  1. They basically manage dry dock activities which all cruise ship have to complete. They have already done work with Royal Caribbean Group brands: https://mjm-group.com/portfolio/marine-interiors MJM Marine, an outfitting firm based in Newry, said the increase in business across a range of global clients, including the world's largest cruise companies, will enable it to create more than 100 new jobs. "The announcement will be made today on board the Celebrity Apex which was docked in Belfast. It is part of Celebrity Cruises, a brand in the Royal Caribbean Group and one of MJM Marine's trade partners." "The new roles are predominantly based at our headquarters in Newry and range from operations and project management to commercial and other business support roles," he said. RCG already uses this company. Apex happened to be in Belfast which makes a good backdrop for an annoucement of 100 new jobs. Will some Celebrity ships get work done by this company? Certainly appears that is possible. But no where does it imply that Apex is getting a complete overhaul or is 'removing features'.
  2. It's been a habit around here for as long as I can remember to price compare different lines in an effort to prove a point while omitting important info like cruises booked far in advance, forgetting to mention you are quoting a per person price, comparing cabin type that are in no way similar, comparing random off season itineraries, etc. Or "I'm not giving corporations interest free loans" then claim you are moving to lines that charge 20-25% deposits. Now I'll step aside while 5 people tell me their Seabourn cruise is cheaper than an inside on Celebirty 🤣
  3. Assuming you talked to other people onboard and felt they paid a better price? Rates adjust all the time. You booked an expensive ship, expensive itinerary during an expensive time of year. There is no child rate and suite bookings comes with drinks by default. You were accepting of the price when you booked and assuming you did your research up front, agreed to pay it. As they say...that ship has sailed. Literally.
  4. Totally normal. It’s a link to verify arrival/boarding details or pass along any other pertinent information.
  5. The key element is prevailing rate. You aren’t paying gratuities twice in this scenario because you never paid them on the initial booking. Anything you do to an existing reservation after 10/3 that requires repricing will move to the prevailing rate (i.e. the price and promos applicable on the day you make the change). It’s really pretty straightforward. Best Price Guarantee still applies but you need to factor in the cost of gratuities to see if the reprice is worth it. If your cruise decreased by more than the cost of gratuities you would potentially still benefit.
  6. I'm not sure Princess is all that much different than Celebrity. Choose wisely. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2957180-just-got-an-email-outlining-the-new-offerings/ https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2958333-response-from-princess-to-email-re-changes/#comment-65943401 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2954258-casual-dining-fixed-price-menus-and-a-la-carte-charges/ https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2954341-confused-about-the-new-charges/
  7. The first thing that came to mind for me was it sound very American. Like what you would find at TGI Friday's or Applebees. Not a dig at them, but that's probably inline with what most Carnival cruisers want. The first menu appetizers are: Pasta with lamb (odd for an appetizer - definitely not Italian) Duck rolls (?) Shrimp cocktail a la 1961 (Celebrity is guilty of this too) Mixed green salad Ceasar salad Tomato soup Wild rice soup with chicken Hardly imaginative items here....
  8. All of the big players use this same vendor. https://www.plusgrade.com/partners/ Bottom line is...no one knows and if they do know, they aren't going to tell you. It's not just your gross bid amount. It's also considering the chain reaction of subsequent bids that also generate revenue. The highest bidder isn't necessarily going to initiate a series of moves that brings in the most money. If your initial cabin category is one that is in demand like an SV or potentially AQ, you may have slightly better chances, especially if you're moving from an SV on E Class ships.
  9. You’re incorrect. The original post is a screenshot from a travel agents website. Not a Celebrity announcement. Any change outlined in the above alway shifts to the prevailing rate and promotion. MoveUp awards do not. What I posted is the updated All Included FAQ straight from Celebrity which is in line with how MoveUps have always worked. You keep your existing inclusions.
  10. My suggestion would be between sailaway and dinner if I had to pick embarkation day.
  11. People will chime in dissecting check-in time vs. boarding time. Ignore that. No one follows the check-in time anymore. Just keep in mind that half the ship tries to get on first or early. You can safely assume you will be on board somewhere around noon. The spa on embarkation day is really hectic since they do tours and allow everyone to come in and oooh and ahhh. Not sure I would recommend scheduling any treatments until sailaway time or sometime after.
