Based on what P & O told us six days ago, I am awaiting the required letter from my doctor stating that I have an underlying health condition which precludes me from cruising. There will be a charge for this letter and now P and O are saying that they have change their minds and are now only offering a future cruise credit which I will be unable to use as my holidays are already booked for 2021. This is absolutely shocking behaviour by P and O and after being a loyal customer for many years they have lost me as a passenger for good.

I am no expert, but to me you cancel because gov. advice is for over 70's not to cruise. That way you get a refund and don't have to say you are unfit to travel.
but the e-mail saidWe are offering you a Future Cruise Credit of 125% to the amount of your cancellation fee (with any monies remaining to be refunded) to be applied against any new booking up to the equivalent value. Your Future Cruise Credit can be used for a new booking made before 31 December 2021, and can be redeemed against any P&O Cruises holiday sailing before 31 March 2022.
I don’t want a future cruise credit and my cancellation fee is now 50%. I want a full refund.
p and o are very clever with their wording. Help needed please.

I'm not sure, but before sending it anywhere make sure you get a copy of it. If you don't have a scanner, take a photo with your phone or camera.I
As you are over 70 do you actually need a letter.
this is part of an e-mail which I received from P and O a few days ago.Alternatively, you are also entitled to a full refund. If you are cancelling due to concern over an underlying health condition, your refund will be subject to providing proof of your underlying medical condition.

I’ve been trying to contact P and O all of the past week and still cannot get through. Any suggestions? Do I just post my Doctor’s letter to them?

This is part of what I have just read.
“You also have the option of transferring your holiday to an alternative date should you wish, and you can do this up to 48 hours before departure. Under our temporary highly flexible terms, you can choose to transfer your holiday to any sailing within our published programme. Any holiday, any price, anywhere!”
I didn’t make my last post clear.I am booked and paid to go on a cruise THIS May. Does the statement above mean that I can transfer thIs May’s holiday to the B to B holiday I have booked for May 2021.

It means exactly what it says. You get a mix of refund and FCC depending on how far out you are from sail date.

I have two holidays (Back to Back) booked for May 2021 and have paid a deposit of £50 for each. Does the above mean that I can transfer this year’s money I have paid to next year’s booking?

I would suggest you are in a similar position to many of us.I am sure your GP would write such a letter and would certainly do so if Public Health England issue specific advice to “At Risk” groups to minimise situations in which they find themselves in large gatherings.
I would hold firm on claiming on your insurance as I would hope as the situation progresses P&O will be forced to change their cancellation policy, especially if the travelling party contains people over a certain age. This would likely allow you to transfer your booking to a later date, in either 2020 or 2021.
Obviously if they don’t move on their policy a Doctors note could be used to reclaim your money on your travel insurance.
I think the next 2-3 weeks will provide clarity on policy changes and if it doesn’t then I would recommend pursuing the route of securing a Doctors note and claiming on your insurance. You still have 6 weeks before you sail, so you have time on your hands to see if/how the cancellation policy changes over the next 2-3 weeks.
I think you are correct. Somewhere at the back of my mind is the thought that I entered into a Contract with P and O. If for whatever reason, P and O cancel / amend the cruise, they will have broken the Contract and must refund.
I don’t think it is a matter for my insurance Co. unless I choose, on my Doctor’s advise to cancel. Am I being too simplistic?

For some time now, P and O have been cutting back on the facilities they provide for their cruises. Although P & O suits my budget, I have become increasingly unsatisfied with their cutbacks. If they continue to refuse to treat their passengers with respect and adjust their cancellation policy it may be the final straw for me

I am embarking on a cruise on 17th May. I am 78 and have pre existing medical conditions. Including high blood pressure and COPD. I am wondering whether to contact my doctor now, or wait a while and see what happens. My balance is fully paid. Any advice or suggestions would be very welcome.

