  1. The cruise I'll be on in June 2014 the website VInow (CC won't let me add the link :() shows us docking on June 18 at The West Indian Company dock (Havensight) The only other ships on that site's itinerary that are in port that day are Disney Fantasy and Freedom Of The Seas.

  2. What do people mean by saying that NCL nickel and dime you? I unedstand that you have to pay for drinks and excursion and pictures also for specialty restaurants and tipping. what else do you pay for? Is the food any good at the buffet? And the free restaurant?

I don't see it as "nickel & dime". I see it as giving the guest options. If you don't want the extras don't buy them. IMHO I like having the option to eat in a smaller restaurant (as an example). NCL is the cruise line that has the most extras for the guest to "purchase". Other lines have similar options. It just depends on what YOU want to spend. You can have a wonderful cruise without spending extra.

  3. Yes, $20 per day, however, With some of the issues with off site parking recently the knowledge that your car is under 24/7 security is very reassuring. The other nice thing about parking at the pier is you pull in, drop off your bags and you DW or DH pull around the garage, park and then walk across the street and board (totall time from drop off of luggage to walking in the terminal is about 10-15 min. The other nice thing is when you disembark you do the same thing in reverse. You don't have to wait for a taxi, bus or hotel shuttle like the mass hords of fellow travelers. No stress getting on or off the ship. We live in Florida so we drive to the port the day of the sailing.

  4. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Travel Agents almost always buy from the cruiseship. They pay NLC for the bottle. There is no corkage fee on bottles purchased from NCL.

If the agent or you buy if from somewhere else and have it sent to the ship, then there will be a corkage fee.

Again, the bottle that NCL or your TA buys from NCL and sends to your room is not charged a corkage fee.

I'm sorry if I gave wrong information. I just was relaying what I read at the NCL website.... If the TA's can purchase directly from NCL so we don't have to pay the corkage fee that's great..Here is the info I read from the site.

    Wine & Champagne Policy

Guests may bring bottles of wine and champagne on board. When bottles are brought on board and served or consumed in any restaurant, public room area or in their stateroom, a corkage fee will be charged according to bottle sizes noted below.

    750 ml Bottle: $15.00

    1,500 ml Magnum: $30.00

Wine or champagne sent directly to the ship by travel agents, friends, family, etc. or from another retail source, are subject to the same fees. Box wines are not allowed on board.

  5. I am really happy for this new Ultimate Dining Plan. We tend to eat at all the specialty restaurants so this is a great deal. I just called NCL this morning and had them add it to all 4 cabins I have booked. Much easier then logging into each individual one. We can't actually reserve dinners yet til 45 days out like everyone else but we are guaranteed to get in to any of them.

We purchased as well. Having the guarantee is one of the perks of the program. I was told, when I originally called to ask about the program that they are only issuing a limited amount on each sailing. Did the same program on Celebrity and they only sold 30 for our sailing so overcrowding should not be an issue :D

  6. Does a corkage fee apply if you have your wine in the cabin? Or is it just in public? Thanks!

Yes, They charge you the $15 per bottle (as many as you want to bring on board) when you embark. They charge your on board account. They even charge the fee to wine your TA sends to your room. I'm bringing on a case ($180 fee will be charged for the case). If you don't open bottles by the end of your sailing you can get credit on the final night, just go to guest services.

  7. we try not to sleep in, but rather get up early and enjoy the day. We figure we can sleep on the flight home. :)

There's something magical about the serenity of early morning on a cruise ship

You are so right. We always try to beat

the sunrise. They are magical. This time of the morning we also get to talk to some of the crew that you never see during the day. They seem more chatty when there are no supervisors looking over their shoulder.

