  1. There's always the sardine museum.
  2. Or you can book with Rodne for 1/3 the cost and do without the waffle.
  3. Torshaven if you must but Viking is not about night life.
  4. Under no circumstances should you not do the Flamsbana excursion. Book as soon as possible. Also highly recommended is the Pulpit Rock cruise out of Stavanger. Book through Rodne.
  5. Pulpit Rock (via Rodne) cruise. Flam Railway.
  6. We also enjoyed a sea day. And $1,000.
  7. Tellus will throw you a bone if you ask. Bornholm is often missed. What is the definition of insanity?
  8. Their contingency plan will be to put you in a hotel until they figure things out.
  9. Did they have Gosling's Rum? Dark & Stormy = Gosling's.
  10. On our first re-booking of our Homelands cruise we got $200 pp discount. Then that cruise got cancelled. The next time we re-booked the credit was $100 pp. I pestered Viking about making the discount $200 on the grounds that they should be willing to reinstate the same level of discount as before. No soap. They said it was a matter of what was going on at the of the booking and those things do not carry over.
  11. Not worth the bother. The one on Jupiter was closed anyway.
  12. The wild blueberry pie is mankind's greatest invention.
  13. Fair cost perhaps. Comparing to other lines is not really appropriate. Hitting it hard enough to beat the cost of the package at Viking prices may be viewed as a triumph by some. If you want to spend your vacation in a alcohol induced haze why not go with Carnival, Princess, etc.?
  14. I have no problem asking for what I want. Room number worked well for anything. The package did not pencil out for us either. We got whatever we wanted whenever we wanted it and wound up with less than $150 in bar/restaurant charges. Now my wife has a stunning amber pendant and a pair of emerald earrings instead of a husband with a puked out liver.
  15. In any of the 3 restaurants they've got your number going in. On our most recent cruise there was never any mention of a wine list - you had to ask and/or stop them them from pouring what they brought with them. I think the option should be presented up front as part of the initial greet. Maybe they shy away from the appearence of upselling?
  16. Of course the minimum changes of underwear system doesn't work out too well when you are stranded in Bergen & Oslo for five days. Then you go buy some "Made in Bangladesh" product at the Oslo underwear store 😊.
  17. Either way you are paying for it. That's the point. Paying upfront might be more convenient.
  18. I appreciate that. My point is that the package is but a means of payment and does not include items unavailable to those who choose to pay as they go.
  19. "You can order alcohol of all varieties at any time of day with the package!" You can do likewise without the package. Why is that so many here think the package opens some special door for them?
  20. I'm asking about your favorite restaurant at home.
  21. "We always pay gratuities up front" Do you tip several months in advance of a meal at the restaurant?
  22. The point is that Viking's use of the term is deceptive and misleading. Viking knows this but they get away with it. That's dishonesty and blows the "no nickel & diming" claim out of the water. It's clear that when you pay "gratuities" what you are really doing is contributing to Viking's payroll fund. They really need to be upfront and just do as so many suggest.
