  1. You can plan for this, but the cruise line might announce a shuttle directly to Blankenberge while you are on the cruise. For us, we were notified of this the night before the port and it was vague as to which town it would drop us off in. I'm guessing that if there is a shuttle to "town" it will be Blankenberge. Pay attention to any information provided before docking at this port and also when you get off the ship, there might be buses with signs to Blankenberge. This would be right off the ship and not at the terminal entrance if it were to be organized by the ship.
  2. I'm not sure there is much to see in Zeebrugge itself but if there is a shuttle to Blankenberge then do take that as it seems there is more to see and do there
  3. We just got back from doing this as well. Thanks to all the suggestions here I had a number of options in mind though in the end there was a shuttle from the ship to Blankenberge. They had announced that there would be a shuttle into "town" the night before but were not clear as to which town and from where. We initially did mistake getting right off the ship and getting on the shuttle to the port terminal thinking that might be where we would catch the shuttle into town, but while on that first bus I noticed a row of buses lined up with a sign that said "shuttle to Blankenberge" which passengers did not seem to head towards. When I got to the port terminal, I asked one of the staff who said we could take the coastal tram, but when I specifically asked about the buses that were there he asked the driver who said there were other shuttles to Blankenberge. We took the shuttle back to the ship and got on one of the other shuttles. We were lucky because we just made it onto the train to Bruges- really cut it close. I bought train tickets while enroute on the bus. The shuttle stopped across the street from the train station and as all trains from Blankeberge stop in Bruges, we just needed to run for the only train there. In the end we were able to spend over 4 hours in Bruges which was a lovely way to end our cruise because it was our last port prior to disembarking the next day.
  4. Is it true that all trains leaving Blankenberge goes through Bruges? When I looked at the train schedule it seems the trains to Bruges were hourly- 950/ 1053- are there additional trains that may not have been listed but have Bruges as a stop.
  5. Thank you! So good to know of these options. I'm presuming that the trains from both Zeebrugge-Strand and Blankenberge go to the same train station in Bruges- it will also allow for some options coming back if we can take either train to find our way back to the ship.
  6. Thank you!! Looking in the App Store, there are 2 apps that seem to allow you to buy tickets in Oslo Ruter- mobility in Oslo/Viken and the other is RuterBillett. Which one should I be using?
  7. I'm traveling with a senior and 2 kids. Is there anywhere else I can buy tickets around there or does the app allow you to buy for more than 1 person at a time. 2.5 km would be okay for us to walk but it's nice to have an option to get there quicker and then gradually walk back. Thanks!
  8. This is so good to know! Why more adventurous? It seems that both trains from Zeebrugge-Strand and Blankenberg only run once an hour- we might have more control with walking instead of waiting for the shuttle. We will be there in August so the train should be running?
  9. It looks like we are also docking at Filipstad on Aug 15 on the Disney Dream. We were hoping to go to the New Harbour area and Munch museum. Thinking that the cruise port was fairly close to the city, I had planned on walking. But looking at the maps now it seems that the area is 4 km away. What would be the best way to get to the city from the port? Thanks!
  10. Is this the shuttle to the Blankenberg train station or to Bruges
  11. Thank you!! So the contactless will automatically calculate the return with the trip.
  12. Where can we find the fees for using a contactless card from Euston to Watford Junction vs pre-buying rail tickets. I'm presuming this includes Oyster cards. If this is the case, I now have 3 cards I can use but will still need to buy a single return ticket for a child at the station.
  13. Thank you. I'll look into the Viking museum as well. The last time we were in Stockholm we went to the Vasa Museum, Skansen and GS with the kids. Was trying to think of something a little different to do but realize now with the ship docked further away that we have less time. It seems the travel card for the train from Nynashamn might also work on transit in Stockholm as it is part of Stockholm county?
  14. I just realized that we are docked in Nynashamn for our cruise in August. The last time we were in Stockholm we were docked in Stadsgarden so my notes from then are not helpful. What would be the best way to get to the ABBA museum, perhaps visit Galam Stan and back on our own? I read there is a train from Nynashamn to the Stockholm train station? Would we purchase a public transit pass to get around Stockholm? Thanks
  15. So it sounds like the shuttle bus from the port to the Blankenberg train station is arranged by the port and not the ship which is so helpful to know. Thanks!
  16. Thank you! Did your cruise list the shuttle as an option to book ahead of time. Our cruise with Disney in August doesn't list an option for a shuttle to the Blankenberg station as an option so I'm concerned it may not be offered. I did look at the train tickets and it looks like it is 1 per hour. They do have a duo ticket this summer where 2 people travel for the price of 1- Return would be €7 .
  17. This is so helpful! Is the shuttle from the cruise ship terminal? It seems we also have to take a shuttle to the cruise ship terminal. Do we catch this shuttle to Blankenberg station from the terminal- is this organized by the cruise ship terminal or the ship? How frequent are the shuttles and the train to Bruges. Trying to figure out how much time we need to plan to do this.
  18. I had the same issue so I entered UK and went ahead and paid as usual. The train e-tickets were emailed to me right away.
  19. Thanks! That is why I was asking about strikes- I do plan on buying the tickets ahead of time. Last I checked it was £33 for the 4 of us but now after confirming it's refundable (in the case of a strike) it's now £40. I think I will still go ahead and purchase it in advance along with the Southampton Central to Waterloo tickets.
  20. Thanks for these suggestions! I'm traveling with my mom (a senior) and kids aged 13 and 10. We are staying near Paddington. It seems that given kids travel free on the Heathrow Express, that might be the better route to go for us. What I am trying to figure out is how to use the contactless card for kids. I think the 10 year old is free to travel on public transit- does he just follow an adult? Is there a youth card that the 13 year old can pick up when we arrive? I'm presuming the 10 year old will need a train ticket from Euston to Watford Junction for which he will need his own contactless card or we would have to purchase a ticket. Interesting to hear that using a contactless card might be cheaper. Would it work for foreign bank cards- we are visiting from Canada.
  21. I was planning on buying train tickets ahead of time for our trip in August for the early bird rate- Southampton Central to Waterloo, Heathrow Express and Euston to Waterford Junction for the HP Studio tour. My hesitation is with strikes. It seems these are considered discounted tickets and are therefore non-refundable? Is this the case? You would think that most tickets purchased ahead of time would have some incentive- in the case of a strike would they all be of no value?
  22. Thank you!! Good to know that 25 and 164 are at separate stops. Sounds like 25 should be running in August so it might be easier to go to that stop.
  23. Is this bus stop difficult to find? Years ago (2016) I had followed your instructions to find Bus 25 from Norreport (along with pictures) and it was so helpful! It was not a easy stop to find, but thanks to your photos and directions we were able to find it. When I went back in 2018 I knew what to look for. Looking forward to coming back this summer and so good to know that we will have to get to Orientkaj to take the bus. Is this bus in the direction we need to get to Oceankaj difficult to locate? Thank you!
  24. Do check and see if the newspaper stand at the cruise terminal is selling the tickets. When we were there early July the Tabacchi in front of the Tram station was not selling tickets- I'm not sure if they were just out of tickets that day or not selling tickets at all, but we could not find another tabacchi near by. There was also a taxi strike that day so it took us a while to figure out how to get to Porto Nolana. Once we did, the tram and train ride were straightforward. I also used google maps on the tram with Porto Nolana as the end point to make sure we did not miss the stop.
