  1. ontheweb a resounding and emphatic "NO" i dont participate in roll calls, unless i have something to add, or want to offer information, as we've been on 18 ncl cruises and about half dozen on other lines, i dont try and join other people on private tours, and i certainly dont want to join anyone in either "meet and greet or pub crawls" im not anti-social, just really not interested in doing so. incidentally, you meet a whole bunch of people onthe ncl shore excyrsions, and if it includes luch, you sit together that being said, however, i do look forward to having a drink with both chiefmate and or sthrngary if the opportunity ever arises
  2. once again, i agree 100% with my good buddy chief mate. it isnt about "status". maybe jsn55 is just jealous or they've never taken the opportunity to book a haven cabin i never mention we're in a haven suite, we just enjoy the amenities, and are willing to pay a little extra to get them. the only time the haven question comes up is if we're on t he elevator with other people and need to put in the key card for the designated haven floors. most often they ask about it, we never volunteer the info and we certainly dont wear hats or t-shirts proclaiming "we're in a haven" quote the immortal billy holiday "t'aint no body's business but my own" as a final note, a wise old man once said "dont knock unless youve tried it"
  3. just curious, in a blind taste test, can you really tell the difference, and isnt bacardi better than cpt morgan?
  4. and, you cant beat teppanyaki or moderno. at the end of the day, its your choice/decision. if you dont want to pay extra for the "specialty" restaurants, then dont go! if youre platinum or higher, you get 2 free dinners anyway. you can always waive the dinner package as well as the drink package. if that's what you want, feel free to eat at the buffet, o'sheehan's, and either of the mdr's. wont cost you an extra cent
  5. if you dont do a lot of drinking, it's in your best interests to pass on the drink passage
  6. sorry, im not cruising for "socialization". in 18 ncl cruises, ive never even been asked if i would like to share a table. most i ever had to wait in a mdr to be seated was about 15 minutes. if you go to the reservations desk once you get on board, you can make dinner reservations at almost any specialty restaurant without any problems
  7. he didnt hit a nerve, it seems he was b**ching about a $20 daily gratuity charge that everyone pays in differing amounts, and i was just commenting, if he didnt want to pay it, he could have it removed
  8. momfrommn. since you already have the promotions, they are factored into your fare. onboard credit would apply to photgraphs, gift shop purchases, and anyting you might buy that isnt included inthe promotion packages. sometimes ncl has sales on sweatshirts, watches, jewelry etc. obc would apply to this.also when your dinner package runs out, you can still use the obc to pay for extra meals inthe specialty restaurants
  9. i will talk to people at a sushi bar if they ask me what i'm having, also if what theyre having looks interesting, i'll ask them. at the teppanyaki, it depends on the others sitting there. if they seem like a lively group, we'll join in. on the jade this april, we sat with 6 people t hat seemed to be traveling together and we were completely ignored. they were all asian ( not trying to be racist here) but we are not, so i guess that explained the situation. i dont believe social skills has anything to do with it. obviously freestyle dining is a sucess, and one of the things that people enjoy about ncl. and if you're on 7, 10 or longer day cruise and find yourself sitting with 6 or 8 other people that you dont know, it could end up being tortuous for the duration. and yes, i know y ou can ask to be reseated somewhere else, but doesnt that defeat the purposeof sitting with strangers. sorry guys, i'll stick to a table with my wife and traveling companions ONLY!
  10. clambake 77, before you book any cabin, im sure you are aware that there is a "daily gratuity charge" per person. ncl has just recently raised the prices. while you may think $20 for no extra perks is excessive, in next one down i believe is $18.50 per day, so in reality you are complaining about $3.00 per day per couple. on an extended 14 day cruise youre talking about an additional $45 (hope my math is correct) sorry, but you'd probably drop more in the casino, if this really, really bothers you that much, go to guest relations and have them take it off your bill. they will do this with no hassles, and you will not be cursed, ridiculed or d**ned for all eternity if you go this route always amazes me, how anyone taking a cruise, can spend 1000's of dollars on their vacation, and still quibble about a daily gratuity. final thought! if you are going to opt for having the daily charges removed from your overall bill, at least be gracious enough to tip individually for any services you receive on board this should include your cabin steward, butler and concierge if you have them, bartenders, waiters and waitresses and whoever is bringing you your drinks in a lounge or at the theater wouldnt hurt to occasionally tip the blackjack dealer if youre doing well
  11. joelheather. fyi, ive never seen adult only titles offered on any ncl cruise, and ive stayed in the haven complex a bunch of times
  12. just asking, isnt "free pay per view" an oxymoron?
