  1. I know the NY State Commissioner of Insurance has ruled that cancel for any reason is not really insurance and has disallowed it to be sold in NY State. But Gate 1 Travel tried to sell their cancel for any reason insurance to me. Would it have been allowed or disallowed?
  2. I hope your answers on the survey let them know how dissatisfied you are with the customer service.
  3. I did search Gate 1 in the river cruise section, and there was very little information.
  4. Is there any way at that point that a passenger can be helped out to get that requited Canadian visa, or is it too late?
  5. And then someone suggested also looking at other cruise lines. I agreed and said I also just got an e-mail ad from Gate 1 that included what we were looking for. DW suggested March, and I was looking at March next year, but then she wanted March this year. And today I booked for us a Gate 1 river cruise March this year! Since I looked and there is basically nothing in the river cruise section, does anyone know the dress code for river cruises, specifically from Gate 1?
  6. You are never required to tip on excursions, and you will definitely NOT be barred from returning to the ship. In some cultures, tips are expected and in others they are not. And not from personal experience but from what I have read actually on cc boards in some cultures (Japan for instance), they are even considered an insult.
  7. IMHO, the advantage of prepaid tipping is not having to hassle with envelopes and having all the bills to use at the end of the cruise.
  8. On our Prima cruise this past summer, the first time we went to the MDR I mentioned that on the sea day between Norway and Iceland it would be our wedding anniversary. When on land we try to go to a restaurant on water, and could we for that night reserve a table overlooking the ocean? I was told the tables were first come, first serve and other than coming in at 5:30 when they opened, that was not an option. But on that day when we went to the MDR and said it was our wedding anniversary, they sat us at a table bordering the window overlooking the ocean. I have trouble imagining what you could have done to always get a "bad" table.
  9. Well what happened was even more surprising. We first did me in the kiosk and it worked. Then we did DW, and it did not. We called over an attendant and she immediately said the problem was her middle name was not there while it was on the passport. I then asked why it worked for me when my reservation also was lacking a middle name. She could not answer that.
  10. If you look at other forums within cruisecritic, I think you will find negative comments about the IT functions on basically every cruise line's board. 😒
  11. Yes, that's the way the VAT tax works, but not the way things work in the USA. Are there tax exempt organizations in Europe, and if so how are purchases by them treated? Maybe someone from Europe who knows this could answer.
  12. I think I have less faith in the math skills of the average sales clerk than you do.
  13. But that of course was when sales tax was added (as it is now), not the hypothesis given that the price should show the total price including sales tax.
  14. Yes, see my post above yours to see what can happen with flights.
  15. I just don't have faith that the sales clerk would be able to know how to do that if the sales tax was included instead of added on. I guess it depends on their training.
  16. But they did not have to back out of the sales tax because they already had the price and then sales tax was added.
  17. If you book BOGO flights in addition to the cruise, they will at some point ask for middle name for purposes of the flights. (At least they did with us.) The funny thing is they gave the middle names to Air Canada for our flights to London, but did not give them to Iceland Air for our flights home from Reykjavik. This caused us to have to get in line to get our boarding passes as the kiosk would not recognize the names as matching the passports as there were middles names on the passports. (And oddly it was fine with me, but not DW to print boarding passes, something the attendant could not explain.)
  18. Maybe we should change the old saying "different strokes for different folks" to "different strokes for different venues".
  19. When you either look at your credit card statement online or call to ask, is there a charge or a pending charge for the final payment by Princess? That should tell you if you have been charged or not.
  20. How would you figure the price if the buyer is exempt from the sales tax if your price includes tax? I know my DW is a retired elementary art teacher, and she once made a request for something (I forget exactly what) from the school's PTA. It was granted to her, and she got the price and a check for the amount, but when she went to Staples, they give her a bill for more because they added sales tax. That was taken off when she pointed out the sale was to a tax exempt organization. How would you do that if you did not start with a price before tax?
  21. And when our Prima cruise was there for an overnight this past August, there was a HAL ship that was docked out at sea which meant their cruisers would have to tender.
  22. You could "report" your post and ask for it to be moved. You can do so by clicking on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of your post. Just say you are the OP and would like to see it moved to that forum. BTW, those 3 dots can also be used to edit a post you make, but there is a short time frame to do that.
  23. And to sweeten the possibility, the windmills and tulips river cruise we are looking at has an optional excursion one day to Brugge. We missed Brugge on our long ago chartered out river cruise and this past summer when our NCL Prima cruise skipped Brugge due to an extremely low tide. I had worried that museums would have been closed on the Monday we would have been there, but after googling found many art museums open on Mondays that DW would have loved and a French Fry museum, a concept that intrigued me. Our library copy of Fodor's Belgium was sitting on the piano when I had to give DW the bad news I had just received by e-mail from NCL.😒
  24. My bad. I was thinking personal cruise something or other. I'm sure it is not my first mistake or will be my last.
