Some I did & some I didn't. It's still stealing my money either way as I paid good money for them when I could have taken something different.

And yet, you keep going back and giving princess more money.

Why don't you show them in a way that will matter?   Take your cruise dollars to a different cruise line.

If you were an executive at princess, you'd be thinking -- we cheated these people out of their punches, and they still come back!

The only blow-back is some on line whining...

What can we do next to save money???

If the medallion makes you uncomfortable, I understand once onboard you can go to Passenger Services Desk and ask for an old fashioned cruise card instead.

This is what was promised early on.

I have read some posts lately of people being denied.

As to the posts that the medallion without a phone is exactly like a cruise card...

The difference is that Princess can track the location of the medallion.

Some posters are concerned about this, and some are not...

US Federal Law PVSA (Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886) requires that foreign flagged ships that sail between US ports must visit a foreign port during the voyage.

Um ... the original poster was asking about a cruise originating in Japan, and visiting Korea

Unlikely any US Federal Law has the slightest impact.

Japan may have cabotage laws of their own ... discussion of those would be interesing to read.

Did anyone receive a holiday card in the mail from Princess this year? I have for many years, and so far, no card for me.

The Global Innovators are sending the cards this year.

They will initially be surprised that there are postal regulations specifying size and thickness,

for first class mail, causing a re-engineering delay.

They will then announce a schedule by state ... of card delivery dates...

...none of which will be met.

Then, there will be folks here calling me a technophobe for not embracing the new system.

Sorry if you were insulted. You are only mentioning the old way. Reverse osmosis has been used for many years now. Please read. You are correct. But so am I.

Most cruise ship water is desalinated sea water. The process usually involves steam evaporation -- essentially turning saltwater into distilled water. That water is then mineralized for flavor and chlorinated for extra safety. For several years now the newer ships are fitted with a reverse-osmosis system for filtering and/or desalination.

Princess says they use flash evaporation.   Both in their behind-the-scenes video, and when someone asked on the ultimate ship tour.

In the video, they show the evaporators.

    I believe them.

Here is a post by a very well respected chief engineer who posts here from time-to-time:

And, another post which discusses how reverse osmosis is more expensive than flash evaporation:

    (Particularly, the last paragraph)

So, which part of what I originally wrote was "Very amusing"?  ...as you said?

Very amusing. Do you know what bunker water is. Nothing more than stored water. As for Flash Evaporation. I doubt that very much. Flash (or partial) evaporation is the partial vapor that occurs when a saturated liquid stream undergoes a reduction in pressure by passing through a throttling valve or other throttling device. This process is one of the simplest unit operations.

Ships have the ability to filter salt water. You may not know that either. Very excellent drinking water. The water on many ships that you get our of the faucet might be bunker water if there filter system goes now. It is for emergencies. A ship in no way carries all the drinking water it needs stored. NAVY ships do.

I find your comments rather insulting

Bunkered water is water taken on in port.

Perhaps while you're on board, you'll be able to watch a behind the scenes video where they mention flash evaporation,

and how many tons per day they produce.  They have a lot of waste heat...

They also collect air conditioning condensate, and use it for general purposes -- like deck washing.

With regard to which is in use during your cruise...

It depends on the number of hours sailing.

It the ship only sails for a few hours per day, it can't produce enough water, and bunkers.

On other itineraries, there is plenty of sailing time, and plenty of waste heat for flash evaporation.

Maybe you could be a little less condescending.

Had our advisor purchase 100 shares yesterday. 25% return (without considering any dividends) in 14 months,

I can predict that we have three HAL cruises and two Princess cruises booked in the next 14 months. All over 14-day at $250 OBC apiece. Stock price on Tuesday: ~$4800. OBC (if we take all five cruises): $1250.

I think my math is OK? I rounded 26% off to 25% in my head...

Since the beginning of 2018, CCL has dropped from 71 to 46, while in general the market has gone up.

No one can predict what the share price will be in 14 months...

Agree. But reverse osmosis filtered tap water is as good as any bottled water and that is what the bars use.

Princess doesn't use reverse osmosis.   They either bunker water, or use flash evaporators.

Thanks for all your replies! Good suggestions!

Think we'll do just that. Park at the return terminal tomorrow & uber/cab over to the ship so the car will be waiting for us at the right terminal when we return.

    Check for the garage shuttle.

If it's running, it is free.  It is dispatched from near the cabs at terminal 2.

WHen I have used it, it has been uncrowded, and left every 10 minutes or so.

    Where was Royal princess?

It would have been nice of Princess to formulate a consistent policy instead of a wishy-washy depends on what ship you sail on and to whom you talk.

I think most passengers would like this, across all amenities and policies on princess.

Shoot!  I miss the 5 cent Coke in a glass bottle with a 2 cent deposit on it.  Now we have plastic throw away bottles which are going to destroy the universe and all civilization along with those terrible plastic straws.

The change to only soda'n'more only was within the past few years.

    No more than 5 years.

It I wanted to lament older things disappearing, it would be $1 Bass Ales at London Pub Night on (the older) Crown Princess.

For that matter, I think London Pub Night has disappeared, too.

Boy, what a thread!  I've been cruising since 1982, could write pages on what has changed or is "missing"!  Some of the things mentioned an environmental issue, others might be available if you ask.

    I was recently at McDonalds.

I used a straw.  It said, made from plant based materials,  100% biodegradeable.

Princess seems to want to hide cost cutting by claiming  enviornmental.

I guess they never read chicken little...

I'm actually surprised that some of them haven't jumped in to tell us not

to live in the past when things were better.  (Which I have read here)

I miss the plain soda package to $4.95.

The forced up sell to the soda'n'more to someone who doesn't want the 'n'more prevents me from purchasing.

Which, at the moment, is one of the things that keeps me on land.

Glad to hear there are outlets behind the bed because my husband uses a CPAP and was hoping he wouldn't need to extension cord it to the desk outlet. We will be in a mini-suite so don't know if the outlets are different from other cabins.

I can't absolutly swear that you can get behind the bed in a mini suite.

My recollection is that in other cabins, the lowers are twins which

can be made up into a queen; but in a mini-suite it is just a queen.

Hopefully someone with specific grand class knowledge will reply.

Sorry to ask on this thread. (we are on the same cruise 😁

I have a power chair which requires 240v to charge.  My old charger was 110v/240v but when it died it was replaced 240v only.

Does anyone know if they provide a transformers for 240v to 110v?

On grand class ships, there are two 220v outlets behind the bed.  One for each nightstand lamp.

The below photo is from IECalCruiser's post here:

For 'mericans, this has the interesting effect of letting you plug a 2-conducter US cord (non-polarized Type A) into a 220v outlet.

This allows you to power things which have a 2 conducter plug and are rated 120-240v.

Most of the chargers and other small gadgets I have are rated 120-240.

I have found it handy to move electrical clutter off the desk.

After 23 cruises, the Grinch has finally struck and stolen our door decoration.  I was nice seeing all of the decorated doors around the ship early in the cruise.

It was stuff from the dollar store, so it didn't make much sense.

    Now, I simply don't bother.

A couple years ago, there was a thread 'what kind of people will I meet on my princess cruise?'

This thread should probably be merged...
