's time to drive home. I'd definitely like to meet up in BH, we'll have to coordinate outside the thread once I get back home. :)

Based on what others have written, I'll need to exercise some discipline over the next week so I don't go nuts on the tables on the Allure. I need to be more keen on observing the bounciness of tables too, I usually get sucked into the fun of the game and then...well... the night goes on from there..

We got stuck here in Florida afte rour 4 day cruise on RCL because of the snow up north. Went on a little casino boat out of Port Canaveral yesterday for a 6 hour tour. A guy at our table had an hour roll at the end of the cruise. I wonder what they would have done if his roll didn't end before we docked? Nice problem to have.

This is not an unusual situation. A couple of minutes before the ship is getting ready to head back in, they will make an announcement. "The slots will close in five minutes. Cash out now."

At the card games, they will announce "last three hands."

At the blackjack table they will announce "last shooter." When the shooter sevens out, the game is over. If the shooter does not seven out, eventually they will announce "last decision." This means that when the shooter makes the point, or when he sevens out, the game is over.

If the shooter does not seven out or make his point, eventually they will announce "last three rolls." "Last two rolls." "Last roll." Here is a hint...Whenever it gets down to "last roll," and it does not happen often, bet the table max on the come. If the last roll is a seven or eleven (8 chances), you win. If the last roll is a craps (4 chances) you lose. Any other roll, you get the come bet back. Odds are two to one in your favor. You will never get better odds than that in a casino.

If the casino was smart, they would not allow a come be on the last roll, but I have never seen it questioned.

Greetings all.

I have enjoyed reading the thread. Lots of info. Now I have to go back and find the posts I had questions about. I got hooked on the game my first visit to Vegas in 2003. Lost my shorts, but vowed I would learn for my return. Now I find I play mostly for the entertainment. 2 to 3 hours and still have money.

YO...I have played the dark side. Albeit, uncomfortably! However, after reading your posts, I can't wait for someone to "Blame" me for bad rolls, and lost funds.

My question for now...

I am going to Alaska on Celebrity Solstice May 17. I was wondering when the casino is open while in Alaska. Does it matter about being 3 or 12 miles from shore? I believe it would be rather difficult in Alaska.

Second, how are the tables, dealers, etc. on Solstice?

Thanks, Erik

I have cruised Alaska twice (although never on Celebrity) and the casino opens after leaving port. I have always wondered how that worked legally but there must be some provision to allow it. However they did close it earlier than normal at the end of the cruise when it stopped in Wittier but I was not sure if that was because we were in Alaskan waters or if they just needed to close up and settle all the accounts.

In about a week or so I'm heading to the NCL EPIC. Looking forward to this reportedly "casino" friendly line of ships.

Any comments on the craps? Single odds, double odds? Any value to getting the Casino Players card?

Craps on NCL has 3-4-5 time odds. I always bet maximum odds.

Definitely get a players card, and ask to be rated every time you play, especially if you play a minimum of $25 a bet.

The next time you want to sail NCL, call Casinos at Sea and ask if you have earned a discount, or even an (almost) free cruise. You always have to pay fees and port taxes. If you book the next cruise through them, when you get to your cabin you will already have a players card and a free drink card for everyone on your booking.

Just back from the EPIC. Did good enough to cover all our expenses and my DW's losses at Let it Ride. No dark siders seen all week. It was a lot of fun and there were some long rolls from a couple of people.:D

Very few things as exciting as a hot crap table. We're off on the new NCL ship, the Breakaway next month. Only cruise line I play craps on. Glad you had a great time.

My DW befriended a retired professor at Let it Ride. He was playing $50 and $75 a spot ($200-$300 per hand) every night for hours. He said, "Being a statistics professor you'd think I would know better than to play in the casino".:)

What I liked about the EPIC was that during hot sequences, they almost never disrupted the flow by bringing in chips or changing dealers. If they did, the game kept going around them, no delay. Everytime I colored up they always thanked me for the game. Never happened on any other ship.

I was on a cruise on NCL and I was in the casino which isn't hard to believe. I was playing blackjack and saw the Captain making his rounds heading our way. He stopped at our table and I asked him to join us. I liked his answer. He said "The only game I play is Bridge".

I'm very interested in using this "LAST ROLL" COME BET strategy.

