  1. If the purpose for the extra charge is to prevent this kind of thing, I agree with it. We will have to see how it evolves. Maybe the charge for specialty items only is how it will end up. Not long ago the NY Strip was a surcharge, I believe that now it is included.
  2. You try to stir things up. What are you, 12?
  3. could well be a trial, and whether they keep it going will depend on how much pushback they get Also, if the goal is to cut down on waste, have employees serve at the buffet like during Covid.
  4. Is MSC usually out of terminal 10? We are on the Seashore in January
  5. Do you do a bag drop before you park? Can you do that in Port Canaveral?
  6. MSC seems to be doing OK if they are dropping $100 million on improvements to Ocean Cay.
  7. We were supposed to overnight on ocean cay. My wife and I had planned to privately renew our vows at the gazebo on the beach. Wind prevented the ship from docking on the island and the Captain decided to add 2 sea days on the way to Mexico. We decided to renew our vows that afternoon on our balcony. I guess my wife mentioned something to our butler, who really decorated the room, wrote a handwritten note, and brought champagne, cheese plate and fruit plate.
  8. I believe the thought is to keep the YC lounge subtle and laid back. There are plenty of entertainment options everywhere on the ship. That is one of the best things about YC, you get the best of both worlds.
  9. Separate customer service department staffed with trained personnel.
  10. People complain (not just on here everywhere in life) People post good comments Its a discussion board by people that really like cruising. I enjoy reading here to get psyched about my next cruise and get the latest news, tips, etc.
  11. It’s like buying a business class seat on a flight and somebody in coach taking your seat when you go to the bathroom
  12. The director should have added the cost of the extra dinners to the YC guests bill
  13. NCL has a lower base price so they show up well on cruise searches, but their “taxes and fees” are higher than other lines. And that’s before the service charge.
  14. That’s not what was said. It was said the DSC does not go to the crew, it goes into MSC’s general fund. The crew is paid their contract no matter what. My way gives the crew extra.
  15. Knowing that the DSC does not go to the crew as tips, and that has been debated before on here, it would seem to be better to remove it and give the members of the crew cash as in the old days. Disagree that this would mean an automatic increase in the cruise prices, MSC is positioning themselves as the low cost line. If they are indeed not sharing the DSC they are only using it to prop up their margins. And no I don’t want the government getting involved. I can figure out the price of my cruise
  16. On the last night on our last cruise in YC, they messed up my wife’s filet by putting a sauce on it that was not gluten free. The waiter took it away and came back quickly with another filet. Except the new one was definitely superior to the other one she had earlier in the week. We guessed it came from Butchers Cut. it was a notch above the YC filet. Would I pay extra for it? 50-50
  17. We booked a 7 day with the package in 2019, it was an extra cost back then as well. I have noticed that when we booked in 2019 the package was only around $100pp. Now it looks to be $300pp. A pretty big increase
  18. Whatever class you are in, the food is very similar. Not like on a plane where first class gets a much better meal than coach. I believe the quality of food in MDR (which all but YC get) is very comparable to Yacht Club. So the difference is, for the higher classes, you get better accomodations and increasing levels of service and "extra space." I think the MSC structure is very versatile, you can be a rock bottom priced cruiser all the way to a YC'er, all on the same boat, with the amenities that come with a large ship. For our honeymoon in 1995 on Costa my wife and I paid $1,000pp for 7 nights and got an ocean view cabin. No drinks, speciality meals, balcony. Compare that to what $1,000pp gets you on MSC now. Oh, and the food on Costa was so-so.
  19. The major complaint I have seen on here about not being in the YC, is the crowds. Such as trying to get a dink at the bar, crowded buffet, crowded at pool. I don't recall any posts about the crew members being sub par. When you are on a ship of 5,000 people, they have to go somewhere.
  20. Surge pricing is an increase in the rate when the area you are in is very busy. Such as end of a football game, concert, cruise ship unloading.
  21. The issue in the report was the temp in the coolers, not on the serving line. A tray of food that is supposed to be hot, not being held to temp before being put out is a major violation. There was no mention of this in the report. Maybe things have deteriorated even more on the ship since the report. If that's the case, somebody is in big trouble. Also, @chengkp75, I was under the understanding temps were checked on serving lines to keep out of the growth zones. I could be wrong, the four hours you mentioned I always understood to be for room temperature.
  22. Because of 2 things: 1) MSC has a history of good scores, as do most cruise lines. There is also a lot of anecdotal evidence on these boards of the constant cleaning. Yes, these are the public areas, but you assume the culture carries through the entire ship. 2) A deep dive into the report shows that a lot of it is nickel and dime. A guess might be that seeing the coolers not maintained at proper temp, the inspector came down on them hard. As he/she should, that was a serious issue that could lead to food poisonings, especially items that are consumer raw. The inspector was probably trying to get management's attention. I'd say that it worked.
  23. Since you are coming from the north, you might want to consider catching Brightline in West Palm. I think the difference in parking would just about pay for it. And they now have a service to the port.
