  1. I booked the Golden Circle with them before they were sold and they indicated that my 8:00 cruise ship arrival would not be a problem. Now they tell me they can't guarantee my pickup. I guess I'll need to find another tour. I like the smaller group but there aren't a lot of those options.
  2. You'll find two types of trains. The blue ones allow seat selection. There's regular and their version of first class. In either case you can see whether the face forward or two the rear and where they are in relationship to the windows. I just picked two seats that faced forward and were in the middle of a window.
  3. With a bit of research, it's not difficult to book all of the tickets yourself and select the times that work best. It saves quite a bit of money but also allows you to do seat selection on some of the trains. I've got all my tickets booked for about 3 weeks from now so we'll see how it goes. In my case I'm doing Bergen, Voss, Gudvangen, Myrdal, Bergen. The times just seemed to work out better.
  4. Is it on one ticket or two?
  5. We did the rope bridge a few years ago and the line was huge, even in the pouring rain. Not sure I would spend the time waiting if I were to do it over.
  6. That's quite a mess. I wonder who it was that was careless?
  7. Interesting. I tried to look up that itinerary this year but it doesn't exist. The last cruises on either of these ships are scheduled in October.
  8. Here is the article I referred to: https://www.upmatters.com/news/michigan-news/american-queen-voyages-ending-great-lakes-cruises/ I think uktog hit the nail on the head. I'm not sure a southeast US cruise is even legal since the ships are flagged in the Bahamas and would need to include a foreign port.
  9. I read an interesting article (sorry don't remember where) that said that the reason they were selling the ships is that they can only sail the great lakes for part of the year. They weren't able to generate any revenue during the winter months. By the same token they wanted to focus on the rivers and on Alaska which is also just a part year destination.
  10. I just think that the scenery is better on the south side of the river.
  11. I don't remember which stop it was but you had a few minutes where you could get off and walk around. Frankly there is really nothing to do anyway.
  12. More like it's an ideal size and traffic configuration to travel by cart.
  13. That doesn't always work if you're flying from a small airport. If the first flight out is the last flight in and that flight is delayed, you run into crew rest delays.
  14. I have a personal policy of never doing business with a company that doesn't list an address. I don't see one for this outfit.
  15. That much I understood. My question was whether a $9.50 drink was $9.50 or $10.93 as it would be on some other lines?
  16. If you get onboard credit for the current cruise, is it refundable or non-refundable?
  17. Which has me totally confused as looking at the Living Room beverage menu it states "All prices include gratuity" on every page.
  18. I've purchased all my tickets for a DIY Nutshell tour. The .pdf ticket I got with the purchase has a QR code. I also have the Vy app. It shows my bookings but there is no QR code. Do I need to print off paper tickets or is the app sufficient? Thanks
  19. I see lots of posts and comments about included wines at lunch and dinner, but nothing about included beer. Being a beer snob I have to have an IPA and not just some watered down American brew. Are all beers included or just certain ones? If only certain ones are included can I either pay for an upgrade or get one with a Silver Spirts package?
  20. Ah, mine opened up earlier than what was stated. Waste of time though. For a DV cabin the only times available on any day were 8:30 and 9:00.
  21. I got that message too but I still bought the tickets at 90 days. I believe that message means that schedules aren't necessarily locked in until 60 days. Go ahead and try a booking. You might also consider booking a round trip on Norway's Best. Round trip is 680 as opposed to 470 for one way. That way you would be protected.
  22. At least in the past the hotel has been the Hilton in Vancouver Washington. The boat docked just two or three blocks from the hotel. Portland is on the Williamette River, not the Columbia.
  23. I bought my tickets 90 days in advance.
  24. To add a bit more. The busses run more frequently in the mornings. There are fewer of them making the circuit in the afternoons. I sometimes take the bus to tour in the morning and perhaps save one stop to go to in the afternoon and walk back from that. On this itinerary there are a number of the towns with nice riverfront trails that you can either walk or bike after doing the tour loop in the morning. The river days are generally along the most scenic parts of the river. While there are some planned activities, the main attraction is being out on deck watching the scenery. I can do 10,000 steps just roaming the boat from place to place and taking in the sights.
