  1. Would love to meet up one day. They shut the zoo down in 1996. The aquarium is not as popular anymore now for the average person to go to now that they don't have whales and dolphins. It is still popular with schools for field trips though. Cruises departing out of Ballantine was always weird to me. It is an industrial zone and primarily a container port. My first cruise on Serenade back in 07 was out of Ballantyne. Canada place was the place to get on and off cruise ships. Beautiful scenery and amazing hotel right there and walking distance to and from both downtown business district and entertainment district. But I realize that Canada Place can only handle two ships at a time, hence the use of Ballantyne.
  2. How long ago did you leave BC. I think prairies would be hard for me to live in. I need to see mountains every now and again.
  3. Land of the Living Skies examples... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/saskatchewan-called-land-of-the-living-skies-for-a-reason-1.3197847 Yes, both my wife and I were born and spent the majority of our life in BC. Twenty years ago our daughter 18 year old daughter married a guy in WA state just south of the border in Lynden WA. Eight years ago I had the opportunity to begin to covert something that I had volunteered at for twenty years in my vocation. It started part time for a couple of years and with me traveling back and forth between Canada and various locations in the US. After two years, my wife pulled the plug on her teaching career and I began full-time doing what I'm doing basing out of Central CA. Right about that time my SIL, who is an RN, got a very good offer to work in the corrections dept in Central CA. He took it and we coincidently moved to the same area almost simultaneously. The area you stayed in was an area that I actually lived in back in the late 80's. That was a pretty dark period in my life. I wasn't on Davie but I was a few blocks off of Denman street just behind the Sylvia hotel a very short walk to English Bay Beach. That was a lifetime ago and really a very different person. That being said, in spite of making a lot of bad life decisions down there, I always encourage folks to visit. It was a thriving area and the restaurants and the English bay beach are a Vancouver highlight. Also you are really close to Stanley Park which is the crown jewel of Vancouver.
  4. It usually starts on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
  5. In all the time I spent there I never felt an earthquake. Mind you, in my time here in CA I have only felt two earthquakes and neither were enough to scare me.
  6. Yeah that was me as well. Bamboo room was my go to bar on Navigator. Noise really isn't an issue.
  7. We were in a deck 8 Promenade view room over the the Bamboo room on Navigator back in September. I didn't notice any noise from the Bamboo room. You will hear the noise when they have events like the 80's night etc... but unless you were heading to bed early it wasn't a problem. I didn't find it particularly noisy during normal daytime hours.
  8. I think anything beyond 5 days is just a wild guess.
  9. I used to live in the most beautiful area in all the world. We left it all and some questioned why we would make the decisions we did. What is rational to some is irrational to others. I understand people's desire to live by the ocean. My desire is to live in the mountain again and visit the ocean when I can. I'm currently half way in between, 2 hours from each. The next home will be above 4000 ft. minimum.
  10. My last, back in August, was 14 day... I suspect I'll be on the 30 day plan going forward. I'm very careful (boring) now.
  11. They had to have seen them. I'm assuming either a mechanical failure or medical emergency. there is no other explanation.
  12. You can also find it on your invoice from Royal on the third page right underneath itinerary
  13. With Surf and Stream I have used FaceTime to great success on Navigator. I wandered the ship showing it to my granddaughter for over an hour with only a couple minor freezes. I conducted a zoom meeting on my aft-balcony on a seaday aboard Odyssey half way between Nassau and Aruba for an hour without a glitch. Your iPhone messaging will work like it normally would on land. If you turn on wifi calling (do this before hand and test it) you can call and receive calls just like on land without too much trouble. I've never used WhatsApp can't tell you about that.
  14. I have a nice collection of hand sanitizer tubes and bottles sitting on my dresser all with Royal Caribbean logos. I wish they'd bread them with the ship as well they'd make even better souvenirs then.
  15. depending on the ship you are on the differences can be quite significant. For example, on Liberty I accidentally bought the Surf and not Surf and Stream like I usually do. I discovered my error once on board. I tried to make a go of if for a couple days but it was so slow that I couldn't stand it. I went to Voom desk and upgraded and the difference was amazing. Ive heard other people say that surf was sufficient for them. That's why I say it is ship dependent. My question would be what do you mean by chat? If you want to just text back and forth I would be acceptable, I imagine. If you want FaceTime then I'd say you must have Surf and Stream.
  16. I was just rolling through random YouTube videos that the algorithm thought I wanted to see and this one popped up. I didn't realize it was breaking news until after I watched and looked at the upload date.
  17. Right after Thanksgiving the decorations start going up. This is from Dec 1 2019 cruise on Adventure of the Seas. That was the first cruise post Thanksgiving that year.
  18. Saw video of this on my Youtube feed before I even saw the headline... Absolutely unbelievable! So very very sad and tragic.
  19. Beautiful! I spent one week out in PEI back 2012 considering an opportunity that was offered to me. It wasn’t the right move for me so we didn’t take it but I fell in love with the Atlantic coast and have great visions of one day returning.
  20. Thanks for the history info. I've been a big follower over the years of Super Rugby and have observed some very impressive ANZAC day pre-game ceremonies. Super Rugby season traditionally rolls over ANZAC day. I just assumed that that was it for you guys and Remembrance Day was a Canada/UK thing. I was surprised and impressed by the picture you posted.
  21. Uh... How does that work? Does that mean she could use your vouchers but you couldn't use hers. I'd be trying to reverse asap... 🙂
