  1. I see alot of people talk about the Lobster Roll at Ocean Blue. Can you get that item at the Raw Bar or do you have to pay the cover at Ocean Blue to get that one item? We have so many great seafood restaurants here in Florida that paying the $37 cover (we have the UDP) seems to be a waste IMHO. Must have for us will be LeBistro. We want to see if it measures up to Murano on Celebrity Reflection.

  2. I understand B is for cabins forward and C is for cabins aft. My question is if we both get on at Terminal C will there be a problem with them getting their key cards for their room. I really hate the idea of us not boarding together.

    Harriet

You would think that is the case but we're in a forward Haven Suite and our e-docs have us boarding in Terminal C ????

  3. We are going to do the Cirque show the first night... If we choose to eat at a different specialty restaurant earlier that night, can we? Can we do 2 specialty restaurants in 1 night? We'd like to eat at Cagneys and then enjoy the show without dinner.

    Thanks ya'll!

  4. Quick story, I wanted to make a point with some friends about "FORMAL NIGHT". It was on our Carnival Freedom cruise in the Med. I had some black shorts altered with the strip down the side to make them formal shorts, also had some flip-flops made to look like formal shoes. The rest of the tux remained the same. Met everyone at one of the bars before dinner and the look on everyone's face when I walked up was priceless. I did get a quick weird look from the Maitre'd (he did let me in the dinning room, even with my shorts). Many pictures taken with other shipmates that night;). I almost put on a formal ball cap but DW said "NO!!!".....Wear what you want and have some fun.

  5. We just did our first NCL cruise on the Breakaway in September. We had no idea what to expect. Hubby and I dressed every single night. He in a sports jacket and me in a cocktail dress. We NEVER felt out of place. Many people still opt to dress for dinner and many don't.

    Have a great time....FABULOUS SHIP

That's our style also :D. I think it's one of our better habits. We've been doing this for so long that it would feel odd not to dress up for dinner while on a cruise ship . Just look for the guy on The Getaway in the tux or dinner jacket and the gorgeous blonde in the long gown, that would be us :).

  6. I will probably be doing the same thing. I think Cagney's on the first night sounds fabulous. I'll waive and say "hey, there's Miataman" when I see you in both places (on same cruise as you). Of course my wife will say..."who the hell is that?".

That's great, you should head over to our roll call. Its been kinda slow over there we could use some help. Also one of our shipmates, Alliezona09 has a group on Mark Zuckerberg's social media site, that we can't mention here, called NCL Getaway, June 14, 2014 you should join us there also. :D

  7. Really hoping to do this on our Dawn cruise to Bermuda in June! We were signed up for it on our last Gem cruise, but it was cancelled for LACK of interest because most of the ship were Kosher passengers that week. We were so bummed. We're sailing in the GV so although you can't book ahead of time, I heard that you can have the pre-cruise concierge note it as a preference for your onboard concierge.

I also heard the same thing. That exact situation happened to us on our last 2 sailings that we wanted to do The Chef's Table, lack of interest and they cancelled them  UGH!!!! I'm hoping The Getaway has a more foodie and winy clientele..lol

  8. This looks good :D. From the dailies I've seen the show starts at 8:45pm. Some are saying that the food is just OK and that if you don't pay attention to the show because you're eating you miss things. So I think we'll eat at Cagneys or LeBistro at 6:30pm and go to the show to see the show which I've been told is worth the price of admission. Yes Lucy, you can do 2 specialty restaurants in one night. ;)

  9. I just logged into our reservation for our August Norwegian Getaway, and noticed that our cabin number had been changed (basically to the opposite side of the ship, still in the Large Balcony category). This makes absolutely no difference to us, and in fact, the new location is a touch better as we will have a more open view towards the aft because the next cabin down is a "slant" back into the regular balcony size. However, I am very surprised that we received no notification or anything about this change - we have never experienced something like this before. Is this something that Norwegian routinely does? (We booked with a TA.)

