It is scary jean we are going next week
Somebody has reminded me today. Although the Captain takes advice, he has the final word, and he doesn’t want to get sick either.

I should mention that I am 79 with health issues, controlled by drugs.

I do think it is best to wait. If people who have paid in fall now cancel, P and O will have their money anyway. As this virus progresses they may have to have a rethink and start cancelling cruises themselves and thus payout. I live in hope!

If P & O said that if you have paid your balance and wish to cancel for whatever reason, we will refund 50%, I wonder how many people would be tempted. I think I would, just to take the worry away. I’m sure P & O are keeping tabs on this discussion.
-
I’m afraid that both P & O and our Insurance Companies have hidden loopholes, very cleverly disguised. I have paid for my flight tickets from the C.I.s to Southampton as well. Speaking to you all this morning, I feel much better. Those of us that have paid our balances are all in the same boat. (No pun intended).
-
For what it is worth, I have been speaking to a friend of mine this morning, (a financial wizard!) He is quite definitely saying. Wait!...... Do not cancel yet as P and O may be forced to cancel and then they will refund your money.

I too am changing my opinion daily. This morning, I am thinking ‘wait and see what happens’. If the virus continues to spread quickly, you may just as well catch it in this country anyway. I live in the Channel Islands so at least we have 100 miles of water between us.

Not sure what is meant by losing 75%, don't you lose the whole lot if you are fully paid up and then cancel?
Jean,How much you lose if fully paid up is on a sliding scale. 100% if you cancel at the last minute and slight less if you cancel with weeks to go.

As I understand it, having already paid my balance I cannot now amend my cruise to a later date. At the rate this virus is spreading, P & O may be forced to take a different approach. If I cancel I stand to lose all my money, if P and O cancel I may not lose it so I have decided to do a ‘wait and see’ and not ‘jump the gun’. Things are happening quite quickly. If the foreign office say do not travel unnecessarily, we may be in a better position.

I have booked. And paid in full for a cruise going to the Med. in May. Hopeless trying to get in touch with P and O. Obviously they are inundated with telephone calls. I am wondering with the worsening situation if they will be forced to cancel the cruise, in which case I wonder if I will get a refund.

It contains a lot of information and possible options - one of which is via travel insurers and could apply to you as a high risk traveller. For anyone in this category, the insurer could well take the line that it would be cheaper for them to pay out under the cancellation section of the policy than a potentially much larger sum under another section of the policy.
Very many thanks for this Harry. I will telephone my travel insurance this morning and explain that my cruise itinerary includes Italy. They already know my pre-existing conditions. I will see what they say and report back to this board.

We are fully paid up and due to sail on the 11th May on the Ventura (our first cruise) not sure where she is sailing at the moment. Anyway we are watching to see how this plays out as my wife has health issues.
I too am full paid up and sailing in 11 weeks. I have health issues and fall into the high risk bracket. Should I wait until P and O cancel/reschedule? Can we get our money back? -

I've paid in full for my 3 short cruises in May/June (two on CMV (Baltics & Northern Isles) and one on P&O (Italy/Croatia) as well as all my travel arrangements surrounding those cruises. Not sure what to do at this point. But I also think the Covid-19 virus is getting so much press whereas the flu kills many people every year and hardly anyone blinks. It's really difficult to accurately access the personal health threat as opposed to the response threat of quarantine and closures.
Whilst on a cruise three weeks ago, I also paid in full for a Mediterranean cruise (including Italy) and departing 17th May. Somebody has suggested to me that I should now wait and let P and O do the cancelling/rescheduling.
If I cancel on my Doctor’s advise, I will have to fight the travel insurance by myself. If P and O cancel/reschedule, they will need to refund my money.
ANY THOUGHTS?

Does anybody know if we will be scanned for a high temperature before boarding? Cruise coming up for 2nd february.

Obviously the reason that we have been chosen is that we are very, very important people.! At the end of the day, we will still be struggling with the shower curtain!
I'm still not sure why we have been selected for the "honour " of online check in. Just wondering why we are one of the chosen few.
It does mean that I can get on board early to watch the France/England match, but I have to find a distraction for my wife - any ideas? Not sure that telling her that she looks really tired and needs a three hour sleep is the best start to a cruise!
I too have been selected for online checkin. Maybe it is reserved for those people who have shower curtain issues. Last year, in a ‘rock and roll’ situation, I fell through the shower curtain, out of the bathroom and straight into the wardrobe, the doors of which I had left open.

The alternative is that they keep it in the fridge.....and cold stilton is definately not to my liking!
but to answer the OP’s question... yes, they still ( or did in November!).Serve Port soaked stilton on formal nights... It rarely appears on the cheese board on other nights but if you ask for it they will happily bring it.
No need to keep it in the fridge, a plastic dome is all that its needed.

I agree.Saga can do it so why not P&O.
I like the idea of shared tables, but please don’t limit it to solo travellers. As a solo traveller, I don’t want to be labeled. ‘SOLO TRAVELLER’

As you say, 31 January will present no problems.
31 December is an entirely different matter, though, and if there’s no deal in place with the EU inside what looks like an almost impossibly short deadline, there could be quite a few problems, notably the risk of long queues at EU ports because we’ll no longer be EU citizens.
The reciprocal health arrangements which are currently so sensible and useful may have gone as well.
there will be no problem at all. I live in Jersey so do not have a UK passport, the most that will happen is that they will LOOK at yo7r passport.- 1

The new personaliser is a joke. Have spent a couple of hours trying to book excursions on lineto no avail. Eventually, after 20 minutes trying to get through to P and O on the phone I managed to have my call answered only to be told that although I could book the excursions the machine which takes the credit card number for payment did not work. What now.
it’s the same old thing that we hear time and time again. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it?
-
I’ve never had any problem whatsoever. Bring water / soft drinks on embarkation day and any of the ports you visit. It is alcohol which is restricted
-
Despite receiving promotional e-mails encouraging me to book excursions, I am still unable to log on so cannot book excursions for an early February cruise. I have reported this to the Q & A team and have received the usual pathetic excuse. Should the excursions be full be the time I am able to book, I shall be very cross.

Is there a lot of piped music around the ship during the day?

Cancelling Cruises because of the C word
in P&O Cruises ( UK )

Surely if you are refused boarding the cruise line must prove that you are sick with coronavirus and not just have a common cold.
