  1. Can't get any closer than the Movenpick City Center. Here is a picture of Jewel arriving from the window at the end of the hall, and then a picture out our room window 🤣 While not literally in the city center, it's an easy walk. and something like 100 yards from the lobby to the port check in. Not to hijack the thread, but here's some suggestions and tips. Get your Anne Frank Museum tickets ahead of time. They go on sale on specific dates for the next month. We did the extra presentation at the beginning, well worth the added price. Also, if you have time, catch the train to the Hauge and do the tasting at Van Kleef. https://www.vankleefwinkel.eu/en_GB/ In Honningvag, the Blue Puffin North Cape tour is highly recommended, and we were not disappointed. I found it amusing that the ship was over twice as long as the pier itself My favorite picture of the ship was in Flam:
  2. We've seen this. Can't remember if it was LA or Amsterdam, but there was a dog & handler checking all the food (& other?) pallets before getting loaded on the ship.
  3. This. When I book a cruise, I put the current prices of all the room categories in a spreadsheet. Then, if my room category sells out, I can make a judgement of whether or not to check by calling based on whether all the other categories have gone down or not.
  4. Here is a link. Looks somewhat active: We did this itinerary last summer. We loved it. Norway is absolutely stunning. You'll have a great time.
  5. Page 12! Has anyone changed their opinion on this?
  6. ok, so out of curiosity, I looked at Suite Guarentee booking that I have (there was a huge difference in price). When I look at my online account (Cruise Planner), it says "Suite #GTY". But when I look at my Cruise Vacation Receipt, I see no reference to "Suite Guarentee", it just says: "Stateroom: GTY". There is only 1 reference to "Suite", and that is in the note about auto gratuities, where it lists both suite & non-suite daily charges. Hmm.....
  7. Here's how I understand it. It's not always just the room capacity, it has to do with the Muster Station capacity that the room is assigned to. Every room is allocated 2 spots, even if there is only a single person booked. I am not positive, but they may even allocate 2 spots to unbooked rooms also. Then there are the rooms that can technically hold 3 & 4 people, but once the extra muster station space is filled up, they will not book a third or forth person in any of those rooms, only 2 people.
  8. In January of '22, I booked Allure for Sept '23 for just $2121 per person for 4 people in a 2BR Aqua Theater Suite (Star Class). I haven't calculated it recently, but at the time of booking, I figured that the intrinsic value of Star Class was $1053 per person per 7 days (then subtract a Genie Tip). A JS at that time was $1021, a balcony $500. But yeah, I agree, at current prices, this might be the last Star Class we ever do.
  9. We've only ever done Hot Stone. Some have been better than others, but we would recommend it.
  10. @John&LaLa may be half joking, but it does seem like a lot of logistics to it again so soon. I also don't think they'd do any hard planning of the next one until after seeing how this one works out. The fact that they went from selling the planned from the beginning 4 large segments to breaking those up into 17 smaller segments so soon makes me worried that it's not quite working out like RCL anticipated. However, I really, really hope this does work out for everyone and that RCL decides to do this maybe every 5 years (give or take). I'd love to do this after we retire.
  11. I'm not in the Navy, so I can't say how the aircraft carriers are referred to by the Navy, but in general, in English, that would not be true. The name of the ship would not have anything to do with how the ship would be referred to gender-wise. Applying a "gender" to inanimate objects is called "metaphorical gender", and at its most simple, things you can get inside of are female, and objects that are solid are male. Something about ships, cars, trains, even countries, and the Earth are all things that protect the contents, like a womb.
  12. We had one on Symphony and loved it. We didn't care about the balcony, but enjoyed having the window seat and the view.
  13. Here is "MS Sovereign" when it was owned by Pullman docked next to Symphony of the Seas in 2018 in Civitavecchia. I wish I had noticed it sooner and taken a better picture, but I didn't. I realized as we were on the bus to the airport after our cruise. I thought it was kind of fun to see the current "largest cruise ship in the world" next to it's ancestor that held the title from 1987 to 1990 and what some people consider the first "mega cruise ship"
  14. Both, depends on the circumstances. That said, I don't think I would ever do a Vision class. The simplistic answer is: Caribbean = ship Most other places, itinerary. Love the Oasis class, but also interested in exploring the world. We are not content to just do the same handful of ports over & over. We are also branching out into river cruising to see things you simply can't visit from an ocean cruise port. Happily did Jewel for Arctic Circle and Iceland & Ireland, and had a wonderful time. Specifically chose Jewel out of Amsterdam over the Quantum class ship out of Southampton because the larger Quantum class can not go to the Arctic Circle ports. After that, did a quick weekend with our daughter and her bf on Navigator out of LA as it was some place we've never gone. Next one is Allure this fall with them again, A couple ports we've never been, but primarily booked due the awesome price we got on a Star Class (2br aqua suite). Then we'll do Radiance for Panama canal. (Spring '24) Fall '24 is Holy Land on Odyssey. I believe it was that or Voyager, and the dates just worked out better for Odyssey.
