  1. If you have a higher end garment bag use that and check it. If you don't and you travel a good amount purchase a nice one. The one I have is older but large and very sturdy. I'll get a Tux, white dinner jacket, 3 sport coats, shirts and pants in it. I have the folding down to a science and very rarely do I have any wrinkles. If I do have wrinkles just hang in the bathroom with the shower on hot and steam the wrinkles out. Works pretty well. The other nice thing is that living in Florida we drive to the ports so no weight issue's.

  2. What is the one weird/random thing you've discovered you can't cruise without? For me, it's a small bottle of distilled water to fill the reservoir of my steam buddy. It keeps it in perfect working order cruise after cruise... Even when I forget to empty/clean it between trips. What is your weird one thing?

The one weird thing for my next cruise seems to be, from what I've been reading on the Carnival threads, will be my Tuxedo . Not weird for me but when I show up on Elegant night not wearing jeans...well, probably weird for some of my shipmates...:D....just kidding Ya'll..;)

  3. The NYC competition is going to be an interesting thing to keep an eye on. The new Carnival CEO Arnold Donald, who took over from Micky Arison, seems to be a hands on type of CEO. This could be a good thing for this company. I hope its a good thing, we shall see. Vista to Port Canaveral (Orlando). First mega ship to that port. Someone needs to give Disney a run. Still can't believe that people pay $4000 for and inside cabin on a 7 day Disney cruise.

  4. Btw, I think the profile of the ship is ugly. It looks like it has a giant forehead and is stumbling through the water. lol. That didn't stop us and we are glad we tried her. We all agreed we would sail her again.

I really want to try Epic, I just can't get over the, lets build this beautiful ship and then plop a shoebox on the top . I guess I'll have my DW blindfold me before we board and not look at the ship while at port's..lol..:D. Who designed that ship anyway and who approved that design..wow..

  5. Regardless of what you hear, read or post the final answer is what is on the Carnival website and may be in enforced. Here it is:

Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats.

I've been following this thread for a couple of days now and not wanting to reply because of the backlash you sometimes get from fellow members who don't think the rules apply to them. The above quote is what Carnival expects its guests to follow. I'm reading that some are just not paying attention or just don't care about the rules. Now I'll probably hear, "Its my vacation and I can dress however I want". Yes, you are absolutely right, you can, in certain areas of the ship and on certain days as stated by the rules set by Carnival. My real issue is with Carnival. The staff in the MDR's needs to enforce the rules that have been set by their employer. Manager 101, you need to be consistent when enforcing policies on your employees and guests. If you are not, you look ridiculous and folks don't know what to do so they do whatever they want. So much for the written policy........

  6. I've long suspected that.

Deliberately-negative rumours...trying to put people off

    and/or make Carnival look bad.

    I must be incredibly lucky

because I've never been disappointed on any of the ships I've cruised on.

It's easy to believe that some folks board their ship with a spiteful mind,

looking to pick pick pick on any little thing that isn't up to their unrealistic expectations of Heavenly

or what they perceive to be Heavenly. I don't get it.

Life is short. Enjoy it. Do so while there's still time ;)

    .

Awesome post !!! So what you're saying is some people go on a ship and think that the cruise is going to be perfect??? "I paid all this money so it better be".....Ran into someone like that on Celebrity Reflection in March. Started a conversation with this couple while having lunch on The Porch. These folks kept going on about they had booked Conceierge Class and they didn't have there $12 bottle of Champagne in the room and they didnt have a pillow menu and on and on about things that in the overall picture did not matter. Talk to your steward make a call all will be fixed. We finally excused ourselves and left, shaking our heads all the way to the Sunset Bar :D to enjoy a frosty beverage and our cruise. Ran into this couple 4 days later....still complaining  go figure...I think we've had 1 not so great cruise, not bad because if you're on the ship thats a good thing, And it wasn't even the cruise lines fault, really rough seas the whole 7 days. Can't wait to cruise on Sunshine next June.:)

  7. Here is the dress code as taken from the Carnival website...Shorts OK in the MDR regular nights, not OK on Elegant night...According to Carnival

What to wear?Casual attire is the order of the day. We suggest shorts, sundresses, tank tops, etc. for the ladies, and for men; shorts, polo shirts, T-shirts, etc. will do. We suggest you wear rubber-soled, low heeled or flat shoes for extra traction while onboard. The use of any footwear with wheels, including but not limited, to Heelys© shoes, is prohibited on board our ships. For dining you may want to dress up a bit and/or bring along a light sports jacket or cardigan.

Most evenings we have a Cruise Casual dress code, but there are those Cruise Elegant evenings one or two nights throughout your “Fun Ship” voyage, where you will have the opportunity to showcase your more elegant attire. For those who want casual attire for dinner time, the Lido Restaurant is open nightly, and has a more relaxed theme. However, shirts and shoes/footwear (flip-flops) must be worn at all times inside the Lido Restaurant.

Both dress codes for the dining rooms are described below.

Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs).

Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men and baseball hats.

Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too!

  8. Just happened on this thread and all the memories of our first sailings on Carnival came flooding back. Carnival was well established in 1989 but some friends of ours wanted to get all nostalgic and sail on the first 3 ships in Carnivals fleet in one year. Well, we got 2 of them Carnivale in March 1989 and Mardi Gras (Carnivals first ship) in August of 1989 had Festivale booked for later in 1989 but I got sick and we had to cancel. We never did get on Festivale :(. Talked my brother and his wife onto Mardi Gras for there first cruise. OK, into the attic tomorrow:) to dig up some pics...

