  1. yeah, just not my style either
  2. Just booked a 2nd Silversea cruise yesterday (Norway!), so as I harvest a few depleted stock investments to cover the fare, all these comments are valued. I do have to ask regarding menus being rarely or infrequently changed. Am I correct that these repeating menus offer multiple choices for one's meal? That there should be no fear that one must ever repeat a lunch or dinner?
  3. Just booked another cruise for next year, 1st time on the Silver Dawn. I can't wait to get back ...
  4. do you think Jeff really left? Not just getting bagels?
  5. I've lived through some terrible things in my life - some of which actually happened (Mark Twain) 🙂
  6. Jeff, I'm going to assume you've really just decided to make a late-night run for some bagels...
  7. Jeff, please let us know if you ever open a bed and breakfast. If you do, I'll be there come hell or inflation!
  8. Jazzbeau, you took a chance on that one. Glad it worked out...
  9. Come to the cooler & you will work up an appetite! Acknowledging how very good fresh baked bread is, my mind then turns to the topic of butter. And how delicious the butter I've enjoyed in both Scandinavia and, more recently for me, Ireland, is. I have to believe there is great butter made in the USA (c'mon Vermont!) but I haven't found it yet.
  10. So many beautiful and enlightening posts here. I fear I can only dilute your thoughts and feelings. But post anyway even if the wine glass is now empty. My grandparents came from the Netherlands on my mother's side, Mom's parents both Americans of Dutch descent. Similarly on my father's side, but Norway, not Netherlands, and the "purity" a bit clouded by a divorce far enough back in time it was considered shameful & so not discussed. So, no English blood (most likely). Yet, England holds sway over my intellect, my sense of justice and fairness, my love for rights earned many years ago by Englishmen and women, my tongue, and at times like this, my heart. So I wanted to say this - there is no doubt in my mind that the British will carry on. New PM, new King, and now I learn here even the BBC is a bit wobbly - but I know you Brits (yes Jeff, Yanks ok even for us Southerners) - will carry on. I can think of no higher compliment for a nation and its culture. Your late Queen is mourned.
  11. Yes. This is truly an unusual, positive thread. Sanity, humor, and the ability to laugh at ourselves makes a mix no other thread I've seen can match. Plus, food! So glad you're all here, & Jeff for starting this, and a tip of the hat to Mysty and now @Lauranne for Canada carrying us on. Now, this past summer (would it PLEASE be past, too da** hot!) we visited Ireland for the 1st time and had some delicious soda bread - admittedly slathered in excellent butter - and would like to experience it again. I've already bought a bottle of Jameson's which, as I recall, had something to do with my enjoyment on at least one occasion. But, if anyone knows about this soda bread, would appreciate assistance in recreating it here in Virginia.
  12. agreed, its why partially melted ice cream placed back in the freezer gets crunchy, no churning during the refreeze in the fridge, if its melting might as well have seconds
  13. These machines do look interesting! Williams-Sonoma has them, not sure what kind of coffee grind they take. Wondering if they are like Keurigs? & of course, no, you do not have to drink coffee to hang out here. While wine is recommended (at least by one Virginian), it is hardly mandatory Still too hot here to think about a hot toddy (as it will be in FLA when Lois returns), but it does sound good & I intend to try once the heat and humidity move to the Southern hemisphere
  14. I recently read this: " In Australia and New Zealand, people drink instant coffee 75% of the time." Could this be true?
  15. Queen Elizabeth's health is worrying. God save the Queen.
  16. totally agree, & right after the mean streak, we'll see about that post, I was laughing out loud (I mean, not LOL, I was truly...)
  17. Hope you are home safe and happy. This music video below offers another glimpse of Iceland and its young people. Been there twice and know we will go at least one more time. Be careful Lirio, such feelings & expressions of kindness can lead to addiction to the cooler!
  18. Thinking you haven't encountered granddaughters yet Stumbles...but I totally agree with you in principle. Still, big eyes and a very young voice saying Gus the cat needed to be adopted & I knew you'd take care of him (& grandma said it would be ok)
  19. Received a new family member as a birthday gift this year. Meet Gus, as he observes a hummingbird at our backyard feeder. Odd, but I am quite sure I've never asked for a cat as a gift in my life.
  20. That's wonderful CatLadyFemme! We will visit Wonderland next March on Odyssey based on your positive experience. Excuse me, but I have to ask, what was MxCatLady's response to the liquid lobster? Having trouble imagining that one...
  21. only knew #6 Mysty, I'm impressed you knew aglet. Griffonage? I didn't know it either but may use it on a few students in chemistry class!