We have caught many sun rises onboard. It always surprises me how few people are out and about at that time of day. We do our laps around the ship and might see one or 2 other people walking or jogging.[/quote/]

Agree. Sometimes you'll catch some people you talked to in one of the bars the night before that haven't been to bed yet...lol

  8. Trying to find out if I can get a cappuccino or espresso with this package. I'm getting conflicting stories on a number of threads. I get that the specialty coffees are excluded but it just seems ridiculous that I can get a cocktail for $8.50 or wine for $10 and not a $2.50 cappuccino. I would have 3-4 during a day some with a shot of Jameson or Baily's. These are included in packages on other lines. Come on NCL, I would love to give you $788.90...:D

  9. I agree with you totally. If they allow the entire capacity of the specialty restaurants to be sold everyone will have trouble getting reservations and then their will be a new round of complaints even from those purchasing the package. For example I paid for ultimate dining but i couldn't get a reservation until 9:30 or Cagney's was always booked. It could tun into a mess.

They have a similar package on Celebrity. They do limit the number of packages sold. It depends on the number of pre sailing reservations online. On our sailing during spring break last year I asked the manager at Murano about this very thing. He told me they were only selling 30 packages on that sailing.

  10. GIven the choice of aft balcony (B1) on Deck 9 and a (SJ) Family suite on Deck 12 with no balcony, which would you choose?

Personal choice here. I would go with the balcony.

What about suite perks vs no perks

Interesting twist. If you receive OBC for the suite..Hmmm.. This could be tough.....Sorry gotta have the aft balcony :D

  11. Thank you Nutley Chick. I am almost afraid to post a question anywhere but on my roll call.:(

I was wondering the same thing about if there was a pre-purchase discount.

Ask away ;)....please don't be concerned about some of the folks on these boards. 99.9% are here to help.....well latley 99.8%....lol

  12. What am I missing here ? I have not sailed NCL for a few years now, but the buffet has always been unlimited. And the dinning room was to, all you had to do was ask for more. I personally have never seen the need for the pay specialty on board restaurants with all the other on board food available.

Paying and eating in any specialty restaurant is a personal thing. And when they package them at a savings, that's just another thing to look at to purchase on your vacation. Yes, the restaurants that are included in your cruise fair are usually good and readily available. Being in the restaurant business my entire life I like to try the specialty venues. If not for the quiet setting and more personalized service, you get to appreciate and see chef's from around the world show you what they can do. Oasis of the Seas 150 Central Park and Celebeity Reflections Murano are just 2 that give you world class food and service. It also gives the cruise lines another income stream, and that keeps the overall cruise pricing down.

  13. No worries.

Just sailed on the Epic, you will find more people dressed up than not. So wear your fancy outfits. you will not be alone. Its more like an nice evening on the town is the atmosphere. I had more folks look at me crazy because i wasn't dressed. LOL but its freestyle so i gave them the hard 'says something' stare back and I didn't have any problems.

You have options. If you feel like putting on the heels, then fine...if not...you are still fine.

You said it right tiffygirl. It's "FREESTYLE". so if I want to wear my tux or dinner jacket or a suit I will. I like to quote a very special philosopher whenever this topic comes up. " Every girl crazy bout a sharped dressed man"....:D

  14. Ah, the great wrinkles dilemma! We will be on Breakaway in January. I do understand there are no self-service laundry rooms but I've heard you can ask your room steward for an iron and board for a couple of hours....is that true on the Breakaway?

Also I know that irons are forbidden but I've searched this board and have found conflicting responses about hand held fabric steamers. Some threads say absolutely not and other posters say they have taken fabric steamers and left them in plain view and never had a problem. Does anyone know for sure?

    Any info is greatly appreciated!

I too would like to know about the steamer issue. Up until about 5 years ago we took a small steamer with us on all sailings. Now it seems they are forbidden on all lines. NCL folks chime in please :)

  15. Trying to decide on a cabin and I know the Breakaway is suppose to be just like the Getaway. Does anyone have info on cabins 11306 or 11906...looks like they have larger balconies, but I'm unsure!

Looks like the only balconies in that group that are larger are the angled balconies cabin #'s 11274,11874,11294 and 11894. If you really want a larger balcony book Cat. B6 cabins on deck 9. We booked cabin 9128 for June 14th sailing.
