Walking around Monte Carlo

We're doing a cruise on Century in Oct calling at Cannes and was thinking of doing a Monte Carlo tour. As I have breathing troubles we were wondering how strenuous the walk up to the Casino and Palace is and would we be wasting our money booking the trip if we can't make the walk from the bus parking up to the Casino etc.

It is hard to say not knowing your limitations here, but Monte Carlo is quite hilly and steep in places. While the gardens at the Casino are lovely There are others as nice in Nice and elsewhere. I would look for a more ride and look tour myself.

If you go into Monaco/Monte Carlo on the tour bus, the bus parks in the parking area which is under the cliff which has the palace on top. There is an elevator that will take you up to the palace area and once up there, everything is more or less on the flat.

Thanks for the replies.

As we would like to visit Monte Carlo I think we will chance it and if the tour guide is walking to fast for us we will break away from the tour and arrange to meet it up with it later. But if, as Andym says, everything is more or less flat above the bus park I think we will be fine.

Is it a long walk from there to the casino?

Yes, the Palace and Cathedral are maybe five minutes walk apart from each other, but the Casino is on the other side of town.

Our guide told us that the walk from the Monaco side to Monte Carlo is about thirty minutes if you walk fairly quickly. There is a little tourist train (it looks like the choo choo trains at amusement parks:)) That you can ride from one side to the other. I am not sure of the cost, but it is not expensive.

Monaco sounds very easy by public transportation, but how do we get from the cruise ship port to the nearest bus stop? I read about elevators, and difficulty in finding these elevators, so could someone please offer directions to elevators and bus stop?

Thanks so much! This board is great.

We did a ship tour from Villefranche that included Nice, Eze, Monte Carlo and Monaco.

At the stop for the "rock" they parked in an area that included an escalator and elevator to the top. No worries. As far as "breaking away" everyone did :) as the tour was "free time" in each place.

Then to Monte Carlo where again the bus parked close..... again an elevator. There were some steps up top but not many. Again everyone had free time to explore on their own and meet back at a point at a certain time.

This worked great for us as we don't like the "conga line" type of tour following a guide around.