  13. sorry, but i try and book a haven whenever possible. i'm not elitist, a diva or a snob, i just really appreciate the extra mile that staying in a haven complex offers. also, i dont want to or wish to share a table with strangers. if we meet someone at the bar, or on an excursion and we seem to click, i might ask them to join us for dinner or drinks (probably not though). its not in my nature to be overly sociable with people i dont know. if you dont like the ship within a ship concept, you have the entire rest of the ship to choose from. starting from inside to club balcony. with that many other choices, you cant possibly have anything to complain about. (by the way, before they were called "club balcony suites, they were listed as mid ship mini suites.) consequently, a rose by any other name...etc. all that being said, in the end, all i really require is get me to my cabin, let me lounge on by balcony with a cold beer or class of champagne, have the butler bring me some afternoon munchies, and all is right with the world. and in the end, youre on a floating luxury hotel, exotic ports of call, capacity for endless food and/or drinks, if you really think that's not enough, wake up, smell the coffee, stop b***hing, and choose another form of vacation. maybe cruising is just not right for you. while covid certainly did a massive number on the cruise industry, i think generally speaking, they do a bang up job of trying to keep 2000-5000 people happy. give them a break. i've been on 18 ncl cruises in the past 11 years, and of course there have been little annoyances, but certainly not enough to ruin a great vacation. so my friend, get over yourself, and if ncl doesnt float your boat (sorry but pun intended) sail with some other line
  14. inside cabin. were you given any explanation for the move?
  15. just remember that (1) the 2nd bedroom is very small. although it will/can accommodate 2 other people, i hope there is no jealousy between the couples. the main bedroom is opulent, the other so-so. my friend sailed with us recently, and although i told her about the size of the 2nd room prior to sailing, she still looked disappointed when she 1st saw the room. we had the cabin steward put in a topper for her bed, and subsequently she was fine. (2) depends on the age of the child. when pulled out the couch can more than comfortably sleep an adult, do you want a small child sleeping in a room by themselves. what if he/she needs to get up in the middle of the night to use a bathroom? if the child is over 12 (only an approximation) there will probably be no problem. anything under that age, i'd need to think about it. What the upcharge would be dollar wise, depends on the ship, and number if days on the cruise. if you want an almost exact amount, merely log onto ncl, put in the month, number of days you wish to sail, the ship and the departure point. it will then tell you to "find a cruise" and show you the availability of cruises for your choice. next either click on the haven, or suite 2 bedroom and that there will be5 people sailing. it should then be able to give you the total cost at the end. some ncl ships have both "haven" suites and suites (not club balcony suites) the suites, while almost identical to the haven cabin, are less costly, although if you book this category, you cant use the dedicated haven pool and restaurant. you do get the other perks, butler, concierge, dining for breakfast and lunch at either cagneys or modernos. while i'd always recommend the haven in a heartbeat, your daughters mind find it more convenient to book 2 club balcony suites next to each other. certainly more privacy for both couples, especially if there is one child
  16. yimminy yeepers! that's a great anecdote. we'll be in oslo on the star in sept. i'll think about your dad. have an ice cold heineken on me!
  17. uff da after 18 ncl cruises through the last 12 years, never once have i been "involuntarily" moved from the cabin i originally booked to a different cabin. while we do get the occasional offer to upgrade (of course for a price increase) i see no reason to do so. the cabin i pick is usually the one my wife and i want. sorry! i dont think your pcc has a clue about what he/she is talking about
  18. you also need to take into consideration, that on any cruise ship sailing with even 1/2 capacity, a michelin restaurant (regardless of how many stars) is not trying to make dinner for a few hundred people per evening
  19. jade april 8th thru 19th. seemed to be business as usual, but with a whole lot less people. i didnt notice any bars or restaurants closed
  20. probably not since each reservation is separate.if it's before the final payment date, you can cancel for a full refund
  21. club balcony "suites" are just renamed what where in the past called mini-suites. keith jenner is 100% correct in his description, the room itself however isnt bad and quite comfortable. just dont book this category cabin with the expectations that the "perks" are the same as if y ou booked an actual suite or a haven. sorry to burst your bubble
  22. while my wife and i never decline, she doesnt drink very much, and i find i drink more throughout the day to justify my having bought it. if we both broke it down to a dollar total day by day, we'd probably be better off declining, but it's so much more convenient when included with the entire booking. on the other hand, however what's starting to annoy me is limiting the initial dinner package to just the 2
  23. jade seemed back to normal, but the ship was only about 1/3 full. casino was virtually empty
  24. since the best anyone can currently do is upgrade to a club balcony suite, for me it probably wont change my booking habits. the club balcony suite were previously called mid dhip mini suites, and although they are comfortable and can easily accommodate 3 people, if i want to stay in this category cabin, i'd just book it straight out. besides, i'm still about 120 points away
  25. by the way chief mate, i have no idea what uff da might mean
