  1. There is/was an op shop in Port Chalmers if they were going that way.
  2. When boarding Westerdam in January there was a staff person at a table before the main gangway. We checked our wine (2 x $20) there and received a receipt for the corkage and a sticker is stuck on your bottles. You then carry them on board. A Note. A few days later I was checking my account and found an 18% service charge which, on checking with customer service, found it was applied on the corkage charge. I protested and the charge was reversed.
  3. Opposite to topic. I received notification of 1/2 top end circumnavigation on Westerdam Nov 2024, 23 nights, $4599 inside. Balcony $7599. Not including gratuities or visa cost (Indonesia). Wow.
  4. Those tiny cubicles with a clingy shower curtin was one thing that put me off Princess. I have a bad habit of dropping the little soaps and the confines of the shower meant bumping against a wall or being attacked by the curtain when trying to chase the soap around the floor. Give me the roomy shower over bath on HAL or, better still, the roomy showers on Celebrity with sliding glass doors.
  5. That's a shame. I've done many cruises with HAL and all have been better than my, years ago, once only Princess cruise (which wasn't a bad cruise, just not as good as HAL). HAL also has better itineraries than most IMO.
  6. To assist respondents, the big question is how much time do you have and when?
  7. Does anyone wish for the days when This Day Tonight was on and would possibly have done a rebuttal story? I'm sure they would have plenty of ammunition by just reading this thread.
  8. Our beds on Westerdam last January each had two pillows. One was normal size, the other was much wider. My cabin mate loved the wide pillow because she could easily wrap it around her head and ears to muffle the snoring of the other (ahem) cabin occupant.😉 Have always found HAL beds comfy. Thinking back, I haven't experienced any bed discomfort on any of the six different lines I've cruised with.
  9. I had one of those years ago and swore I'd never eat another - and I haven't. Maybe I should have one to remind myself how bad it was - like I do with ships' coffee. I usually get the floater at Harry's.
  10. That's because they connect by Bluetooth, not GPS. You moved out of Bluetooth range.
  11. Ever tried to use a GPS inside a ship. They don't work. Some of those tags may work if for e.g., they are locked to Iphone then a nearby Iphone may pick up a signal. Having said that, tags are a good idea but not without limitations.
  12. There has been discussion on this topic here recently. Perhaps someone can provide a link?
  13. I take a photo of the waiter's names that are usually on the MDR table. A memory aid.
  14. Maybe they do maybe they don't but if they have the time there's a lot more to Oz than capital cities. If I was in the US and had the time I'd do it. Why do 1000s drive Route 66, or what's left of it?
  15. From OP post #73 "Fortunately, we have lots of time and options."
  16. There's a lot to see on a road trip Cairns/Brisbane if you have the time https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Cairns,+Queensland/Brisbane,+Queensland/@-22.2029518,144.8995901,6z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x697862555ba22413:0x400eef17f207860!2m2!1d145.7709529!2d-16.9203476!1m5!1m1!1s0x6b91579aac93d233:0x402a35af3deaf40!2m2!1d153.0260341!2d-27.4704528!3e0 BTW. Cairns/Brisbane is almost the same distance, by road, as Brisbane/Melbourne 1700klms
  17. Not heard in that context. For me it's usually "bye" or, occasionally "hoo-roo" or "see ya". Maybe it it has not yet reached Belmont South where I am.
