  1. Sprdave, (are you or have been a sapper?), I don’t know about point 2, but the restrictions around travelling seen to be loosening. Today it’s essential travel, but non essential can’t be very far behind. I hope.

I would always travel with my own insurance. I’m reasonably sure that RC would cover you for COVID, but if you broke your ankle on the beach....

This is just my opinion- we have a cruise booked for late January.

    It is 70°F and sunny.

We have been to church this morning and called at Wynyard gardens for lunch.

I hope everyone has a nice day.

    Graham.

I’m a little shocked by a bottle in front of Pauline. It needs to be elegantly poured into a glass.
Unless that’s malt vinegar. In that case, she doesn’t have to drink it.

I am BEGGING all of you who have cruised before, hop over to the Ports of Call section and give advice.

Personally, I would love more recommendations on what to do with 13 travelers, ages 5 - 84, when we are at the Falmouth port.  (I have been to the Cozumel and Grand Cayman ports that are also on our itinerary.). There are so many threads that just need to be updated/resurrected.  Really, for all of the ports.

Thank you in advance for helping all of the CC travel-planners.

Are you cruising from Galveston? We have the same ports, and we have been to none of them!

My husband particularly wants to visit a coffee plantation. I’m hoping for recommendations.

This puts all those countdown to your next cruise threads into perspective.

I just got my second vax yesterday and in 13 days I'll be fully vaccinated. This happens to be right before Canada Day. We have a new granddaughter in Ottawa, who was born 3 weeks ago. Guess were Mrs. Dawg and I will be spending Canada Day?  My brother, who lives out west has a new granddaughter also, born six months ago. But she lives in Toronto. Guess where he and his wife will be 'vacationing'  first when they can? My other brother has a new grandson in England. I don't think we'll be seeing him and my SIL again until 2022, and they just live down the street!

As far as cruising is concerned, it's way down the list of priorities after the countdown to see family again!

My daughter is in Kemptville- we can’t wait to see her again!

You are so right, family is the most important thing.

Im not planning anything this year , but  i may take advantage of the double points and book a suite

before the end of june for a sept 2022 cruise and get a double double . 🙂🙂

Is that still working? We booked a B2B from Galveston in late January. I thought we had lost the double cruise points when our Transatlantic was cancelled. 🤞

Pauline had her second Astrazeneca vaccine jab this morning then we went for lunch at a nearby restaurant.

My husband just got his this morning- we had AZ for the first dose, and Pfizer for the second.  I should be getting my second dose within a week or two.

On a completely different topic- my daughter’s German Shepherd has delivered 5 puppies so far! The ultrasound showed 8 or 9 puppies, so she’s not done yet.

My daughter is also pregnant, but she’s only having one!

That thread lasted a lot longer than I thought.  I’m guessing it was the weekend.

I was horrified by the level of vitriol that some threads take. I’m pretty much only posting here.

On a more positive note, my younger son came for a 10 day visit. He lives in downtown Toronto, and is an essential worker, so he enjoyed being babied and not having to do much (my choice!). We hadn’t seen him for almost a year.

This piece replaced the tired old iron.  It would then be my new favorite.  🙂

The Iron Is Out, A Cat Is In As 'Monopoly' Changes Game Pieces : The Two-Way : NPR

I might have to get a new Monopoly game for that piece! We are still using mom and dad’s game that I remember from the age of 8 or so.

We spent the weekend (and last weekend) taking out turf, de-interlocking (anyone want bricks?), taking out plastic sheeting from around the house where it was under several yards of gravel (anyone want several yards of gravel?), and putting in perennials. The neighbours are, I think, a bit relieved that the ugly house is getting some love. Thankfully, after this the landscaping company takes over.

There is a major sea battle about to break out between Miami and The Bahamas. on the left if the Carnival fleet. On the right is the Royal/Celebrity fleet. The highlight dot in the middle is Brilliance of the Seas leading the charge. Celebrity Summit is flanking the Carnival fleet to the North.

I think Royal Caribbean intends to bottle up the Carnival fleet in the Miami harbour.

    Hello Dani

It is a new day. I am hoping that you, your husband, children and grandchildren remain safe today.

I noticed that you have read some books written by Susan Wittig Albert. I read her Darling Dahlia series. The books are about a group of women living in a small Alabama town during the 1930’s. The somehow get involved in intrigue and mysteries that occur in the town. The women are individuals in their own right, but are connected to each other through their memberships in the local garden club.

The latest book in the series is The Darling Dahlias and  the Voodoo Lily. I find reading is a diversion for me. Trying to solve the mysteries before the solution is revealed is a way to exercise my brain power.

           Take care-

            MJ

Thanks for mentioning the Darling Dahlias series. I’ve read a couple of them, but Fantastic Fiction says there are more!

The drawback to ordering books from the library for curb side pickup (which is the only way available), it is that one has to know what one wants to read. Sometimes it doesn’t work that way! The pleasurable finding of a book, sitting on a library shelf is something that I miss.

I wanted to express my horror at Dani’s situation, but others have said it more eloquently than I can.

It’s finally done.  Took longer than expected because of the rocky soil around here.   DH had to resort to pulling out the jackhammer for several of the post holes.  We chose white vinyl fence along the front edge, where the driveway is, for privacy.  Next up is fence around the mechanicals, landscaping & outdoor furniture.  We may end up with bargain basement stuff this year as shopping at the patio furniture stores has taught me that everything is on back order, due to pandemic mfg’ing delays 🤷🏻‍♀️.  Here are a few pictures of the process, from tree removal last June to now.

What did you use for pavers? Is it natural rock?

One of my best memories is being on the Acropolis with my daughter. There was an enormous crowd, but magically, a bench opened up, and were able to sit, let the crowd get filtered out, and focus on the buildings and the ancientness of the site.
