  1. by the way. we're booked on the dawn for a b2b from london on july 27th,2023 all the way tru to stockholm aug 15th.also on the dawn from dubai next dec. ok chiefmate, here's or chance to get together on a cruise, what do you think?
  2. magnoliablossom : chiefmate is correct, spinnaker lounge and topsiders are 2 different things. spinnaker lounge is inside the ship, topsiders is outside of garden cafe, please dont presume what i meant. (dont take that statement as being critical or excessively harsh.) we've been on over 20 cruises with ncl since 2010, some in mini suites (prior to renaming to club suites) and multiple sailings in suite categories), so im aware of the locations yes, i meant great out doors
  3. linbobky. welcome to the wonderful world of ncl accounting practices. check their sale offers in whatever configuration they have (40% off, 2nd passenger is free, ) all they have done for the past few years is play (adjust) the numbers so in end, most of the prices never change, regardless of the offer. on their 50% offer, all they did was jack up the cabin prices we're booked on the b2b ncl dawn july 27 thru aug 15, and im going to see exactly how much the price changes when i try and apply the military discount
  4. chiefmatejrk, after all your posts, indicating you are just as happy in steerage as haven, i didnt think you'd be upset with no observation deck. im shocked! shocked i say! if no observation lounge, the spinnaker works just as well for us. and if its warm, we sit outside the garden cafe or topsider lounge, have a drink (or 2 or 3) and watch the sea go by
  5. travelling2some. yes, definitely. just tell the server not to open it. we even packed it and took it home
  6. we've covered this topic many times in the past, but i would never think of not tipping the butler, cabin steward and concierge. we also tip any staff that performs a service for us, including waiters, bartenders, and even the servers in the buffet that make my crepes or omlets. when staying in a haven, i also frequently tip the maitre 'd at cagneys or modesto. after the first $20, he bends over backwards to help.
  7. im sorry that the ports were cancelled, but if it was me, i'd be very contented lounging onboard the ship for "ALL" sea days. we were booked on the star from lisbon to rio, but jad to cancel, there werea few more ports involved, but "call me crazy" i was looking forward to the sea days
  8. lakesregion. sorry, but your are completely mistaken. you dont need a collared shirt, and jeans will do when you get on the ship. even if youre in a haven, a t-shirt and jeans will work with no problem.
  9. also, le bistro requires a collared shirt. other than that, and the mdr manhattan, there is no dress code. feel free to wear (within reason) whatever makes you comfortable
  10. since you need to be on board at least 2 hrs before sailing, that cuts it down to 8 0'clock. if you have time, explore trieste for a few hrs. it beautiful and worth your time. last oct we sailed from trieste, but it said venice. we flew into venice 3 days prior to sailing, spent 2 days there, hired a shuttle to drive us to trieste, and spent a night in a lovely hotel. we were able to explore trieste for the entire day, and the port is only about 15-20 minutes away.
  11. if the bottle of wine is free (cagney's & le bistro) it seems to me that no one on the staff in the restaurant would/should be concerned if the wine is being shared with anyone else at the table, regardless of whether or not they also have the package. what is the waiter going to do? confiscate the bottle, or the glasses from the other people? i think not
  12. six, however, was amazing.. one of the best shows we've ever seen while on board a cruise ship. (IMHO) incidentally, we've never bothered to see priscilla
  13. on our last cruise, oct/nov, we just went to the showroom, the concierge was waiting there to show haven and suite passengers to their seats, no reservations were necessary. that being said, however, going to the theater a little early, i found the seats we picked out ourselves were much better viewing wise.
  14. cookies, m&m's, gummie bears, chocolate milk. i ask for our butler to bring a pot of coffee and hot water for tea, sweet rolls and croissants 1st thing in the morning, cheese and crackers for an afternoon snack, maybe p&j sandwiches for your kids, just about anything that is reasonable you can ask for with the butler, they can call him and get pizza
  15. mocruisefan....wait until the IRS finds out.D.C. isnt all that big (LOL)
  16. patrlr "NO"!! an accumulation of opinions, just fosters more confusion. with all the different posters on the ncl cruise critic how can one possibly make an educated choice with varying opinions coming from all angles? i stand by my post. what he needs to do, is log onto his website, check out the information listed under entertainment, and decide which show(s) if any he/she wants to see. someone may rave about a show, op gets excited about the review/opinion, wants to see this show, and comes to find out that it's not on his cruise. then what? remember the wise old adage " opinions are like as*****s, everybody's got one. of course it's perfectly fine to ask, but i think there are to many different shows to choose from, for this person to make an informed decision. other than that, i think most of your posts/responses are spot on
  17. took the bliss to alaska this past july, didnt see anything resembling line dancing anywhere, but to confess, im no c&w fan, so even if it was offered, i would have ignored it, but i still think the answer is no, sorry!
  18. werent you aware, when you booked your respective cabins, that the perks offered to haven passengers, did not trickle down to non-haven or suite cabins? if you had a 2 bedroom suite, why didnt you book your parents into the 2nd bedroom, in that way they too would have enjoyed all the privileges afforded to haven passengers. my wife and i often travel with a very good and close friend of mine. when the 3 of us book, we always book the 2 bedroom, as it's only her, she doesnt mind the size of the 2nd room, as she also has full use of the rest of the cabin, as well as the haven perks. by the way, we were also recently on the gem and booked the non haven 2 bedroom. the cabins are essentially the same, but the haven is about 2-3,000 more, so we opted for the non-haven as again, the perks were entirely the same.
  19. cruiseny4life: im so glad you can appreciate my sardonic sense of humor, and i do sincerely hope that one day you and your significant other, chiefmatejrk, and my wife and i can find ourselves on the same cruise. if that ever happens, god save the rest of the ship and passengers
  20. lunch is available on embarkation day for "ALL" guests booked into a suite. we were on the gem last oct/nov. we waited about10 minutes, the butler came and got us all. he took us to the muster station, where all they did was swipe our room keys, then he took us directly to cagneys
  21. without trying to be evasive, arent someone else's opinions of shows subjective? we walked out of jersy boys on the bliss last july, but loved six. some people raved about jersey boys. we had theater tickets to kinky boots, that i gave to my grandson as we had no overwhelming desire to see the show. we went to see "get down tonight" on the gem and thought it was a performance trying to find itself. so you need to decide for yourself,. by the way, i'm 74 and my wife is 73, and actually, i dont really care what shows are being staged on the ship. that's really not part of my criteria, and regardless of the length of the cruise, if i didnt get to see even 1 show, i wouldnt feel slighted, cheated or that i missed something. my best advice to to take the cruise, go to the shows, and make your own decision(s) that being said, enjoy your cruise and any shows you may choose to see
  22. we were 1for 2 for gsc. personally, i wouldnt bother to get off the ship, even if we were able to dock. i'd rather sit on the deck , with a glass of scotch.
