Craps Players Step Inside!

I have been on a couple of cruises where at least one night there was a hot shooter and everyone had their rails full of chips. It seems to be the same lucky person night after night.

My observation is that the heavy bettors who toss down say $1,500 to start, play all the bad bets, the horn, and so on are also unlucky bad shooters when its their turn. Then I've seen what appears to be newbies, playing $5 pass line and maybe odds, have some long throws because they are just lucky.

Some people are just lucky.

Maybe the "professional" craps players just won't play at a single odds table.

What are the usual minimums on RCL? I am headed on the Oasis next month and am interested. The single odds don't make me happy and as a result I have been practicing my blackjack. I am a dice junkie though and am sure I will find myself rolling the dice some.

Thanks

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO ItsOnlyMoney1126: You should play craps on the Oasis even though it is only single odds. If you get on a good roll it won't matter what the odds are. Remember, you could make Place Bets too. Those don't require any odds portion and remain the same regardless of what the odds are.

Being a poor working stiff with a limited bankroll, on the EPIC which I recall had 3X odds, I decided to play 1X on the PASS LINE and place the 6 & 8 to spread my investment and increase my opportunity to win. Seemed to work for me.

Trust me when I play I don't just play the pass line with odds. Depending on what the dice are doing I will place the 6 & 8 up to across the board. I was hooked instantly the first time I stood at a table. The crappy odds are just a downer.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO cruzincurt:Believe it or not, I too am a working stiff. Since none of us has an unlimited amount of money we all have limits on our bankroll. According to a dice expert 1X odds give you as a player the best returns. When you start moving up to 10X and 20X odds the player doesn't get a good return on it. I have a book where it is explained in Mathimatical terms. Very dull reading.

I just finished a cruise on Carnival Legend through the Mediterranean. The craps table was empty practically the entire 12 day cruise. Maybe only a handful of players on the entire ship. The dealers told me that the European cruises typically have very little action for dice. Carnival stiffs you if you buy the 4 and 10...they charge you a vig twice...when you place the bet and also when you win. That really sucks because every Las Vegas casino I've been to doesn't do that...pretty chicken **** if you ask me. But who cares...I banged them out for $4,500 when my wife had a hot roll.

This is just my limited observation from playing on cruise ships a couple of times a year. I used to play PASS line and 2 COME bets with odds. But on the typically cold cruise tables, I switched to PASS and place the 6 & 8 with better overall results. I try to set the dice with some limited success, but most casual cruise players don't seem to be able to put together runs of any length, at least not long enough to make my COME bets pay. But if a hot shooter comes up who has done well the nights before, I switch back.

Player....1X odds best return???? You are paid even money on the front line bet and the TRUE ODDS (No house advantage) on your odds bet...take as much odds as you can afford......THE HOUSE HAS NO ADVANTAGE ON YOUR ODDS BET.

I agree wholeheartedly. About 15 years ago I was at a table in one of the big A/C casinos where the limit was 5X odds. Was playing pass + 2 come bets for $10, with $50 odds on each one. At one point (don't remember the exact details) I indicated to the dealer that the $10 "didn't really count" and was only there to let me get the fifty down. He broke out into a wide smile and nodded!

Six weeks to my next cruise... been a long stretch since the last one. Palms are etting itchy!

Shalom, Andy

So I want to play around $20 on a $5 table. What is better PASS with 3X odds or PASS 1X with place the 6 & 8?

You're gonna have to start with a bankroll larger than $20. If you play the minimum $5 on the pass and $5 odds, you'll need $12 more to place the 6 & 8.

If all you have is $20 (and you're not the shooter) I personally would place the outside numbers 4, 5 ,9, 10.

I start each session with several hundred as my "bankroll" but only want to have so much riding to begin. As I win more, I play more numbers or press the bets. So I start out with $22 on the table and see where we go from there.

Neither! If you have $5 or $15 odds on a point of 5 or 9, you'll be shortchanged: as an old timer who was giving lessons to a youngster said, "there ain't no fifty cents at the crap table!" Of course, for those points you could change your odds bet to $6 or $14 if you're doing 3X.

Of course if the number is 5 or 9 I'll put the odds in correct multiples to get full pay. $20 spread was a nominal amount to be adjusted accordingly. I'm sticking my neck out here to benefit lots of minimum $ bettors lurking here who are afraid to join the game if they don't have green chips to play. You can have fun for $10 or $11 just playing the PASS line at a $5 table.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO LSTEFFA: There is a mathimatical explaination for this which at the moment I don't have the time to get into. I will have to do this at a later time.

My sister and I will be on the Legend out of Barcelona in June. Three cruises ago, I introduced her to the craps table... her virgin run put us each up $700 -- and we bet pass line, 6 & 8, and a two-way hard 10. And always a YO on the come-out roll.

You'll know where at the table if you hear: Yo-baby-yo-baby-YOOOOOO! or

Hard Ten -- make it Big and Hard! Gooooooo Viagara!

We once started with an empty table -- the dealers were practicing paying out their bets. Our Yo-Baby dance attracted some attention, and within a half hour people were squeezed into every spot around the table. Yeah, the pit supervisor kept our glasses full -- because everyone was having a great time.

We were known around the ship as the Yo Sisters.

True. That's why you don't get rated for those bets. No advantage for the house. Smarter bet than any other on the table. Either for or against the dice.

I have a question for anyone here who has worked craps tables. On my upcoming cruise, I expect the table to be lightly patronized - often I am the only player. So, they only open one half of the table. I am strictly right-handed and prefer the RS1 ir 2 position. If they open the left half, is it a bad breach of etiquette to ask them to change to the right half, or should I just play on the open side?

Andy,

I experienced the same thing I asked and they said no I asked Why? they said they already counted the house ships on that side so that where they'll start the game from, sounded crazy to me how long and how much effort does it take to count the other side!!

It doesn't make any sense, when they do open the other side, another dealer just shows up and they move some chip stacks over to him. Perhaps if the table is empty, tell them you'll be back when the other side is open. Sounds to me they are just being lazy.