NCL did a similar thing us. We had a Spa Balcony and was checking MyNCL one day and noticed a room change . I also was working with a TA, she knew nothing about it. They did move us to a bump Spa Balcony so a bit of an upgrade with the larger balcony but not a call or email to myself or my TA . All rendered moot, we upgraded to a Haven Spa Suite :D

  10. I was lucky to receive a 12 btl. rolling carrier from one of my wine vendors for a Christmas gift. Has a nice Rodney Strong logo on the outside. I'll be filling it up with some Gaja, Solaia, Silver Oak, Caymus SS, Inniskillin and a bottle of Chateau Mouton Rothschild for a special occasion. The DW likes Riesling so I guess I'll toss in a couple of those also. Do they charge the same $15 corkage for the 375ml Ice wine?

  11. Starboard or portside??? I know it's up to each individual...I'd like to learn what everyone thinks :D

Sometimes it depends on what your cabin selection is, what's left and what is above or below your choice. We prefer aft or port.

  12. Honestly, the requirement for all parties in the cabin to have a beverage package would be significantly more tolerable if the UBP included more non-alcoholic options.

I really like Celebrity's approach to the beverage package (note - as of my last sailing with Celebrity they didn't require all parties in the cabin to get a package; while I really like that approach, I wouldn't expect it of NCL if the packages were better rounded).

    Celebrity has four versions -

Even if NCL did not want to do non-alcoholic vs normal packages, the diversity would make the cabin requirement a lot more palatable for people like DH and I where I drink and he doesn't.

Please don't flame me for bashing NCL but...

I do think it's unfair to have the cabin requirement & the very limited non-alcoholic options when there are very common situations (such as pregnancy) where alcoholic drinks just absolutely will not be consumed. The requirement or the lack of diversity, but I think having both is limiting the appeal for NCL's beverage package.

This will be my 15th sailing with NCL. First with the "Freestyle Concept". The more and more I read and investigate the options available to guest's the more restrictions I'm seeing . Don't call something Ultimate if it's not. Celebrity get's it!! We picked the Getaway because Celebrity bolts to Europe for the summer, and she is a new ship. We're going to have a great cruise :D but, come on NCL try to keep up with your competition on matters of UBP and UDP. Options for me to purchase without all the restrictions would be nice. I did get the UDP ;)

  13. We are excited, we just upgraded to a Haven suite for 14 June. Can anyone that stayed in this cabin or one close to it give us any pointers on what to expect? We have never been in a suite before and want to make sure to take advantage of what's available to us. Who is the butler for this area of the ship? How does tipping work for butler/concierge. Why do you choose a suite vs a balcony? I spent a long time in the military and it's just my nature to research and be prepared.

Post this on our Roll Call for 14 June 2014. There are a few folks there that might have had that room.

  14. Aren't the 2 things mutually exclusive? NCL will usually offer a price drop with no or lower OBC on a particular cabin category. In my case they offered a price drop AND an increase in OBC. My TA called and got the credits. Then the Haven prices dropped and we re-booked a Haven suite with twice the OBC's. As long as you've not made your final payment NCL will usually do the right thing.......GO GATORS

  15. We were booked on Sunshine this June. I kept watching and reading the reviews on Sunshine. I usually take reviews with a grain of salt, however, Sunshines reviews kept dropping. I cancelled in November and booked the Getaway. Looks like a good choice. Sunshine is 62%, Getaway at 89%

  16. My feeling is the new list is tailored to the NCL customer demographic. Its a user friendly list (good price points). Has some good wines and the generic White Zinfandel. Too bad NCL doesn't have a reserve list on its ships. I can only assume that the reason they don't is because of the bring your own wine on board and pay the $15 corkage fee. Why carry the expensive inventory across the fleet. People have their favorite wines, I know I do and will be bringing on about a case, none of which are on their list :D. Gaja, Caymus Special Selection, Rothschild...oh yea ;)
