  1. if y ou look at t he pictures and description, the club balcony is slightly larger than the balcony. our 1st ncl cruise,(onthe pearl to alaska) my wife and i had the mid-ship mini suite and her sister/brother in law had the "balcony. they looked the same, except our cabin had the extra space for the sofa while their's did not.
  2. well aarhus may be as attractive as berlin, but berlin is one of the world's major cities. i might add this cruise included stops at brussels, amsterdam, oslo and ended in copenhagen. i thought it was a great way to see the some of the worlds major sites and cities. while i admit i was disappointed in ncl excluding berlin, my primary objective was seeing paris (and yes, i know it's a 3 hour drive from the port le harve) an added bonus was that the ship left from southampton, so we're spending 3 days prior in london. (another city on my bucket list, and 2 days post cruise in copenhagen) all in all, ive gotten over the pain (lol) of not seeing berlin!
  3. i, am totally aware that a cruise line can cancel/change a port at any time for any reason at their discretion. the disappointment is never the less the same. read all the posts about the change from greenland to norway due to inclement weather. by the way smarta**, i am not geographically challenged. we're on the star leaving southampton on sept 16th and i am aware of the following (1) the brochure says london and southampton is about an hr away. (2) 1st port was paris but the ship docks in le harve 3hrs away. (3) if youve sailed to rome or florence the ports are all about an hr plus away from where the ship docks. i was well aware that we werent docking anywhere near "berlin" but there were a bunch of shore excursions offered for that day, including the train ride. so thank you for your valuable insight (sarcasm intended)
  4. we're booked on the star from southampton sailing sept 16th. one of the ports was berlin (somewhere on my bucket list)when looking for shore excursions, i noticed it was no longer there, instead there was some raggedy a** city in denmark i'd never heard of, nor did a care to visit. no notice, from ncl, no email, and absolutely no explanation. if theyre not docking in berlin, i'd rather have a sea day. when we do arrive in denmark, i probably wont even bother to get off the ship. some swap huh?
  5. kenlorz please forgive me for raining on your parade, but the extra perks are as mentioned above. the club balcony, while a very nice, comfortable cabin, is not a "suite" it's a revamped mid-ship mini suite. you get a free bag of laundry, some goodies delivered to your cabin a couple of times during the sailing, and you can read other posts and threads regarding the bottle of sparkling wine. dont be disappointed when you get to your cabin, it's really very nice, and enjoy your cruise regardless
  6. no, you still have a chance, but you will be notifies by email if you scored the upgrade
  7. hey, mocruisefan: you gave out a ha ha ha to "learnt", but what the heck is inckuded? did you flunk typing 101? so now as they say the "ha ha ha" is on the other foot!
  8. recruiter 28. it's only worth it if the bid is within your budget, and if the upgrade is worth it to you. the club balcony is a little bigger than the regular balcony cabins. this is a question only you can answer for yourself, otherwise you'll get a slew of responses pro and con. 1st check what is the price of the club balcony vs the cabin you have already booked . if there isnt a great deal of difference, why not just book the club outright?
  9. dont worry, they never work right anyway.i cant remember any ncl cruise ive taken in the last 12 years (18) in all, where i havent had to call at least one to have it fixed.
  10. log back on, you will again see the screen saying "lets get you upgraded" click ont his and it will (1) give you the cabins available for bidding, the whee lwith the offers , and when it gets to the one you bid on, it will say review your bid. you can then increase if you want, cancel, or leave it be. hope this helps you
  11. while its sad that you has your heart set on greenland and ended up in norway, you should hav at least breathed a sigh of relief that the ship was able to dock there. i just read that there is a very vocal group of people at 5 different norwegian ports of call, demanding that no cruise ships be allowed to dock. sort of like key west, fla and venice, italy
  12. the shows in the theater are all free. there must have been a misprint, or you read it wrong, in 12 years of sailing with ncl, i have never seen a show offered that was $300 or one any other ship i have evet been on a few years back, there was an amazing show on the getaway called illusionarium. dinner and front row seats were about $35 per person. well worth it i might add, but no where near $300. $300 starts to sound like a major broadway production, which try as they might, cannot be fully duplicated on a cruise ship. try the underground river or chandelear in phantom of the opera, or the closing act of part one in wicked. can't be done
  13. hey bird travels, was this a personal attack, or do you feel all lawyers are slimy? read the question clearly. the concept is very clear whether youre a slimy lawyer or not. if you want to leave a tip, do so, if not dont. it has nothing to do with whether or not there has been a gratuity added if you feel that the additional gratutity to the bill is sufficient, dont leave anything extra. it also has nothing to do with any language barrier. for all the cruises you claim to have been on, im sure you have noticed, most (if not all) of the crew speak english well enough to be understood, and to understand a request in english. i may be jaded in my old age, and i will concede that i probably havent been to nearly as many ports of places as you, but i can tell you, wherever i have been, i have found most people "si habla $20 bill" if not 20 euro bill. if you want to leave a tip (even if there has been a gratuity added) feel free to do so, if not dont. "a rose by any other name...."
