  1. sorry, i feel no loss whatsover if i dont meet any of the ship's officers.
  2. fyi, just to clarify, i usually drink 4 or more pepsi's per day, and may have a scotch prior to lunch ,one prior to dinner, especially if i'm eating in one of the specialty restaurants, and a couple if i'm in the casino. i was merely implying that taking away my daily fix of pepsi, it would probably up my scotch intake. sometimes i'll pass on the scotch, but never on the pepsi. as some people are addicted to coffee, and cant get their motor running without a cup or 2 in the morning, same with me only pepsi instead. yes, i drink coke, but much prefer pepsi-cola
  3. it's extremely easy to get addicted to the haven....spend 24 hrs there, especially if the ship has the specially dedicated bar and restaurant. but caveat emptor!. you may never be satisfied with a lessor category cabin again
  4. even though it's a new (and allegedly) superior experience, after 19 cruises with only ncl, the prima has completely priced me out of sailing on her
  5. i'm with gold connection, i'll take my chance that im missing out
  6. there's no pressure, if you dont want to participate in any daily on board activity, just dont. i skim the dailies, then decide what (if anything ) i want to do
  7. cruiseny4life, i think breakfast is just a bit to early for a scotch. im happy ordering eggs benedict and a glass of champagne. that being said, however, we've been on roughly 19 ncl cruises since 2010, and i'm afraid any discussion of my many misadventures (lol) would either bore you to tears, or put you to sleep. id feel terribly guilty if you fell face down in your french toast. regardless, i would consider it a great honor to have you and your spouse join us for any haven meal and possibly a shore excursion. usually i'm extremely anti-social, and a self proclaimed grumpy old man. so let me know (if you wish) what cruises you have planned. we're on the star from southampton to copenhagen next month, the trans-canal on the jewel in jan, and plans for the dawn in june for the baltic cruise. see you on board. "the love boat, soon will be making another run" Oops, wrong ship.
  8. oh! the horror, the horror! coke instead of pepsi. this just increased my scotch consumption by 500%
  9. ive been blasted for comments about someone changing signatures, the color and style of the ncl logos, but i'll stand my ground. who really cares if officers join a meet and great or not. same as having dinner with ships officers, i am not the least bit interested in either, and after almost 20 ncl cruises, ive never attended a meet and greet. of course, im a grumpy of man which explains a major part of it
  10. RIGHT ON SAILING 12 AWAY!!!!!!
  11. cruiseny4life. while i would love to enjoy the pleasure of your company at breakfast in the haven, i would never, ever presume to bore any one with stories of prior cruises (unless it was reciprical)
  12. AH! shrike, finally, we agree on something!
  13. while i've been addicted to pepsi for almost 70 years, i agree, bottled mexican coke is amazing. ice cold, its orgasmic!
  14. well, i'll sure i'll be able to get over the disappointment, i just prefer pepsi to coke
  15. ok, my good buddy cruiseny4life. in a way, you proved my point. if you believe that eating in specialty restaurants is covered under the nickel and diming argument, then you certainly have the option not to eat there. if youre comparing the costs to land based prices, at least compare them to prices in a luxury 4-5 star hotel. i believe depending on the ship, cabin and amenities, this is a better comparison. we walked out of gordon ramsey's steakhouse in the paris las vegas hotel because i refused to pay $90 for a 5oz fillet steak. check dinner for 4 at beni-hana's, the retaurants land based are similar to those specialty restaurants on board a ship. so just like you have the option not to use the land based restaurants, you have the option not to use the specialty restaurants on board. at least the free at sea dining, although you pay a little extra up front, allows you to try them without any extra costs. absent that option, there are a number of dining venues to choose from. the only thing i really miss is the midnight buffet, but that's gone the way of $1.00 per gallon gas. my cruise would not be complete if i didnt have dinner at teppanyaki at least one night. by the way, i do subscribe to the theory of "dont knock it unless youve tried it" but fried cheese sticks...ugh! no thanks. thank care good buddy, hope someday we're on a cruise together. the 1st drink or an order of mozzarella sticks are on me and hopefully, i'll be having breakfast in the haven restaurant with a glass of champagne! lol
  16. jkbec 101. i enjoyed your post. the last thing i want to do on cruise is turn on the t.v. maybe cnn to find out whats happening in the world, but that's about it. regardless of the cruise length , 1st thing i do when i get home is find out how the dodgers are doing
  17. PATRLR, ok, I understand your position, (dont agree, but do understand) My question to you specifically, is why are you trying so hard to make your point, and why the underlying hostility. up front, please do try and convince me there is no hostility in your posts. since a major selling point for cruises, is the food, do you feel nickel and dimed now that there is specialty dining. if you dont want to spend extra money, there are a great number of choices, buffet, a few mdr's. nice menu's. sorry that most things now costs more, it's called "INFLATION" I dont mean to provoke you any further, but if having to pay for a crepe in coco's is your best shining example of being "nickel and dimed" you should apply for poster boy for "first world problem". The very simple solution, is dont buy the product if you dont like the price. I am truly sorry for you in the inability to get free chocolate crepe, or soft swirl ice cream would ruin your cruise.
  18. free bag of laundry, extra 15% off shore excursions, extra bottles of water, not overwhelming, no major reason to choose ncl, by these 3 by themselves aint bad, we've had 19 sailings with ncl through CAS, and never once did i take point levels into consideration. may make diamond sometime in 2024 but there is nothing at that level that has anymore value to me than what we have now. i really have no great, burning desire to have dinner with any of the officers. pass on that one,
  19. dont forget teppanyaki (my favorite) but make reservations early, seating and tables are limited
  20. FYI, ive never even been in the coco's. any other examples you care to share ie: nickel and diming. we dont do go karting, lazer tagging, ive read that the art auction is one of the biggest rip-offs in cruising, the things i want on a cruise have usually been included in the over-all price, so my friend after 19 ncl cruises since 2010, i have never felt nickel and dimed.
  21. just remember about nickel and dime. this concept comes after you get onboard the ship. at that time, i can only assume you have paid whatever was due, except for shore excusions. simple solution for nickel and dime. dont buy it, dont use it, dont pay for it. i have to agree with rumrunner 2021. what specifically do you feel you are being nickel and dimed.
  22. personally, i'd go to a musical revival play any day. personal favorites, camelot, fiddler on the roof, sound of music. it is probably not feasible to produce these on a ship, but whenever they are performed locally, (los angeles), im there! same with all the old MGM musicals! and fyi, im a 74 year old baby boomer!
  23. well, since jersey boys is about the 4 seasons, and their 1st hit came out in about 1963, i would argue that the premise is not super old, but ancient (lol)by the way, we walked out of the show on the bliss about 2 weeks ago, they were trying to follow the movie, not the play itself. the show dragged until "Bob Gaudio" came in, again playing the same song as in the movie. on the other hand, i thought "six" was amazing. from start to finish, the girls never let up. their energy level was astounding. dont miss this one!
  24. ncl usually offers transportation 2 and from the airport to the ship. i havent used it in a few years, but i think it's $60 per person. you can always hire a cab most of them are right outside the airport. of you can google shuttle services and order transportation from the comfort of your living room. cabs and shuttles will take you directly to the port.
  25. knowing ncl and it's pricing tendencies, once youve booked the cruise and the day after your final payment was due, and you can no longer cancel, then you can bet the prices will go down(lol)
