  1. Sounds perfect best of both worlds. We went in October!
  2. The Viking Amazon River Cruise we did was round trip from San Juan a few years ago.. We enjoyed the cruise BUT it lacked the real WOW that we were expecting from the Amazon. Perhaps the itinerary is different now. We had previously done a small boat River Cruise on the Peruvian Amazon and it was amazing!!! Lots of wild life and fauna! I think to appreciate the area you need a small ship experience. I am sorry I did not explore the options before we went.
  3. I have a few question. Is there a drink package? Cost? Can you use the spa area without charge? Are passengers divided into groups and you stay with you same group for all excursions? I am so glad to see Vantage up and providing adventures on what looks to be a beautiful ship. Enjoy every minute!
  4. Heidi13, I must have missed one of your posts on another thread, I am sorry that you had to cancel your next WC. I enjoyed reading the Magical Mystery Tour. I do hope your DW will be able to cruise again!!! Health at our ages can be compromised so quickly. Thank you for all of your thoughtful and informative posts on Cruise Critic.
  5. Voucher worth is considerably more than cash value. If we can insure the trip that is what we will do. We can easily do an extended voyage to use voucher but even better if we can spread it over a couple of cruises. If my husband can go to Antarctica we will rebook that. We are needing to cancel to close to date of the cruise to transfer the booking. Thank you all for your well wishes and good advice.
  6. thanks, this gives us hope that it will be possible.
  7. My husband has had unexpected heart health issues. We must cancel our late December Antarctica trip. Hoping it is postponing not cancel. If we use our "Cancel for Any reason" we will end up with about $28,000 in vouchers. If we use the vouchers to rebook they are then useless if we must cancel again. We would never travel without the ability to insure the cost of trip. Has anyone been able to insure the value of a Viking Voucher through a third party insurance company? Thanks so much for your collective knowledge. Our TA is checking too.
  8. thanks for the great comparison...think we will stay with Viking especially costly excursions ( we only like DIY when overnighting in a port), small shower I have 260 pound 6ft1 husband, no free internet! I am also wondering if there is a retractable roof on the pool and what the Spa was like or the gym? thanks so much
  9. How many cruises on Viking have you done? Just wondering how you were so lucky to be visited by the Upgrade Fairy? Enjoy! although I do love aft cabin would really love the extra room.
  10. Gratuities, laundry and medical were ALL also included on our WC. As for as I have been able to determine no other crusies off truly "all" inclusive.
  11. Kent, remember HER? I most appreciated the lady who was loudly facing timing with her husband because he was in quarantine, while eating dinner in Manfredi's and she was annoyed with us for asking her to be quieter! On our Panama Canal Cruise last year...I had gotten up VERY early so that I could stand at the rail outside the Explorer's Lounge.......a woman indigently told me I should move since it was her turn to be in the front....I explained that if she had gotten up earlier she too could have had a front row view! My nice husband let her stand in his place....THEN she proceeded to take out her cell phone and make a video as she loudly narrated what was happening and we could NOT hear the historian a few feet away! One sixty to ONE you are SO Right!!!!
  12. A silver lining to the Pandemic was the nearly empty seats everywhere!!! We got spoiled quickly!!! No need to rush for good seats anywhere! Reservations in the Specialty Restaurants were easy to get too.
  13. thanks for this review of the extension!
  14. mich 3534....the WC will be so much more than 54 days aboard mostly because of the Community that builds on a WC as opposed to multi segments! On the WC there were many "local" entertainers brought onboard for evening shows! I think the tours were a notch above what we experience on "normal" cruises with Viking! If the stock market can ever rebound we would consider doing another! The MED portion has improved too! Repeating ports would be fine....there was ALWAYS another choice that I would have liked to do! When is your WC? As others have said going east to west is better for sleeping.
  15. we did this last year on the Jupiter...disappointingly Covid altered our ports on both the SA and TA portions and for much of it we were in a VKING bubble but we still had a great time....we stayed on the Jupiter and did Trade Routes ( Barcelona to Bergen) and then Footsteps of the Vikings ( Begen to Amsterdam)....It was the absolutely perfect Spring time cruise!!! We were able to have the same stateroom for the entire voyage....Captain, Cruise Directors, Guest Service Manager, Financial officer came and went but we stayed :).......we would do it again!!!
  16. this looks like great news for those of you with scheduled journeys...I will be anxious to read about your experiences,
  17. Thanks for confirming that this is NOT the time to think about taking a Vantage cruise on their Expediation ships if you want to go on the itinerary you choose no some random choice of theirs. However, IMO if you really want to experience the Amazon find a cruise in Peru not from Brazil.

    Waitlist

    ok I will keep checking!

    Waitlist

Has anyone ever been able to be placed on a "waitlist?' All lower priced cabins are "sold out" so I am wondering if there is anyway other than checking the website daily for an opportunity to grab a cabin if there is a cancellation. We are considering a long cruise so upgrading is more than $1000/pp....which would negative the current promo for OBC.
  20. We did the Panama transit last Thanksgiving time. We enjoyed the trip even with the Covid restrictions. I urge you to listen to the lectures about the canal. it made such a difference! We had done a canal cruise many years ago on a "big" cruise line...we were in an aft cabin so the viewing was spectacular BUT I learned so MUCH on the Viking journey! Viking's lecturers and historians really are great!
  21. thanks for your continued updates...WE will NOT book with Vantage until I am comfortable that their ships are sailing successfully!
