  1. Celebrity does this now. Sailed on Reflection last year and had the Beverage Package. My DW had the Soda package. We did not see or hear of any issues. NCL should not mandate that every person in the room MUST PURCHASE THE SAME PACKAGE. That just turns me off. If We both could purchase what we want they would have 2 packages purchased (1 UBP and 1 soda), as it is now I'm not buying anything. I'll pay as I go and cut back on my consumtion. Not very "FREESTYLE" IMHO.

  2. Again OP, thank you for the post. I've never had an issue with the POM however friends of mine have so I do see how the size of theses new ships has the infrastructure overwhelmed. Just one tip, check on cruisett's website to see how many ships are in port the day you leave. Could help in the decision making process on when to arrive or were to park....GO GATORS

  3. Sounds like a great time.....we are less than 3 weeks out.

Much different reviews than we saw on the last trip we took on a new ship in November on the Celebrity Reflection. Those reviews were terrible and we saw why, the ship was nice, but the crew stunk.

Looking forward to Getaway in June. Sorry to hear about Reflection. We sailed her last March and was one of the best cruises we've taken. The original Crew must have rotated off...

  4. Can anyone tell me what is at the very front of deck 14 on the getaway? We are in a haven forward facing penthouse and can't figure out what is above us. All the deck plans are blank for that area. Thanks

From the pictures I'm looking at it looks like the bridge and maybe the officer's quarters. Could also be communications center. Just a guess..

  5. Just saw a post that someone put up on FB from Gambees cruise page. It had pics of all the drink menu's. Maybe I'm just getting old but I did not see ANY Anheuser Bush products on any of those menus . Someone correct me please.. GO Gators

  6. It has it own galley. In fact it is used to prepare the Chefs Table. I can't answer the speciality restaurant question. In fact I have never seen anyone onboard order from another venue. I would have to believe that the butler would be responsible for placing and retrieving that order.

Thanks for the info. On the deck plans there is a large white area next to the restaurant that is probably the galley. Forgot about the Chef's Table. Is that scheduled on the first or second sea day on Getaway?

  7.

A little confused about the email. It says 2 connect for free. So why are previous posts stating they were charge $7.95 per phone? Still a good deal but just confused  GO GATORS

  8. I was wondering if the Haven Restaurant has its own galley on deck 16 (Getaway)? Or is the food prepared elsewhere and brought to the dinning room. If true , probably why they have a set menu. Also, if you order from a specialty restaurant the servers, or an assistant, would have to actually go to that particular restaurant to retrieve the food (isn't Cagney's at the other end of the ship?). If you do this please tip appropriately ;). Restaurant manager here, just trying to figure out the logistics to run a smooth operation (if that's possible in this situation )....GO GATORS

  9. It is my understanding that if you're a suite guest you could have a specialty restaurant meal delivered to the Haven Restaurant. In case you didn't feel like eating in the actual specialty restaurant. Or if you had a favorite server that worked in The Haven Restaurant

  10. OK, I've looked at the NCL smoking policy..

What about smoking on the ship?

We want you to be comfortable on board, so public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you can do so on your balcony, in the casino or in the Cigar Bar (where available). If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Also, you can smoke cigarettes, pipes and cigars outside on open decks (just not around food venues, sports decks, kids’ pool areas and other designated nonsmoking areas). Smoking inside your stateroom will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account.

Now, the Sunset Bar is adjacent to The Cigar Lounge on Getaway and has an outside area on The Waterfront. It looks like a bar but if they serve food there its a food venue. Can I smoke a cigar there while having a drink?

  11. Just want to put this out there. Having worked at Downtown Disney, (Portobello Italian Trattoria) great Italian restaurant, and driving from Deland to Lake Buena Vista daily you will be returning to the ship during rush hour. No traffic is about 1 hr 20 min. If you leave Disney after 4pm add another 20 min to the drive back to the ship, assuming you take The Beachline Fl 528 (tolls). most direct route to and from Disney to Port Canaveral. You will enjoy Downtown Disney, lots to do there for the youngsters.

  12. Nope, not included. My Australian friends call Fosters "cooking beer". "People really drink that?" they ask me. Haha

LMAO.....I have some Aussie Mates that I play golf with in Orlando. They say the same thing about Fosters, "how do you mates drink that garbage". I personally prefer Molson but that's a personal preference.

  13. Haven't been on an NCL ship since 1999...SS Norway. That was before "Freestyle Cruising" was introduced. Sailing on Getaway in June. We've always been freestyle cruiser's while on a ship anyway, do what we want when we want so no big difference. Been on Oasis and had a great time. IMHO, change is good. Give NCL a shot. I think you'll have a wonderful cruise.:)

  14. You really have to keep up on the pricing structure of your sailing date and desired cabin selection. Then I just ask my CPA brother to figure it out for me..lol. Seriously, we booked a large balcony on Getaway June 14 sailing, last November. In Jan decided to upgrade to a spa balcony because the prices came down. Then early Feb. the price of Haven Spa Suites dropped like a rock to within $200 of the reg spa balcony and NCL threw in a $300 OBC. Last week they come out with the Freesome promo. I did notice that on the first 2 days of the promo our price stayed the same minus the $300 OBC. Now the price of our room went up $1000 no OBC. This promo came out after our final payment. Oh well, I'm happy with what I booked :)

  15. My husband and I will be sailing on 5/3 for our 10th anniversary. We are very interested in the Vibe area and a cabana. Are there any pools in that area? Do you overlook the ocean what is your view from the cabana? Thank you for your review.

No pools just 2 hot tubes. You do have The Haven pool one deck below, deck 16. if you are in a suite. The Vibe Beach Club is on deck 17 and the cabanas are facing out with a great view of the ocean. Somewhere on here is a great pic of the Breakaway from above showing Vibe, just can't find it..

  16. Thanks Allie for posting that link :). Never noticed it until now, most of the "International" beers are cheaper than Bud Light . BL $5.50... Heiniken, Becks, Bass, Molson and some others are $5.25. Thats very odd because most of those beers are .25 to .75 more per bottle than Bud Light when buying from a US based distributor:confused:. But I'll take it :D.

  17. Been on 1 Disney cruise. Yes, it was great however My choice for our June 14th sailing would be an inside cabin on The Disney Fantasy or a Haven Suite on NCL Getaway. The Haven Suite is actually less expensive than the an inside cabin on Disney . Sorry Mickey, I'm taking the Haven Suite :D

  18. Hi,

Is there a limit to how many visits a night you can use your UDP? Say you go for an early dinner at 5 or 6 and are hungry again at 10, can you visit a second restaurant from the Specialty list of restaurants? Or do you need to use one of the "free" food options?

    Thanks,

I was wondering this also  (you can do it on Celebrity), I called NCL and you can visit multiple restaurants in one night, depending on available seating. Appetizers at 1, entree at another and dessert at the 3rd . All the specialty restaurants that are included on the plan close at 10:00 pm except for Teppanyaki which closes at 10:15pm. Seems a little bizarre but you could do it if you wanted too .

  19. The only positive for us is that we are in a suite and can order from any specialty restaurant's menu from The Haven Restaurant (or so I was told) or dine in our room. I do see some issue's if they do give away or sell the UDP to everyone. They only have so many restaurants with limited availability. I guess I'll be making my reservations 55 days out, another perk for a suite.
