  1. It makes me so sad that people are ripping Breakaway! I just got off and had an amazing time.

Someone said the entire crew was 'rude.' WHAT!? I've never seen a group of people work so hard to please their customers! Everyone we passed was friendly and warm and genuinely happy to be there. Not to mention, the officers gave out their personal cell phone numbers in case you had any issues!

Also, you should know before you go that there are 'for fee' restaurants. You can learn all of his on their web site or here on CC.

NCL really blew me away with service. Breakaway is beautiful. The entertainment is amazing. And the food was almost all INCREDIBLE!

I commend NCL and the entire crew on a job well done!

    I'll be back.

YOU NAILED IT!!!! I've been on 45 sailings, many different lines. If you've seen some of my post's you know my feelings on this topic, YOU MAKE YOUR CRUISE. Not the ship, ports of call or crew. OMG!!!!!! they forgot to leave ice in my bucket ..ALERT THE MEDIA!! That server or bartender didn't drop everything to take care of my issue (screw everybody else). I paid my money so I can be a chair hog if I want. Come on folks, you're on vacation, get over it and have fun. :D....Off my soapbox ;)

  2. On the other hand, the wine stewards on NCL are not wine experts and rarely can be helpful in selecting a wine beyond obvious pairings...the wine tastings I've attended have been more like wine trivia (them: what's the best vintage? Me: um, can you be more specific to variety and region? Them: 1998) and the classic "white with fish and red with meat but order whatever you like because your on vacation." But hey, for a small fee you get to sample 4-6 wines and the pours are not stingy.

    Cheers!

Ok, so just a quick question, if the wine stewards are not wine experts about wine do they know how to open an older bottle of wine (without destroying the cork) and decant it properly? We have 2 bottles of 1990 Chateau Mouton Rothschild that we are bringing for a special occasion. I sometimes get a little nervous when I open one of my older bottles :o. Oh well its just a bottle of wine, right...;)

  3. I love NCL and Cruise Critic and the whole world! Based on a recommendation on CC, I got my studio cabin upgraded to a balcony for $13 during Easter vacation week!! In a primo location! I love that NCL will upgrade you for price drops! I'm diamond on RCCL, but I may just become exclusive to NCL!

Wait, they upgraded you to a balcony from a studio with no extra single occupancy charge? Just $13!!!! That's awesome

  4. Speaking of suite perks .... since this is our first time on NCL, although we've cruised other lines, I was wondering about mini suites. Are they considered 'suites' when talking about perks like boarding, etc. Or is is just the Haven suites, etc.? We've always had a JS on other lines and although some of the 'major' perks didn't apply, some did. Thanx!

Unfortunately no perks for mini suite guests.

  5. We are fairly frugal ourselves. We had originally booked a regular balcony cabin. I always watch for price drops so when I noticed a drop in the price of a Spa Balcony to a point it would be less expensive to get that cabin than the regular and purchase spa passes for the week (we love the spa) I upgraded to that cabin. Well, watching for price drops again saw the price of a Haven Spa Suite drop over $1000 over 3 weeks. It finally ended up at $1699 pp (for our sailing in June on Getaway) with a $300 obc . About $200 more than the Spa Balcony cabin. I waited about 5 days to see if it would go down any more, it didn't so we booked that cabin. Sometimes you need to do some homework and it pays off. Good luck. :D

  6. Sounds like a great deal in theory. However I personally would steer clear of sailing BA or GA in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. With all those 'free' UDP the specialty restaurants could be packed. If I want elbow to elbow, slow and chaotic service I can eat in the MDR for no extra charge.

This could be true unless you're staying in a Haven Suite. Its my understanding that you can eat in The Haven Restaurant and order from any specialty restaurant.

All suites are not always expensive. Our sailing in June we got a Haven Spa Suite for $1699 pp. with a $300 obc, still a little expensive but IMHO worth the extra $$$. Our original plan was to get a regular balcony and get spa and Vibe passes for the week. The prices for the Haven Spa cabin came down soooo much it was only $200 more to get the suite.:D

  8. Nice Tracy, we're in the exact same room on Getaway on SATURDAY (can you tell I'm excited!?! never had a suite before, and this one promises to be incredible). Thanks so much for posting your experience :)

We are in that exact room also (14138) on our June sailing. I'm sure you'll give a great review with pics joeski27. At least you don't have to get to the port early to get those coveted Vibe Beach passes :D Wish I was going this weekend. Have a great cruise.