  9. Our son wants to do Lego Land in FL. We(DH and I) want to do a cruise. My dh found the Ruby Princess 5 nt that would work into our vacation Feb school Vacation. It goes to Cozumel and Grand Caymen(new ports to us). I just found the Victory 5nts ports of calls Grand Turk, half moon cay and Nassau.

both cruises are within $100 of each other. Ruby leaves from Ft. Lauderdale and Victory is out of Miami.

I also want to lean toward Carnival because that's what familiar to us! What would you pick.

    Danielle

I'm a Princess snob  so my initial reaction would be Princess. However, the 3 ports on the Carnival itinerary are probably a better call for your son...I can't believe I'm going to say this:confused:....I'd go with Carnival . Too bad you couldn't find something out of Tampa. Lego Land is in Winter haven which is about an hour drive from Tampa.Have fun :)

  10. I agree with Wrigley80. Back in the day we did only inside to be able to afford the many trips we've taken. Now we only do aft balconies. We did do a spur of the moment Ecstasy cruise last summer and did do an inside. It was actually not a big deal. We usually take a nap in the afternoon and having the room that dark was nice. Our inside was on Veranda deck V32 so we basically just walked out our door and down 1 set of stairs and into the pool :D. You should be fine with the changeover to inside, also as Wrigley80 said the porthole cabins are sometimes cheaper and look at the obstructed cabins as well you might even find a cheap balcony depending on the ship. :)

  11. I prefer to cruise out of NYC or Baltimore so I don't have to fly, but I am not gonna do it again if the itin is Grand Turk, HMC, Nassau or Port Canaveral, Nassau, Freeport. I love all those ports (except Port Canaveral which is a joke as a port), but it is getting tired. I'm cruising the Breeze in Oct and where is she going? Grand Turk, Ocho Rios, and Nassau. Grand Turk from 7 - 2!!! What's the point of that? I only picked that cruise cause that's the week I am on vacation and I want to check out the ship.

Living in Florida we do have an advantage of choices of ships year round. Fewer in the summer but 13 ships (in the summer) to choose from is not a bad thing. I too have limited times I can take vacation and it revolves around my DW's school schedule (teacher). Even those ship's itineraries are getting old. In the defense of the cruise lines you do have only a set amount of islands to go to or that the ships themselves can access. Grand Turk, yea agree, ugh! I would like to defend Port Canaveral if I may. The port itself is just that, a port for ships. Not a tourist based economy driven port. Now if you consider the area within a 1 hrs. shuttle ride, well you have some pretty amazing things IMHO. And an hour ride is not that bad, I've been on longer rides in Jamaca, Puerto Rico and any Mexican port to the ruins. Cocoa Beach, Kennedy Space Center, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Resort, Sea World and about 5 world class golf courses. Also some very nice outlet malls for shopping. You even have International Drive for Senior Frogs and as many T-shirts as you can buy. You still have the better duty free and jewelery shopping in the Caribbean ports but don't sell Port Canaveral short. It's not a joke... Did I just sound like a Chamber of Commerce add , sorry. ;)

PS...Rumor has it Port Canaveral is going to be the home port for Carnival Vista.

  12. The soda program is not a card that you purchase. What you purchase is a "Bottomless Bubbles" sticker that gets affixed to your Sign & Sail card.

You're right, My bad...got the sticker on Ecstasy last summer. Did a lot of swimming, it held up fairly well.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forums mobile app

  13. The big shows in the Liquid Lounge were all much better than I anticipated. I thoroughly enjoyed them. However, the bands around the ship were not as plentiful as in the past. There was usually a duet (girl singer, guy on on guitar) in the Ocean Plaza in the evenings. Or a guy on a guitar in the lobby. But nothing like the small bands in the past. And no live music around the pool - they used DJs there.

I'm thinking that the hiring of Bernie Dillon from Hard Rock as head of live music for Carnival (not sure of his actual title) will put more live music back on the ships:D. Especially on Lido deck. Those DJ's just don't do it for me. Sometimes they're good but most of the time UGH!:(

  14. Booked Sunshine 06/21/2014. I'm seeing alot of negativity :( about this vessel during the Med cruises. Hopefully they work out all the bugs and the staff gets turned around. Then again "YOU" make your cruise and your perception is different than everybody else's. Can't wait to see some reviews on her Caribbean sailings :)

  15. Anybody else having issues with the CC phone app for iPhone?

I haven't been able to access it since yesterday -- will not open.

I am sad :( since i used it all the time! (Maybe I wore it out!:o)

    Thanks!

I have a Motorola Droid Razr Max and was having issues yesterday. used it this morning and it seems to be working ok.

  16. OK everyone, as Bill Belichick would say, "It is what it is". When the news comes out we'll all know......I'm sure when they FINALLY DO TELL US  we're not all going to cancel or make a new booking based on a new steak or a small surcharge on different items ;). With that said, I wish they would just HURRY UP AND TELL US ...lol....Love the Bernie Dillon hire. He, will, shake up the live music aspect of Carnival. :D