  12. You can summarize this thread easily. 17 pages mentioning nearly every mainstream cruise line out there ranging from $350/night to $3,500+/night. Honestly not a whole lot to be gained.
  13. If only it were that simple. RCI frequently has kids sail free or reduced 3/4 person rates that make it cheaper for families than Celebrity since they rarely offer a discount targeted at the 3/4 passenger. A lot of people choose RCI because they want the circus at sea. Then they turn around and buy Royal's expensive drink package and spend a fortune on activities and upgrades. A lot of people think Celebrity is too stuffy and boring so it's not even on their radar. There is more to the equation than just the bottom line price.
  14. There would have been a price increase based on the previously posted FAQ doc. . The FAQ previously said $20 pp/pd gratuity included when it reality it apparently was meant to say $20 pp/pd plus gratuity. This is of course based on the price before applicable discounts.
  15. You cannot do this on Celebrity. You would have to find a cruise line that embarks in Aruba (or potentially Curacao if you could get there) then disembark in Florida. There is one single Silversea cruise that allows embarking in Curacao and ends in Fort Lauderdale in Nov 2024.
  16. The FAQ was updated in the last few days. Previously it showed the base cost to upgrade from Basic to Premium drinks was $20 which included the gratuity. Now the price is shown at $24 including the gratuity. Small difference but still equates to $56 for two over the course of a seven night cruise.
  17. Any suite on Royal at 3k must be on a short 3/4 night cruise. Maybe Vision class on a 7 nighter? I definitely would not say their suite product is way cheaper by any means, especially once you get past Junior Suites that offer nothing other than a little more space. On newer Royal ships their JS product is priced nearly even with Celebrity Sky Suites. Then you get to pay $60-100 pp/pd extra for drinks if you want a package and another $20 pp/pd for WiFi.
  18. It works both ways. Two different markets. When the GB site has a better offer than the US site like the Fly Cruise deals, more OBC, etc. people booked in the US can’t take advantage of it either.
  19. The explanation may not have been great but the key point for Exciting Deals is the price applies only to new bookings. Gotta read the fine print. *Offer applies to new individual bookings and to staterooms in non-contracted group bookings, which must be named and deposited during the Offer Period. Offer is capacity controlled, availability varies by sailing, and eligible staterooms may sell out.
  20. That would be higher than the typical price lately. I haven’t seen the regular price over $10 in a while. The new pricing faq is quoting a base pre-discount basic to premium upgrade price at $9.99 for one device. Just book it 🤷‍♂️
  21. I would add 1. Their shoreside customer service is horrendous. Hope you don’t have any issues. 2. Leaving YC can be an experience all in itself. 3. If you don’t enjoy the 80’s Vegas strip club aesthetic it may not be for you. It’s hard to believe some of their ships are only a few years old.
  22. The shift on vaping was definitely a result of feedback. So was the cookie drama. I think they were flabbergasted by the outrage over a $2 optional cookie. No one screams about the price of gelato, the drinks not covered by a package, the charge for deli sandwiches from Le Grand Bistro (which are delicious) but something about a $2 cookie really caused distress for some people. Structural pricing changes are different since those are undoubtedly coming from higher up the ladder and carry significantly more weight (like dollars in the tens of million). Sheer passenger volume. In 2002 there were approximately 8.6 million cruise passengers globally. In 2019 that was 29.7 million. The projection for 2027 is 39.5 million. And to put it bluntly the amount of able to cruise loyalists that were cruising Celebrity 25-30 years ago are no longer around. That base is shrinking. There has definitely been some attrition as people move to other lines but that is to be expected.
  23. Newbies. Virtually nothing has changed in the TA space. Not a single thing other than some fanfare and go team go conversations. They also make $$ off your views some drama so there is that.
  24. Source? There is no TA push occurring. Incentives, commission, bonuses, etc. are cyclical and virtually the same they have been for years. If anything there is a risk out there that would move in the opposite direction.