  9. Excuses excuses......

I sailed Epic its first year and came home on Christmas Day with laundry, chores to do, and just vacation fatigue. I made posts on CC after just putting my bags down and started my review the next day. I am loyal to my CC peeps.

No more excuses.... now start writing and posting photos!!!!!!

    :)

LMAO....... I'm with you David...lets go people, write,write,write,upload,upload,upload....;)

  11. Hei,

It's my first cruice but I am not new to cruice ships. I worked on Seabourn Spirit 1995-96 and Radisson Diamond 1996 - 97. Hard to compare...this is a huge ship and those two was 10000 and 20000 tons. And on this one I will be the guest :)

I cant wait for my vacation, will be following this board to see what good info I can pick up

Welcome to CC. We sailed on The Radisson Diamond in 2000 (missed you by a couple of years) That was a very interesting ship :). Enjoy your cruise.

  12. Okay, everyone--let's groan in unison. Yes, I'm one of those traditionalists (age 51) who enjoys dressing up a little, with my wife. No, not white tie, top hat and tail, not even a tux. I'm talking dress slacks, shirt and Navy blazer even on so-called casual nights. All I can say is we love the old ways, even if a blazer would have been regarded back then as declasse.

I mean, really, will this be so over the top that I will stick out like a sore thumb in the Getaway MDR?

Traditionalist here too ;). I will be bringing my tux and dinner jacket. The DW and I love getting dressed for dinner. Its "Freestyle" right. I'm free to look good. "Every girl crazy bout a sharped dressed man". :D

  13. I just spent 30 minutes waiting for a gazillion thumbnails to load, and the only Dailies I found were a couple from a 2 day cruise to nowhere. If there are truly Dailies posted there yesterday from Getaway's Eastern Caribbean cruise that just returned yesterday, can you help out with a more specific link? Thank you!

I just did the same thing..UGH!!!:(

  14. Hi we are sailing the Getaway in June....Wondering what is a VIBE pass? Can we reserve our pool chairs for the cruise? Other cruise lines we've sailed didn't have that. :p

Hey jdrouin, Vibe is like a private area next to The Haven's private area (deck 17). It has 2 hot tub's a private bar and many lounge chairs as well as 5 cabannas. All for a price, don't know that ($75 maybe for the week) they only sell a limited amount so they sell out quickly. If you have a suite you can use The Haven's area so no need to get The Vibe pass. No, reserving lounge chairs. I think we are on the same sailing (June 14). If we are on the same sailing I talk to you on our Roll Call..:)

  15. Has anyone else been using this new tool and find that it isn't working too well ? Put in my criterea for NCL suite price drops for the month of June 2014. Got my Friday email that stated no price drops for my criteria. I've been checking myself all week and the price of a Haven Spa Suite for my sailing in June 2014 has dropped over the last 10 days a total of $1200 . Maybe it still has a few bugs to be worked out .

  16. Yes I saw that also on " my Ncl" limited quantity.

Did this package on Celebrity and asked the Manager at Murano if they sold limited number of packages. He said it depended on the pre sailing online reservations. Our sailing they only sold 30.

  17. Hello all!

I'm sorry if this is a previous post, but as I live in South Florida the easiest way for me to get to the "Getaway" is to drive there. However, does anyone have any experience with leaving your personal car at the port and its safety? And - does anyone know where the best and safest parking for NCL's terminal is?

    Thanks so much!

    P

We've parked at the terminal for the last couple of sailings. $20 per day, excellent security and the best way to get on and off the ship. Would not park anywhere else. The piece of mind is worth the money you pay.

  18. Can someone that has sailed recently and has had the UBP help me out with this. The disclaimer says that, "select Lavazza coffee beverages" are excluded from the package. I get that the specialty beverages and liquor coffee beverages are excluded but can one get a regular espresso or cappuccino with this package?

  19. Upgrading to The Haven Spa Suite on Getaway. Looking at the deck plans the Fitness Center is on deck 15, directly above the Haven staterooms starboard side. Has anyone stayed in these cabins on Breakaway or Getaway and had issues with early morning noise from above? Always like staying on the starboard side of the ship. Port side has Haven Suites above on deck 15. Thanks for the help.:)