  15. I forgot to say that my Vienna transfer was not AMA, but I think it still applies. Our first AMA (2019) we also had an early flight and an early private towncar, but don't remember the times.
  16. Leaving in Vienna, the cruise ship arranged for a cab at 3:30 AM for a flight at 6:15 AM 😁 While we've only been on a few river cruises, so far it seems like that they usually/always overnight at the disembarkation port so that people can catch early flights without any issues. So, to the OP, I don't think there would be any issue if you were to disembark as early as you wanted.
  17. Yes, policy says no, but some phones are capable. From what I understand, iPhones are a no. We use Samsung Galaxy phones. We can do this. And while it may technically be categorized as "Tethering", it's still using the "Mobile Hotspot" functionality to do it. We have done this on cruises over the last few years, ever since we started taking a Firestick with us when travelling. We've done it on 5 RCL cruises, and 2 river cruises with 2 different companies. It works just fine. I want to say that in a previous version of the software or maybe it was a Sprint thing (which is now T-Mobile), you could turn on the Mobile Hotspot even with Airplane mode on. Can't do that now, so not sure if it's necessary or not, but when I turn on the Mobile Hotspot on my phone, I turn off Mobile Data to force it to use the WIFI connection. The advantages are that we have the firestick pre-setup to use the hotspot from either of our phones. All we have to do is turn on the hotspot and plug the Firestick in. It will auto-connect. We don't' have to screw around with the Firestick web browser or do cursor typing every single time we want to use the Firestick. The other thing it's nice for is that I can stream music or a podcast from my phone, while using my tablet to play a game. We also only do this when we specifically want it. We don't leave it on all the time.
  18. While a number of people have reported that the trees probably won't be replaced until it moves to Florida, I think it's primarily due more to time than equipment. When asked what this is (the thing that looks kind of like a SAM system), we were told it was a crane, and lifting the trees in & out was specifically mentioned. But I agree. Even if those are the cranes that they will use, it would impossible to do it during turnaround day for safety reasons.
  19. In addition to what @Cruise Gopher said, J4's sleep a max of 2, J3's can sleep 3/4. I believe that the overall room size is the same, but the J4's allocate more space to the bathroom, and there's not enough space for the sleeper sofa.
  20. The app certainly makes that easier, but I think technically you can just go to a URL (like login.net or something) and log in that way.
  21. Technically, no one "needs" the app at all. We like using the app and we both have it, but if you are talking about for check in purposes, you only need 1 per reservation, and you don't even need 1, you can print your setsail pass.
  22. Completely possible per the way RCL operates things, but you are aiming too low. Shoot for Pinnacle. Actually, you don't even need to actually divorce. All you need to do is claim that you live at the same address. Temporarily change one of your addresses in the RCL system, then change it back later.
  23. You seem to be consistently missing the point. I don't think anyone has ever said that your daughter's husband and your other daughter's SO should not be able to share in your daughter's (and your) C&A status during your cruise. There's been discussion about whether or not it's right that such status (especially for the SO) should be a permanent grant or not. There's been other comments about minor status matching has sometimes not been permanent. And there's been discussion about how the "Spouse" status match being changed to "SO" status match specifically to account for same-sex "marriages" before it became a legal status, which your oldest daughter can take advantage of. No one's making any arguments or judgements about couples "living in sin" or anything of the sort. The simple fact is that RCL made that modification specifically for same-sex couples. The fact that it applies to non-married traditional m-f couples is just a reality of the fact that pre-same-sex marriage, there was no legal document of commitment. The fact that theirs an increase in couples not opting for marriage only makes the change increasingly relevant, but that was not why the change was originally made. And what you may have paid for your fairs is irrelevant.
  24. My wife's sister and BIL. So family, not friends, and so not all that dissimilar to the OPs concern. I also said it would be nice. I'm not making a big deal about it. Plus, I've said all along, I'm perfectly fine with an SO sharing status during a cruise. My issue is with them being granted it permanently. Yes, 25 people in a family group would be an issue. My idea is just that, an idea. It's not a fully fleshed out policy. I'm sure something could be figured out that makes sense. Again, family group, not just a bunch of friends. If status is granted temporarily for a cruise, then Royal IT doesn't have to keep track of guests loosing status due to breaks ups, divorce, or even worry about when they turn 18 (which they have their age anyway). Like I said above, this is just idea, it's not a fully fleshed out policy. Yes, like all policies, their needs to be a limit. Right now, RCL's current policy has zero limits. That's the problem. Just trying to figure out something that accomplished the same goal of what I believe the current policy is trying to due, while eliminating 2 major areas of abuse.