Cruise starts on 17th May and fully paid.
Q. Should I look into cancelling now with ‘not recommended to travel’ letter from the Doctor or wait and see if P and O are forced to cancel? -
I am 78 and do have high blood pressure, COPD. I have paid my balance direct to P & O. The cruise starts on 17th May. I wonder if I got a letter from my doctor whether I would be eligible for a full refund. Does anyone have any thoughts about this.

I'd be more concerned about the May cruise (I go in May too). I would think that by July/August we'll be well beyond the point of even considering quarantining a ship because it will have spread far and wide.
I’m going on the Aurora on 17th May. Is this the same as you?Christine

We are 81 and 73, neither of us have any health problems, well not ones that would be affected by this. My main fear is being quarantined in my cabin for 14 days!
Jean,
Do you have an IPad? if so load it up with films and jigsaws, there is a free App. For jigsaws but make sure you download them whilst you have WiFi. I’m sure you will have a wonderful time.

Tablelamp ,You need to phone the number on the back of your credit card and ask for a section 75 refund form .
Any payment above £100 the card company are liable to pay the money back to you.
I know it sounds weird but with a credit card ,the card company bought the FlyBe flight for you and as you will not be getting it ,you need to be refunded .
a little bit of good news, flight is operated but Blue Islands and they are still OK- 1

FlyBe have gone into Administration. I have also have flights booked with this airline. Paid by credit card but the credit card bill has already been paid. I suppose that money is now lost. Never rains but it pours!

Due to go on Britannia 19 April, have been following forum with interest. Thoughts on whether we go or not have varied day by day, current view was that if it sails we would go. Had upgraded to a suite for hubby birthday, so 2k to lose. Now just read Flybe are due to go belly up so our flights (booked separately) look to be cancelled, at least that will be nearly £500 recovered as paid by credit card. We could drive to Southampton I suppose but selfishly hope that they cancel the cruise.

I am embarking Aurora 17th May and my balance is paid. Is anybody else booked on this cruise.can anybody tell me how we stand about refunds should the foreign office discourage unnecessary travel. I don’t wish to lose my money but neither do I want to put myself in an unnecessary risk situation. Coming from the Channel Islands I have already paid for my flights to and from Southampton.

I share your sentiments exactly. I am due to go on a cruise mid-May and have paid my balance. I wish P and O would cance..

Hi All,
As I’ve posted before, I usually just look and don’t reply. I log on every day to read the posts from you all especially Jean, JohnMichelle and many more. Though Having done 40 cruises I would like to add a few observations. We have back to back cruises Covering 4 weeks April to May this year.
1. Get to port, refused to board because of temperature, then fighting for weeks with P&O and insurance company for compensation.
2. Cruise commences. First port Corruna. Someone tests positive. No other ports will allow ship in. Ship quarantined for 14 days. Rest of the 4 weeks ruined.
3. Cruise commences. I test positive in Corruna. I am taken off. My wife is quarantined on the ship. She cannot drive home because of a bad knee, let alone taking the 4 cases off. I cannot fly because of inner ear problems, how will I get home.
4. My wife tests positive. She has has pneumonia in the past. Need I go on.
5. French and Italian ports do not allow ship to dock.
I could go on and on. There are dozens of scenarios and could go on and on.
just praying that the cruise companies wii suspend cruising for a few months.

You got further than I did, I just got a recorded message that told me to view their website. Which said nothing that we don’t know already

Tried to phone my travel insurance company and TA this morning to see where we stand if we cancelled. Recorded message at travel insurance ‘we are very busy please send an e mail with your message.’
Girl at TA not trained in cancellations, leave message and they will contact me in a few days.
Very unsatisfactory.

I have had a similar non committal reply saying that my initial claim should be on my insurer, assistance would be available at the port, whatever that means, but no mention that P&O would consider a refund.
Needless to say I have asked for further clarification.
I will also be pursuing with my insurer to see if they offer the same cover as AXA.

I see from the news that the PM is to hold a meeting, following this, things may become clearer.
P&Os new cancellation policy - shockingly bad
in P&O Cruises ( UK )
Posted
Les,
I have a cruise booked in May. From what you say, and I think it is quite likely, that P and O will cancel. Will I then get a full refund?
