  1. I haven't seen it make an appearance in the cruise planner since the restart after Covid.
  2. I've been on 4 cruises this year. In February on Navigator it was cans. In March on Symphony it was bottles, in May on Navigator it was bottles, in June on Odyssey it was cans. So it's whatever they happen to have based on current supply chain. Like others, we bring our own water bottle and just pour from the can/bottle into our own bottle.
  3. Yes, you can cancel Voom since you are on a Quantum Class ship. Grand suites and above are given Voom for each person in the suite when sailing on Quantum or Oasis Class ships. Any other class of ship and Voom/wifi is not part of the perks for being in a suite.
  4. Apparently there's a 'sticker' on them. A sticker that tends to fall off.
  5. I don't this this is an excursion. For Alaska, they sell a two-part vacation--half on land (via train and bus through parts of Alaska, includes lodging) and the other half is the regular cruise. Example:
  6. There is really nothing there and not a great spot to just hang out and nowhere to sit and 'people watch'. Pier 91 is a combo of cruise port and industrial area. Eat at your hotel, then head to the port.
  7. yes, it should. With the big U.S. holiday this Monday, I'm thinking we may see a sale start again very soon. But it's Royal, so who knows, haha.
  8. There might be another sale in the next week. Keep checking, you can purchase up until just a few days before your sailing so you might still score a deal.
  9. From everything I've read, it's one day, not 24 hours. We are on the Odyssey 6/12 sailing, so we'll try and test the morning of the 19th using the ship wifi. Our flight is on the 20th.
  10. Thank you--very helpful. We are bringing quite a few home tests so we can test ourselves if we have symptom, and the plan is to try and test onboard on the last morning of the sailing using our eMed tests. It's that pesky 'how long is quarantine' question that has a very elusive answer.
  11. I fully understand the risks. I'll be bringing self tests. I understand that the cruise line won't (and shouldn't) offer assistance if the positive test comes after I'm off the ship. I'll look on the other cruise line boards, but the European season is 'young' and as you point out, not as many U.S. citizens. But perhaps there's a chance that someone has dealt with this and will answer my question. If not, I'm very good at sorting things out as they happen.
  12. We have no plans to cancel either, and fully understand the risks. It will be my 4th sailing this year, 2nd one for my friend who I'm traveling with. We booked this sailing in February of 2021, got a great deal on round trip air by booking the day flights were released 11 months ago. Enjoy your sailing and here's hoping neither of us need to find out the answers to my questions. But I'll be prepared nonetheless. My boss knows there's a possibility that I'll be working remotely from Italy. I also bought a decent insurance policy that covers trip interruption due to Covid.
  13. Now that it's been about a month for sailings out of European ports, I'm curious if anyone has tested positive for Covid just prior to their flight (but have left the ship), and were not allowed to board a flight home. Our flight leaves the day after we disembark, and we have one night hotel booked, but seeing quite a few posts from people who test positive mid-cruising, it seems Royal assists somewhat with quarantine issues. However, once you're off the ship, I'm not sure how you handle things. For example, we will be returning to Civitavecchia. If we test positive at a local pharmacy or our hotel, before leaving for the Rome airport, we obviously can't fly back to the U.S. So I'm curious if anyone has experienced this first-hand and what the process was like--who to notify--airline, and? Not sure what the CDC guidelines are for how long after proctored/official positive test before being allowing to mask up and fly home. 5 days? 10? Till a negative test happens? I have Googled a million different things, such as CDC guidelines, airline guidelines and can't seem to find a definitive answer. I suppose it could vary based on the country you're departing from, in our case, Italy. Let the speculation commence, but it would be great if anyone out there in CC land has dealt with this recently. Thanks!
  14. I've done it with three adults--way too tight. If it were two adults and two small children, that's somewhat doable. Two adults and an adult child and a teen? It will be extremely cramped.
