  1. We did a ship excursion to a floating pontoon in the middle of Stinger Season - they definitely provide Stinger Suits. We also did another deep water snorkeling excursion off an inflatable boat and stinger suits were provided by the operator there too. No need to limit yourself to the underwater submarine, (unless you can’t swim). Nothing wrong with submarine but it would be a shame to travel all this way & spend the big $$$ and not snorkel the GBR.
  2. 🥶 The temperature here reached 37-40C in the mid afternoon depending on which part of the Sydney you were in). We made a smart move doing the bushwalk early that’s for sure. Then we had to wait til 10.30pm for the Southerly Buster to come roaring through to bring the temps down &it brought down trees with it too, in some parts of Sydney.
  3. Good morning, it’s a very warm one in Sydney today. Got up early and met BIL on the Central Coast and did the bushwalk down to Lobster Beach. It was nice to have the shade. Currently it’s 33C ☀️
  4. 33C currently ☀️ in Sydney. Strandbags has gone through a branding change and now is just called Strand. It would be Ovation of the Seas docked at the OPT today.
  5. Yes, it was beautiful on the harbour yesterday. Such a pretty sail for you and your fellow cruisers. So pleased you love the RL. I discovered that ice-cream place on the open night in December . Can’t wait to indulge whilst on board. I will be going from the RL to the Grand Princess. Bit of a difference. Enjoy your time in Sydney today - blue skies and sunshine - slap on the sunscreen though, it’s going to be a warm one.
  6. It’s such a lovely ferry ride. Take your swimmers. There is a lovely harbour beach - Camp Cove …..or if you forget your swimmers, there is a nudist beach close by… You can see it from the South Head Historic loop trail which is a must do. Enjoy your time in Sydney pre-cruise next week. Such a lovely time of year to be here.
  7. Unusual for me to see a cruise ship cruising into Sydney Harbour in the middle of the day. Saw it go past as we were eating fish & chips at Watsons Bay. It docked at OPT at 2pm.
  8. Good morning. Ferry to Watsons Bay and walk today. Afterwards, we sat in the park near the ferry wharf and had fish & chips for lunch. Whilst BIL was holding his battered fish and chatting to me, a seagull swooped in and snatched it….
  9. I looked at the shore excursions on the Virgin app for my upcoming cruise. Way too pricey. Booked independently for a 1/3 of the cost. which port were you in for this tour? Would interest me.
  10. I didn’t see any in the water when snorkelling and snorkelled for a lengthy time. Lots of turtles in the water. You see the snakes on the sand, on the trees etc but if you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you. For the OP, Signal and Amadee Island are two different islands. Glad you enjoyed your visit to Noumea.
  11. Be interested in your thoughts on Noumea. It gets a very mixed response from cruisers. According to smart traveller, shark nets have now been installed at Lemon Bay etc so you should be able to swim there, if so inclined. My favourite thing to do at Noumea is do the full day excursion to Amedee Lighthouse Island. Great day out, if you aren’t fearful of (sea) snakes.
  12. Photos from DH’s bushwalk in Sydney today - Jerusalem Bay Track to Taffy’s Rock Track & return - a challenging 17km walk in very humid conditions. We have had a very humid summer so far, with one day last week being the muggiest day in Sydney on record. Thankfully the rain only set in once they arrived home.
  13. DD’s resort in BC was closed to all outdoor activities yesterday due to the extreme cold temperatures. Seeing the photos & videos of the icebergs & whales from the WC cruise in Antarctica is amazing. Putting Antarctica back in my bucket list…
  14. @lenquixote66 you were complaining recently about movies that are located in one place but actually filmed in a completely different location. Last night, I watched The Proposal - set in Sitka, Alaska but actually filmed in Rockport, Massachusetts. Beautiful scenery nonetheless.
  15. Stunning! Must be amazing for the crew too - some of whom probably haven’t seen snow, let alone ice-bergs.
  16. Hi. I’ve got a port day in Alaska where I will hiring a car. Need to supply details of my car insurance. For those of you that have been in a similar situation. How did you handle this? Was it covered under your travel insurance or did you purchase a separate policy? Thanks
  17. We are cruising Alaska this year with Princess. Only Ruby status level but paid in full. I was able to link the four us (2 separate bookings & booking numbers) to dine together each night via the new app. I googled how to do it and a cc post came up with instructions. It was very easy - once you have their booking number.
  18. I plan to take layers. Btw, DH bought Stan last night. So now I can watch the second season of The Tourist and any other shows you recommend (when I am not madly researching Canada/Alaska)