I know your post was about your 6 hour casino cruise. I'm sailing on the NCL Epic May 5th from Barcelona. How many hours before reaching port does NCL usually make a similar "Last shooter" announcement?

I love your screen name.

I don't stay up until the casino closes, but it probably closes around 3:00 am, plenty of time before they get to port.

Yes, and its unique to the casino cruises as the Vacation cruises would wait until the hand of craps is determined before they closed the table. I have never heard nor seen one close up in the middle of a throw. So you won't be able to use the come bet strategy since they are never going to announce "last throw"

Whereas the casino boat cruises work on a time table and the ship won't sit waiting for the craps game to end. They have to call the casino closed at a given time.

Was surprised that Celebrity Summit offered 3-4-5 odds on craps. Table was $5 minimum the whole cruise too.

Really? Wow, i would be very happy if my Celebrity Silhouette cruise had a 345 table. I thought they took after RCCL and had single odds.. which would make me think twice about playing.

Hi guys ,what a great thread , I am from Dublin Ireland and we dont have craps in our casinos. I am a poker player myself but after my last couple of cruises on RCI that poker pro game just sucks.

You cant beat the feel of cards and chips with a bit of banter at the table.

I refuse to play that mechine and from reading this thread craps sounds good so i have checked out the lessons on you tube and form reading this thread It will be my game of choice when i travel in NCL Jade in July.

The main reason is the social aspect of this game seems to be my kind of game.

I am by no means a high roller so what do you guys think of my basic game of playing the min on the pass line with the odds behind.

I was thinking of placeing the 6 & 8 and increasing to the other numbers if i win bets.

my big question is when do you take money out?

If the shooter rolls and hits my numbers do you let it ride or do you pull the win to the rail to build your bank roll and just leave the original bets down?

Im a compleat newbe so im not sure if i have all the terms correct .

Sounds like you have the correct terms. You can only "pull your money back" on the odds portion of your pass/don't pass bet and on your place bets. Once made, the pass line bet stays until the bet is resolved (either the player makes the point or they 7 out) On your 6/8 place bets you can take those down anytime you want. Most dealers will give you your winnings only and leave the bet in place the first win and then most will ask you "Same bet?" meaning do you want to leave the orginal bet in place or add to it? You have the option there of adding the winnings to the original bet (with some change) and hoping for a repeat or leaving the bet as is or taking it down. What you do is completely up to you. Depending on how hot the table is (or cold) I will press my bet with the winnings. Maybe the "safest" play is to let the bet win once and take it down completely (but you will cry a bit if the number is rolled again) But in the long run you are making money since the number of times the repeats happen is offset by the number of times they are only rolled once before the 7 out occurs (in which case you are only making a dollar or 2 because you are losing the original bet with the 7 out. On a typical table, people tend to leave their place bets out until the 7 out. A lot of superstitious people will call all of their bets "off" when the dice roll off the table (because they think the next roll will be a 7)

So there really are no "rules" on when you take your bets down. Its all personal preference. Just don't be one of those people that is constantly turning their bets on and off for whatever reason... It slows the game down as the dealers are trying to mark the bets on or off..

Me personally? I take the first win of a place bet so that I at least have my money back. Then on the next roll of the same number I start increasing the bet with some portion or all my winnings. So that I can make double or more using "house money" if the number hits again. This means the number has to hit 3 times for that to happen. Most of the time that doesn't happen, but then sometimes they hit 6 or 7 times. I have been on tables where I started with a $12 6 and 8 place bet and "pressed them on wins while taking some payouts" and worked the bets up to $120 before the 7 out.. that is why the game is so fun.. there are millions of ways to play it and its always different.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO IrishMac: Your game sounds decent. What I do is take off my winnings from Place bets for the first four times. That way you have some winning money. Then I would double my bet and take three wins off the table. Then increase my bets again on the next hit. If two points are made then I would increase my Pass Line/Don't Pass bets. Of course, increase odds too.

We got back from a 4 day cruise on the Carnival Fascination. Had a great time on the Craps table with a 18-20min roll going. I made alot of folks some money just taking my time and not letting the dealers rush my throws. Of course, I don't bet on myself as I seem to Seven out when I get to adding bets.

I was told that long runs throwing was not common on cruise ships.

Is this true?
