Mrs.Toaster Posted July 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2009 Apologies in advance if this has been asked many times! Can someone please explain how transfers from the cruise line work? We are cruising on Celebrity, if that helps. We used miles to book our air tickets, and we booked the cruise online. We will be arriving in Vancouver and cruising to Alaska. Should we book a transfer with the cruise line, or is taking a taxi a reasonable idea? Any advice is appreciated!
Rare Essiesmom Posted July 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2009 I can't answer for Celebrity, but some cruise lines wil not allow you to book the transfer (usually sold under the excursions) if you didn't book air through them. Your best source would be the Ports of Call board, ask about transfers in vancouver. Also the roll call for your cruise, and asking on the Celebrity board. paul929207 Posted July 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2009 If you book a transfer thru the cruise line, they will need you arrival information. Usually, transfers are only available on the day of the crusie unless you book a hotel thru the cruise line. There will be a rep near baggage claim, if you are flying domestic or as you exit customs and immigration, if it is an international flight. They will take your baggage and take you to the ship, usually by bus. Taxis are a flat charge for the taxi, while transfers there is a charge for each person. Rare silentbob007 Posted July 12, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2009 Generally taxis or other private transportation will be similar in price or cheaper than cruiseship transfers, but it really does depend on the port. Definitely take a look at the departures board.
Lessa11 Posted July 12, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2009 Usually transfers are more expensive than a taxi unless you are traveling alone.
cb at sea Posted July 12, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2009 Taxis are dependant on how far the airport is from the port! Sometimes, a shuttle or car service IS the cheaper way. You just have to know how far apart those places are!Go to the departure boards and find out more info!!!