  14. if you cross the street from the hotel into the casino, there are loads of places to eat in there. if youre staying in harrah's in the past they had a concierge who recommended to us a great sushi bar just a few blocks away. there are also loads to restaurants within walking distance. dont worry, you wont go hungry. it's been a few years since we sailed from there, but harrah's is across the street from the shopping center. there are loads of places to eat there also. if you go (and im not sure if the place is still there) in the center itself is a shop that sells the most amazing beignets. (im sure that's misspelled but they're made fresh and absolutely decadent!
  15. lovecarnivalcruises: please allow me to apologize. i completely misunderstood your question. while i still feel a great deal of putting together a cruise (including airfare and hotel ) can be self-accomplished, you are absolutely correct. when booking your air with/through ncl, you absolutely need to speak with one of their reps. asking for a "planner" is what threw me. in any event, i hope you get the flights/ seats you want at a decent fare. again, sorry for the misleading information
  16. waiting on hold forever is par for the course with ncl. i've been on hold for over an hour many times. got back from athens this past april, leaving from southampton this sept. perhaps we can help answer your questions. if not no harm no foul
  17. lovecarnivalcruises, (love your name) LOL. hopefully, after your 1st ncl cruise you will change your name to luvnclcruises. on a serious note, however, anyone on this forum is not allowed to offer this type of information on this site or offer their phone number or email address to privately answer the question cruise critic probably will censor the response, and send a nasty email to the person that tried to answer you. i tried and they did! why dont you try and ask your question(s) on this forum, and see if you get a viable answer. there are bunches and bunches of folks who have taken 100's of cruises between them, and i'm sure someone can answer what you need to know, unless its about a specific cruise price. if that doesnt work, if you go to ncl.com, there is a number to call where you can speak to an ncl rep
  18. dear mr (or mrs or ms). whichever the case may be: in theory your post is 100% correct and i agree with you. that being said, however, there are a great deal more intricacies in the many areas of law, where you would be doing yourself a major disservice trying to represent yourself. you could end up either broke or in jail. Before you respond, please note i'm not saying this just because i happen to be an attorney, even i wouldnt attempt to represent myself, and ive been in practice for 40 years. not bragging, just saying! with what i believe are the many knowledgeable people who populate the cruise critic ncl forum, and the volume of information available on the ncl website itself, with a slight bit of research and reading, i think that lovecarnivalcruises could answer most of her own questions. as you so succinctly put it i specifically said "most" definitely not "all" she would probably need to talk to someone about prices, multiple cabins, specific decks and locations, other than those, by either by posting a question on this forum, or looking it up, i think she could have found the information she needed without the need of a planner. By the way, unfortunately she was unaware that responding to this question and posting any information about services offered by anyone is strictly forbidden by cruise critic. i got a nasty email from them when i offered my email address to someone in order to recommend a consultant. if love carnivalruises posts any questions, im sure anyone of us would be happy and more than able to answer.
  19. by the way, le bistro requires men to wear collared shirts. to each his own, but le bistro is my least favorite restaurant on the ship. after 18 cruises, i've eaten there maybe 3 times. even if it's a free meal, i would just as soon avoid it.
  20. cruiseny4life just a word to the wise. i posted my email address previously for some one who wrote that they were not getting return calls from their cruise consultant. i advised i had someone who i thought was excellent. i got a nasty email from the cruise critic powers that be, advising that this is in strict violation of cruise critic rules, and if i did it again, they might remove me. shame on me. just thought i'd give you a heads up. you'll probably get the same warning in a day or 2. IMHO: as far as cruise critic is concerned, "no good deed goes unpunished"
  21. guess they're not in kansas anymore huh toto
  22. at least you could have called yourself benjamin!
  23. mocruisefan. people have chastised me for some some of my posts, but you really seem to have a totally negative vibe. lighten up! ive always posted that most of the ncl so called sales are bs if you check them out thoroughly, on this one, my costs actually went down $2000. i know its hard to believe, but sometimes miracles do happen
  24. i agree, any night is a great night for specialty dining, between cagney's, moderno, teppanyaki, la cuncina and le bistro, that's 4 specialty nights for you right there
