  1. Never cruised out of New York and I'm looking for options to getting to the Brooklyn Cruise terminal that don't include ride share or taxi.  We are staying in lower Manhattan and I've discovered a ferry nearby at Wall Street/Pier 11.  It appears that if we take this ferry and get off at a stop called Red Hook, we will be at the cruise terminal.  Cost is $4.50 pp.  Could it really be this easy?  What am I not understanding or thinking about with this option?  If you've don't this, how did it go?

Just last week we booked a short 7 day on the Meraviglia for next month when we noticed plenty of availability in the YC.

We will also be on Meraviglia in December but embarking in Brooklyn will be a first for us.  After doing some research it seems that the UBER drop off on embarkation day is mass chaos.  So I found a ferry option from Manhattan, where we will be staying a few nights prior.  It appears we can catch the ferry at Wall Street/Pier 11 and take it to a stop called Red Hook which is right next to the cruise terminal.  My long winded lead in to asking... are you familiar with the ferry option and is it more viable than taking UBER in from Manhattan?

If it waa my choice, I would pass on the grand suite and choose a deluxe on deck 18. There seems to be a few still available for the sailing you are considering

Exactly the reason we haven’t booked  grand deluxe suite. Sure there’s a WIC but the trade off is peace and quiet while paying more!  No thank you.

  4. We had a MC sky suite on Edge. Also a corner balcony facing aft. We were on deck 9. There were no downsides to this cabin. The balcony was large and well shaded, which is a plus for us. We watched the MC make it’s decent to deck 5 one afternoon which was cool to see. The aft view through the extra cut out was nice as well. I’m sure for some there will be a question of privacy as nearby balconys may have a view on to yours via the side cut out. If this is worrisome one could always book a room that is not on either of the ends. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a great way to travel!

  5. Congratulations on such a wonderful (and rare) accomplishment!  I can't think of any better way to celebrate than while by taking a cruise.  We will celebrate our 20th in November but this year will be on a different cruise line.  I think the MDR will be all too happy to accommodate.  Also worth noting, and you probably know this already, but you can order a celebration package in your cruise planner as well.

@JamieLogical formatting for your post seems to be off. I've never had to scroll before to read your blog, but this time I have to. Not sure if anyone else is having this issue. Usually the transfer from laptop to CC is great!

Thank you for pointing out the scroll bar!  Just went back to read today's post but it's too wide a scroll (almost like it's landscape) so wasn't too successful.

I get the gist though, so far JL is having a great time!!

  7. So i  just helped 8 of my friends who are new to mSC set up their accounts. You need your booking number and the button “manage cruise”. Try this rather than making a new account. I don’t think you’ll find anyone who will try to convince you that MSC’s IT dept is on point. But don’t confuse crappy IT with a crappy cruise. One is not indicative of the other.

  8. @Best Cat Mom yesterday DH and I were outside most of the day setting up our new Starlink which will hopefully replace our dreadful Viasat service that only works half the time.  How is this relevant?

Well because while trying to locate the most ideal spot for the satellite panel, which has to be facing north...I mentioned to DH that it was about time for Best Cat Mom to begin her voyage across the Atlantic!  He raised his Andy Rooney brows at me and I'm pretty sure he rolled his eyes too.  Though he likes to poke fun at me because I can rattle off so many fellow CC handles... he is the first to acknowledge that the information around here is invaluable!

ANYWAY, finally found your new live thread and began reading it aloud to DH.  I paused briefly to refill my coffee and DH commented that I should hurry up because he wanted me to keep reading!  😁

I'm so happy to be following another of your live threads and  hope you and BCD have a wonderful cruise!

  9. I, state your name, give state name of parent consent to allow to take minor child, state child’s name out of the country on a cruise for a period of 7 days between the dates of _______.

    signed and dated

We used something similar to this and typed it ourselves for the notary. I’m sure there are free templates on line. But we were never asked for a letter at embarkation check in. That was a long time ago. They may be more strict now so I’d definitely have something prepared.

  10. I just did our check in for Seascape...departing in 28 days...woohoo!  When I looked at the ticket packet, the QR codes were already there.  So I'm guessing they will show up in the app as well?  I hate to put my faith in anything IT related when it comes to MSC so I will print them out as well.  New this time was the fact that I couldn't upload my own photo as I have in the past and I couldn't bypass this step either.  So my current photo is of me sipping coffee in my robe...hope they take a new one at the pier.

As for the luggage drop off, my recollection is that they (officers) are particular about where the cars stop...meaning, the officers directing traffic just want you to pull up to the curb where ever there is a break in the line.  We've never been dropped off directly in front of the blue YC tent but it's never a far walk either.

  11. Happy embarkation eve, @JamieLogical!  I have just gotten myself caught up on your cruise planning and wanted to say I really appreciate you sharing your packing list.  I always get such good ideas from others.  I started to imagine that your suitcase must rival that of Mary Poppins...but I'm sure I just waaayyy dated myself. 🤣  Anyhow, I'm definitely investing in some of those patches as my hubby and I also take full advantage of our drinks packages!

Anyway...have fun today!  Embarkation eve is my favorite day second only to embarkation day itself!

I don't know which ship you're booked on but we recently completed our first cruise on the Mariner and it was fantastic.

We booked the Grandeur and are looking forward to it very much.  I generally take negative reviews with a big grain of salt.  Glad to know you had a great experience.
