Overpaid and RCCL says tough luck, you paid too soon.
Tree_skier replied to bentl1's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I'm not sure if you some of you haven't noticed but the OP has given up on the this thread and posting on CC. Nothing since last Saturday, the day of the original post. They didn't get the response they wanted so they are gone.- 209 replies

I've done Alaska three times. Serenade twice and once on Ovation. The first time on Serenade we got way up into Endicott arm and got amazing views of the Glacier and watched calve. The second time was Serenade again. We got up Endicott arm but were fogged in so badly we couldn't see a thing. The third time, on Ovation, we didn't even make the turn to Endicott arm and just headed strait into Juneau. I can't remember the reason why they said this was necessary. But every time in Juneau we have been able to see Glaciers. Ive been to Mendenhall Glacier twice and took a seaplane flight overflew them the other time. No matter what you'll have an opportunity to see glaciers.

Diamond drink question
Tree_skier replied to blondie from arizona's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I usually find "my guy" on every cruise. Day 1 and 2 I go to the venues I will likely frequent though out ht cruise and experiment. It doesn't take long to find the guy you want making your drinks. I have run into a few along the way that I wouldn't let pour me a soda let alone mix my favorite drinks. I can't imagine choosing that one to be my go to guy. They don't need me to tell them how to bartend, if they don't know how to do it right I just move along. There are lots of bars and bartenders to go to... -
Pub singer on Harmony- no more?
Tree_skier replied to FirstCruise2331's topic in Royal Caribbean International
There is guitar entertainment in the pub this week and next week. Just because it is not listed in the app yet does not mean that it won't be available. The entertainment list will continue to change with things added right up until you board the ship. I'd expect a pub entertainer on your cruise. I wouldn't worry to much about it yet. -
Changing cabins within our group.
Tree_skier replied to Tree_skier's topic in Royal Caribbean International
That was what I thought but wanted to check... We arranged the cabin assignments so that DW and DD would have the double keys should that be the only option. They are far less likely to lose the keys than myself or my son in law. LOL. -
We are doing a family cruise that includes myself and my wife along with our daughter, her husband and their three teenage kids. We have three cabins booked. OV Balcony's and an Inside across the hall. We have booked my wife and I in separate cabins to maximize our Diamond balcony discount. I know that Royal and the cabin steward doesn't care who sleeps where and will give us multiple keys for multiple rooms. However, if we go to GS upon boarding, instead of getting multiple keys can they just move my wife out of the cabin she is listed in to my cabin and move my cabin mate to the cabin she is vacating. This way no one has multiple keys and onboard spending is divided into the right family groups.

Serenade of the Seas-August
Tree_skier replied to cruisingluv14's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We were on Serenade in August of 2021. I think we were the 5 or 6th sailing after the restart. We loved it. It is obviously a different experience than the larger ships but it was a very good experience. It would all depend on the itinerary. Ours was Alaska. Our ports of call were fantastic and we loved every minute of the cruise. If it were uninteresting ports of call where I would be more in inclined to stay on the ship like say Nassau, Grand Cayman or Freeport I'd probably give it a pass. -
Awful food on Harmony of the Seas
Tree_skier replied to Sigyn's topic in Royal Caribbean International
It is interesting that individual takes can be so different. We've cruised Royal, NCL and MSC and in the MDR Royal was far and away the best of the bunch. Both in terms of food and service. I'd say the NCL and Royal were a tie on specialty restaurants. Everything about MSC was disappointing. -
Purchase water package or bring our own?
Tree_skier replied to prmami's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We do both. My wife likes and needs for health reasons to drink alkaline water. We will bring a six pack of alkaline water on board. Once you are past security I can shove them in a roller bag so I don't have to mess with them while we are waiting for the rooms to open up. We also order a 24 pack for a 7 day cruise or 12 pack if it's a shorter cruise. -

Icon 1BRGS pricing question
Tree_skier replied to vacationlover_mn's topic in Royal Caribbean International
My brilliant TA got me group space for two in an Oceanview balcony for 2, the week after Thanksgiving 2024, right when itineraries were released for $2784. 🙂 The same cabin right now is $5585. -
Yeah it's always a bit of a crap shoot with the exchange rates. I have booked cruises in both currencies. I'm Canadian but live in the US but have money and some income from Canada so depending on how I plan on paying for it I have sometimes booked in CDN$. In all honesty I think I have lost more than I have won playing the FX game. I just book them all in US$ now and eat whatever exchange rate differential I need to when transferring money from Canada. If you have an interest in a US based US dollar acct. that is easy to transfer money back forth at good rates I recommend TD. I have a TD/Canada trust account that I have had for a very long time as well as a US TD account based in the US. It's a bit of process to set up but once it is you can easily xfr money back and forth at the most favorable exchange rates and do it without the typical dollar amount restrictions that forex exchange usually places on xfrs. Having a US$ Visa card can be handy as well for Canadians who travel a lot.

Balcony room on Symphony or JS on Freedom?
Tree_skier replied to SuperPlanner's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Definitely Symphony with a balcony. Besides some extra space there is very little difference between a JS and a balcony perk wise. Symphony has so much more to offer otherwise it would be a slam dunk for us. -
Yeah it does look nuts... Here is again but this time broken out by individual guest. This seems to make more sense but doesn't show what is likely a glitch in with the conversion of the discounts. CDN$ US$ The way the discounts are applied appears to be really strange. In this example it almost appears as if the CDN$ price is intentionally inflated and greater discounts are offered but it is still a rip off based on current exchange rates.

I've flown out of Seattle hundreds of times but only a couple times in the last couple of years. Unless something has changed those15 and 25 minute numbers is fantasy land.
