  1. Of course he should cruise ss. All he has to do is avoid Atlantide on formal nights. He does not need a suit or a tie.
  2. Confirms my experience on Silversea.
  3. Well done my friends were just on the silver wind. On an expedition. Jacket required. He did not bring one so they provided one what is clear is that you can survive indeed thrive on silversea without a tie. Jacket is a must. For us, that’s enough to know to be in compliance. maybe someone at silversea will read this and start drafting lol
  4. We were disappointed in chartreuse on regent. We actually prefer Compass Rose over all the specialties on regent. Imo Jacques on Oceania has the best French food at sea but it’s not enough for us to go back to Oceania
  5. He does not need a tie in most venues. You only need a tie in Atlantide on formal nights. Nowhere else. We go elsewhere those nights. That’s the dress code. The dress code is clear. We are following it!!! we love getting dressed to the nines on Cunard. It is not for everyone. The formal nights have themes. We find it fun
  6. Cunard is really seriously formal on the gala evenings. 95% tuxes and gowns. You would actually feel out of place and seriously underdressed in just a suit (although you do see a few). Mr.Bitob has a tux and so we bring it. They really do not encourage anything less than formal although it can be managed. It's not the size of the tie. Mr.Bitob does not want to wear a tie (or even a dress shirt) if he doesn't have to and he doesn't have to on Silversea. Unlike you we prefer Hot Rocks (and La Terrazza) to Atlantide so no sacrifice. We don't do our own cooking. We are on vacation. We are probably better dressed than 75%+ of the passengers. A tie doesn't make the man. Lipstick on a pig, you know. Nice that Silversea gives us all choices we feel comfortable with.
  7. On our 2 cruises on the Moon we did not eat in Kaiseki or La Dame. We were really happy with all the other options. It wasn't the money -- we have a huge OBC to spend. I find traditional French food not to my liking (but give me bistro food any time) and I did not find the Kaiseki menu that inspiring. We leave tomorrow for our third cruise on the Moon -- maybe we will give one of them a try.
  8. A creative jeweler could make them into a fabulous brooch
  9. They were earned and should be worn
  10. Moon. Reykjavik rt then Reykjavik to Southampton. Cruise is sold out!!
  11. Thanks. I am on a b2b - one leg is 14 days; the other leg is 7 days. Should be interesting. If anyone cares, I will post something about the current status of the dress code. Maybe I can get some clarification of formal optional.
  12. My husband was a military man -- he wears those medals on Cunard. Everyone does.
  13. Change is very difficult for many. Try reading a dress code thread on the Cunard boards. LOL
  14. There is a live thread from the Dawn. Apparently there are few ties on board and men are removing their jackets. Don't shoot the messenger. Might have to do with the new "formal optional" I will know more when I board Moon in a few days
  15. But that is NOT silversea’s business model. You are free to dine in other venues without a tie. Silversea is making that clear
  16. Curious about the new terminology - "formal optional" Does that mean that gents only need a jacket but no tie in Atlantide on formal nights?
  17. and I thought I was an overpacker!
  18. You do not need a tie or dark suit to enjoy the run of the ship on formal nights. I do not know where you get that idea. You only need a tie in Atlantide (no dark suit required). We have been on 2 cruises on Silver Moon and that was the policy and practice. We do not go to our room nor do we suggest anyone do so. We eat in Hot Rocks and La Terrazza on formal nights and then enjoy the ship. We are leaving Tuesday for our third cruise on the Moon and we made our formal night dining reservations in those venues.
  19. Expect nothing and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
  20. Interesting way to try to attract TAs who are not promoting Crystal because of lost funds. Kind of like tipping in a restaurant -- if they give you a free entree do you tip on the actual cost on the bill or the service received for serving 2 entrees which would have resulted in a higher bill. I would think most TAs would expect commission on the actual cost of the cruise
  21. I will repeat You did not need a dark suit, a tux or even a tie to sail on Silversea. They intentionally provide alternative options.
  22. Agree. We also Tucsonans. No Blackstone. We received $100 credit each for the rt.
