My son has booked an economy room 1A on the Dream but it is behind the elevator back wall. Has anyone stayed in a room like this and do you hear the elevator all night long?

What is the room # ???

I've sailed in plenty of 1A's, and have never had any problems with noise. Except the 1A's with the portholes. You hear the thrusters in the morning while docking, but that's about it.

He won't hear the elevator at all. If he is listening for it, he 'might' hear the 'ping' of the elevator announcing its arrival...or people talking as they get off. But the elevators are very quiet. EM

Does anyone really stay in these rooms, or do they get upgraded to something better at the last minute? If the ship is not full, he will probably get upgraded by the upgrade fairy.

Thanks for the input. The room is 9359 on the Dream. He isn't concerned about regular elevator noises. We have cruised before. He is just wondering if having the room backed up to the elevator wall is going to be a pain. It is on a good floor so he took it rahter than the Riviera or Main decks. Have you stayed in a 1A that is directly behind the elevator?

?? Of course people really stay in these cabins, especially if you picked one out. I would rather have many 1A cabins than to be upgraded to a inside. Im mid ship deck 6 next Sept in one and have the old special cabin with two windows the other week, they better not change my cabin and give it to someone else.

I think you are thinking of guarantees. They used to upgrade people more often than they do now that there is a upsell dept. If the OPs son knows where his cabin is, more than likely he isnt still or never was a guarantee.

a cabin number will help- im sure there are good ones and some not so good ones.

example-- the 1a on the upper deck is above the bar from the casino.

I know the conquest class ships there is a band that sets up across the hall from the Casino bar that does not start playing until after 9PM and the noise above that is horrible,.

there are 1A's on the main deck located next to white areas. is it laundry room? the room service area? steward areas with ice etc??

It is cabin 9359, chosen because it is not on the main or riviera decks

Iv got some similar cabins booked on Conquest too, and as I mentioned above, I have not heard of problems. One guy said he could hear the dinging (out of all the reviews I have read about 1A cabins, and I read them all and know the category pretty well), but the doors open to the opposite direction as the cabin your son has, and there will be sound proofing in between the cabin and the two elevators.

There is also a chance a drunk could get off the elevators and you could hear him in the hall, but that is always a chance, the closer to the elevators the more chance of hearing a drunk get off. Only heard one once.

Is there a problem with the Main and Riviera decks? I'm generally on the Main deck in one of the large aft 1As with the windows.

The dinging noise/occasional drunk isnt a problem at all (lol). He just wondered if the soundproofing would be adequate or if he would hear the elevator everytime it hit the floor. As for the Riviera or Main decks...theres no problem with them but since this cabin was closer to the pool deck and higher up on the ship he thought it would be a better choice. Just a personal decision.

We are thinking of trying out 8357 on Conquest (similar position, one deck below Lido, same as your son's cabin on Dream), just for convenience. My sister has mobility problems so for her it would be worth it. We have already found out there is one large bed in that cabin, that the twins probably cannot be separated, but prepared to deal with that. Anything but upper and lower and Im good.

btw we could still get a port hole 1A on Main deck too, hard decision, but Im thinking we might try for the higher deck cabin and try it out. We choose 6393 for the same reason that we will be in this Sept, and could have gotten a port hole for that cruise as well.

We are on deck 11 ourselves in a balcony so we told him if its noisy he can always sleep on the balcony LOL... He loves to cruise so he'll deal with whatever. I just thought I would ask around.

these are now re-classified as 6Bs

Guess carnival does read message boards and sees how these cabins are highly sought after
