On a different note I was looking into different methods of doing rapid testing for covid-19 similar to the system they have at Heathrow airport, this would certainly help cruising to restart, another one I have been looking at is based on the fluorescence of the virus and a imaging computer could give a result in about 5 minutes. Just goes to show the old saying is true "Necessity is the mother of invention" or something like that.

Stoke on Trent is piloting a test where you get your results in 20 minutes.

It is actually my bucket list dream to fly to NY for the day.... earliest flight gets you in around 11a. Cab into town. Early lunch. Afternoon matinee on Broadway, shopping, dinner then back to JFK for the 11p flight home!!!
    Simples.

I hope you get to go but a shopping trip to NY for 1 or 3 days does not appeal

So far, during the absolute worst of the virus, around 1,500 fit and healthy people have died, so we are looking at a dramatic increase

Are these just the deaths that have occurred in hospital?

The table that you posted in #239 only shows deaths from covid that occurred in hospital and does not take into account deaths of fit and healthy working age people that live in care homes because the have Down syndrome or Autism, for example.

Oh dear, while trying to catch me out you have included incorrect figures

I said, quite clearly WITHOUT UNDERLYING HEALTH ISSUES

Thank you for proving my prediction correct

I could quote you the figures that appears on the Office of National Statistics website but you will claim that the figures do not differentiate between those that are fit and health and those that are not.

Also please remember typing sentences in capital letters ( or in your case part of a sentence) is classed as yelling. Which is against CC rules.

This is just as disingenuous to the truth as you claim compman9 is being. The ONS processes raw data and is only as good as the data it receives. It is only when you drill down on this data and take other factors into account that the larger picture emerges.

    1) These are deaths where covid-19 was indicated on a death certificate not the actual cause of death.

    2) These figures do not take into account comorbidities

    3) These figures do not take into account individuals who contracted covid-19 whilst in hospital for other life threatening reasons.

    4) Even the experts accept that a small proportion of deaths are misdiagnosed as covid-19 related without a test.

    5) Daily deaths are added for any reason within 28 days of a positive covid-19 test

    6) There is anecdotal evidence from doctors, nurses and other health professionals especially at the beginning of the epidemic of the misclassification of cause of death.

It will not be evident for a long while what the true impact of covid-19 will be and even longer for the impacts of the actions taken by government to control this virus will result in.

You have a valid point but at least I'm willing to provide the website where these figures came from. So that they can be discussed by any poster who wants to, like yourself.  compman9 never provides any evidence for the claims he/she makes which makes it harder for posters to determine the actual truth.

Clear and evident for all to see

    Help yourself

The fact you are not aware of this is a sad indictment of the media scaremongering and the lack of personal responsibility of citizens to do their own research

Thank you for confirming that your figure of 400 is fictional.

If your figure was actually real you would have no problem posting a link to the website you got your figure from.

I could quote you the figures that appears on the Office of National Statistics website but you will claim that the figures do not differentiate between those that are fit and health and those that are not.

From other posters here the website I use to keep me informed about Covid figures in England:

    https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19roundup/2020-03-26#deaths.

For those that do not want to click the link according to the ONS; England and Wales have had 5681 Covid deaths for under 65's. This figure does not include Scotland or Northern Ireland.

Which is slightly more that the 400 that compman9 likes to post

The number of deaths involving COVID-19 was highest in males across the majority of age groups.png

I don't 'expect' anyone to stay indoors

I expect everyone to take the appropriate precautions to protect their own lives, and not expect fit and healthy people to lose theirs to protect them

People have committed suicide because they have lost their jobs and homes

I think you need to reread your post (#93)

This is exactly the kind of stuff that needs to be stopped.

Agreed. Irresponsible scooter use should be stopped. Along with abuse and irresponsible actions of non wheelchair/scooter uses towards wheelchair/scooter use.

I have lost count of the number of times I have had to break suddenly because someone thinks it's ok for them to cross in front of me.

What did you not like about the ship?

It did not feel wheelchair friendly after it's revamp.

Before the revamp the wheelchair user could play golf and enter the library with only 1 carer. After the revamp the wheelchair user could not play golf, no lift up to the course. To enter the library the user needed 3 people, 1 to push the chair and 2 to hold the doors open.  This situation may have changed since we were on the Indy.

We did complain and received future cruise vouchers.

    No, the opposite.

Educate people of the causes of mortality from Covid.

Help and shield the most vulnerable.

Let everyone else go about their lives.

The UK has 5.5million people over 70 - If each had been given £50k to stay indoors, it would have cost less than the debt the country has piled up.

Total madness has infected the western world.

How long do you expect them to stay indoors shielding?

Also what is the cost to their mental health? People have committed suicide because they could not cope with being alone whilst in lockdown.

I have 13 months to sit back and see what happens.  My next cruise is a L&S to November 2021 and I have no intentions of booking anything else until it becomes clear how everything is handled.

I will get the popcorn out, if when cruising starts up again, people are bumped for one reason or another.

We are like you. We are not booking anything until it is proven that cruising is safe again.

We have too many family members in the high risk group to even consider cruising until it is safe again.

I wouldn't worry so much about ship restriction. I suspect that any capacity limits will largely be self regulating. It is unlikely that anyone in a high risk category will book. At least not until there is some evidence that cruising is once again relatively safe. Many international passengers may wait to book until mandatory quarantine requirements upon return have been lifted.

I would like to agree with you but there will be people in the higher risk group that will book cruises. Because they believe they have a right to take a cruise, whenever they like, even if it's not safe for them to cruise.

Since there is no precedent for the scientists to follow, they first have to invent the study model. The reason the information continues to change is that the knowledge about Covid is developing and changing. From a purely scientific standpoint, it's actually fascinating to watch the evolution of the science if Covid in real time as well as the collision of science and society. From a human standpoint, it's maddening and frustrating and downright frightening at times.

I find it interesting how scientists are working together and sharing info.

It's also great to see how quickly scientist can work, because it normally takes years to develop an effective vaccine.