  15. I have noticed that the luggage tags, at least for me, they default to the lowest level of someone in the same stateroom. So when I sail with a friend who is Gold, the luggage tags say Gold (but my set sail pass says Diamond and hers says Gold). When I sail with my adult daughter who is Emerald, our luggage tags say Emerald, but our set sail passes have the correct level for each of us. Our bags always get to the room at the same time--along with pretty much anyone else in the same area of cabins, so it really doesn't make a lick of difference. Set sail pass is where you want it to show the correct level. Luggage tag is where you want it to show the correct room.
  16. I just got off Navigator and also sailed on her in February. The production show in the main theater is Showgirls--and was really good. They also have the ice show--also great! For the ice show, get there early as the venue is smaller and fills up much more quickly than the main theater show.
  17. They do have some good safety locks up at the top of the sliders on balcony rooms. And when the littles are asleep, the adults can hang out on the balcony? But I do get your frustration.
  18. I understand, but it's a battle for your TA since you booked with them. FYI, if you book directly with Royal, they don't call it a 'room selection fee'. There are usually two options, but not always. One is choose your room, the other is a guarantee room and they choose. Sometimes the guarantee room costs more than choosing, which seems silly, but it happens. I think what it comes down to, is did they move you into the exact same category (example a J4 to another J4, or a1D to another 1D) To them, that's the 'same room'.
  19. Welcome to Cruise Critic. If you booked through a travel agent, you MUST go through them for anything and everything (other than purchases via the Cruise Planner for drinks, dining, excursions, wifi). That's why Royal can't/won't help you.
  20. I'm going on her again in September also. It was actually warmer when I sailed on her in February than it was this past weekend. The thing was, the weather forecast had been showing sunny and mid-70's right up until the day I flew to LA (Thursday), and this marine layer thing was sort of a weird, all of sudden change in the weather pattern and then hung around for days. When I landed Thursday morning, it was like descending into cream soup.
  21. I just got off on Monday (5/23) and we had 3100 on board. Pool heaters still broken--water freezing and I never saw anyone get into the pool for more than just a quick 'plunge'. Weather was unseasonably cold, low 60's and drizzle on the day we sailed and the marine layer of clouds stayed very thick all of Friday and all of Saturday. So not exactly pool weather and definitely not when the pools are like ice water. Hot tubs were always busy. On Sunday, Captain Johan came on to announce that he was pretty hopeful that we'd see some blue sky by around noon, for a few hours. That was Sunday, so port day in Ensenada. He was right! Sun did come out for a few hours, but the thick cloud cover was back by about 4 pm. I saw way more people in hoodies and sweatpants than any cruise I've been on, other than Alaska. I did specialty dining, so not sure about how busy the MDR was, but Windjammer was busy during breakfasts each day, hard to find a table.
  22. I'm boarding Friday. I think the 3 night weekend cruises have been fairly full. Even when I did one in February, we were at about 2500 guest and they were very short-staffed at that time. Hopefully that is better this time. But I hear that the still have not fixed the pool heat and it's too cold to get in the pool other than doing a 'polar plunge'. I was told in February that the heaters would be fixed by my May sailing, so I'm definitely bummed.
  23. If you are worried about the steward touching things, how are you going to get through a cruise with literally a couple thousand people, no masks, standing in lines right behind you, squished into the elevator with you, sitting shoulder to shoulder in shows, jammed into the hot tub like sardines? I could go on and on. With an airborne virus, you being surrounded by all these people who are well-- breathing, coughing, sneezing, laughing out loud--is way more likely to get to you than a steward using cleaning products in your room.
  24. See the post above that is the rules right from Royal's site. It tells you exactly what you can bring on--note: they MUST BE CARRIED ON, not packed in your bag. So be prepared to lug it on to the ship and keep it with you until the staterooms open.
  25. My daughter is on this sailing and sent me a screen clip of a video posted from someone in her roll call group. No word on what happened, they were north of Vancouver Island heading toward Victoria, which is their port tomorrow. There sure seems to be an awful lot medical emergencies lately, or maybe we are more aware of them due to social media? Someone else on her roll call posted that they have a forward ocean view room and watched the helicopter hover over the bow and bring the person up. Sure hope they are ok. Rough and sad start for Quantum's first voyage of the Alaska season. 😞
