Silly Pay Per View Question - Aug 26th

Recommended Posts

OK.. This is more a curiosity, than a deal breaker. As most of the world knows, there's a fight Aug 26th :o:o. I get on the Empress to Cuba that morning.

So what are the odds I will get to SEE the fight, or will I pull into Key West and have to see it all over the news there?

I know no one can GUARANTEE, but historically, I bet this group has cruised over SuperBowls and other events...

What say you?

I doubt you can get the fight on a pay per view. The super bowl Is televised in the theatre, casino and certain bars on certain ships. I saw the last SB in the theatre on the Navigator with a spread of hot dogs, hamburger, etc.

If it's a pay per view thing, then slim chances of seeing it on-board. If it were on network tv, like the super bowl, baseball/hockey/basketball playoff game, then you'd probably see if on board.

You might be able to watch it on a mobile device if you buy the internet package. My dh watched a "very important rivalry" college football game on his phone when we were on-board using the internet. This was on Anthem.

When there is a fight like this, the fight's promoter, not the pay-per-view provider sets the rates for the event. Places that have multiple TV outlets (like the thousands of TV's on the ship) must pay for each and every satellite or cable box, so this would run into tens of thousands of dollars for the ship to show the fight.

Well that's a shame. I can certainly understand not having it on every tv. And maybe not on the big pool tv (violence and all). I do hope no one spoils it for me.

Or as we used to say in college:

Your chances are slim and none, and slim just walked out the door. ;)

As Billoh said, the pacquio-mayweather fight was on Freedom on 2015. I think the fight may have been shown in deference to the large number of Filipino crew on board. Our waiter said it was like the Super Bowl or World Cup to them.
