  1. Oh wow…hadn’t realised that’s almost live. Bon voyage, Mic and Rosie.
  2. I saw that close call story on the News last night. Mudgee guardian angel, he must be thinking. Can you post your photo? It would be amazing with the background lightning. Stay safe, everyone.
  3. Love it: Brings forth the nighttime heat That certain texture, that certain beat. (Gang Gajang: Sounds of Then) Some words bring this land to life. I still remember reading that in Australia you can hear the heat. Brilliant. And when I listen to the words of every verse of “We Are One”, I simply yearn for this evocative, stirring piece of music and touching lyrics to be our national anthem.
  4. Our son and DIL sat outside on the balcony and marvelled at the lightning; some bolts striking the water. Not my idea of entertainment😳⚡️
  5. Power just restored 20 mins. ago, (it's 9.00am now) so we were without power all night. Emergency teams have done a fantastic job; there were thousands of homes without power apparently. Our son is at the coast and he said the light show down there was amazing, but they didn't lose power, so Les should also be fine.
  6. My brother and SIL live in Cairns. They are bracing, but they always have the cyclone routine down pat. All possible preventative measures, then hunker down with non-perishable supplies. Spoke with them today. They’re chilled but ready and wary.
  7. Right now, we’ve had no power for over an hour.. Massive storm moved through rapidly from the west, heading towards Les now. Most of Canberra in blackout, although our daughter’s home in Woden Valley unaffected. Romantic candlelit evening. Just finished dinner with a glass of chilled sav blanc when we were enveloped in blackness. Always have candles at the ready, so quite relaxing, really🥰
  8. Christine is a legend of the game. Congratulations, Team Canada👏
  9. Born old, grows younger with the years. Movie starring Brad Pitt.😂
  10. Great photo Les. You’re ageless, like those Cunard tipplers. Benjamin Button has nothing on you.
  11. A major complication you didn't need. Sending wishes for patience (and for the patient) and rapid healing after successful surgery. Linda and Mario
  12. I should add that Friulano is a mixture of Austrian-Getman, Latin and French (so yes, some Romantic).
  13. Germanic. Interesting: a few years ago, out of interest, we underwent DNA testing. Mine, as expected, is Celtic (Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall) with a good measure of Viking. Mario’s is only 7% Italian. The rest: mainly Celtic, with a touch of Viking. The Celts, originally a central Germanic tribe, spread to Britain, and also occupied Friuli for the better part of a millennia. Our children remarked that this is rather creepy😂.
  14. Time for your cab merlot. I’m enjoying that single malt we discussed😂
  15. He’s Friulano, Austrian, yes, till around 1914. Friulano is a distinct language, not a dialect. I had two languages to learn when we married so long ago. Friuli is a beautiful alpine region.
  16. We always love Raymonds; even better with you as a lunch companion, Les. Wonderful company, great conversation, and delicious fare. Thanks, Les.
  17. Perhaps the machine is northern Italian, like my husband.
  18. Latin would certainly permeate the language wall. He often uses Latin phrases around the house, and I’m sure continues on cruise mornings. Unlike the macchina di caffe, I switch off.
  19. First in first served😁 correct. Your turn.
