I understand that, but if the corporation has the equipment, it really does not make sense not to use it for all its lines. JMHO.

Don't know about the Viva, but that venue did not exist (at least this summer) on the sisiter ship, Prima.

So let me make sure I am reading this correctly. The Carnival Corporation has made the more modern investment in equipment for Princess and HAL, but not Carnival. Somehow, that does not seem to make sense.

Good luck with Air Canada. We have had 3 flights with them (all connected to cruises), and only one was on time. And that was a connecting flight after the first one was delayed and then waited at the airport in Montreal to find a place to park! We ended up running through the terminal to get to the boarding gate. They were already loading. I guess we were lucky our boarding passes were #3.

Would it be safe to assume when you write "the non-updated equipment that Carnival uses" that this breakdown happens often? That is how I read it. Other lines sail out of Seattle including Princess and HAL that are part of the same corporation as Carnival. do they have better more up to date equipment?

Travel and Cruise Showcase 2023 scam?
ontheweb replied to Cruise till you drop's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
One correction---throw it into your recycle bin as junk mail can be recycled. -
Just back earlier this week from a Tulip time cruise in the Netherlands and Belgium. Other than a lot of rain, it was a wonderful experience. The Keukehhof Gardens are spectacular, and luckily it was one of the few days with no rain. Also looking forward to your account. Have a great trip (and hopefully better weather than we had.

I guess there is more of a difference than just the availability of free wine and beer at lunch.

I do not know if other more expensive river cruise lines do this differently or not. It is obviously different than mainstream or luxury ocean cruise lines. I did read that one difference between Gate 1 River cruises and Viking and possibly other river cruise lines was that Gate 1 only had free wine and beer at dinner and not lunch.

The problem was that each day there was only 1 meat dish, 1 fish dish, and 1 vegetarian dish on the menu (+ always available salmon and chicken). If this is the way you are going to set up your menu, your fish dish has to remain a fish dish, not fish + meat.

The Keukenhof Gardens are spectacular. You can easily spend pretty much an entire day there.

There is one thing you need to be aware of. You said you booked with a $99 deposit. The new rate might require a larger deposit. You could lose your cruise if you do not immediately add to your deposit if and when you are allowed to switch to the new rate.

If you book through a TA, you MUST make the payment through the TA. And I believe many TAs do as you said put an earlier deadline. They do this so if you miss their deadline, you still have time to make the final payment in a timely fashion.

According to the media, it is always the fault of the cruise line when something goes wrong.

Having been the first river cruise (though we have taken 2 of their escorted tours) with them, I do not know how common this is? Is it fleetwide? Only in Europe? Only this chef? I do not know. But as I said I emphasized with capital letters that I thought it was a MAJOR problem.
