The secret to life in general.

Just my 2 cents. The cruise lines went from sailing almost empty to seemingly being full overnight. They may not have been able to ramp up personnel quickly enough. But since they lost a boat load (ha,ha) of money during covid, they will take as many bookings as they can get. Hopefully these issues are short term.

In your opinion. Others may have a different opinion. I like hearing other's experiences and thoughts about the different programs and such, helps me make decisions.

Ocean Cay yacht club cabana’s value for the $$
KennyFla replied to OP-cruisers's topic in MSC Cruises
I read, I think on this board, that when they were re-furbishing the island this beach was dredged and the entrance was smooth. But a large storm caused erosion and either moved the rocks in or exposed them. If you look at the island on a map, the YC beach faces NE towards the open ocean. -
Ocean Cay yacht club cabana’s value for the $$

I might be missing something, but I don't see why you would pay $400 for that cabana. Seems like you get the same service under the umbrellas. -
Have they ever upgraded you on board, free or with upcharge?
KennyFla replied to BoundForSea's topic in MSC Cruises
This would make sense. I was thinking it would be when MSC, based on history, would determine people were no longer going to buy rooms on that cruise. -

For those who received a complementary upgrade before the cruise, how long before the cruise did you get the upgrade? -
I did a little price comparison. On a 7nt cruise in 2024 a YIN for 2 people is a total of $2658 before taxes/fees. Total for Aurea balcony is $1978. For that difference in price, even without drinks the other perks of the YC make it certainly worthwhile.

I guess I wrote that wrong. I meant to say the anything you want to drink perk. Reminds me of that old SNL skit: "Oh no. It's not all you want to eat, it's all you CAN eat!"
-
A post I read yesterday made me think of an interesting question. If you don't drink alcohol, would you consider the Yacht Club still worth the money? The everything you want to drink perk is a big reason we like it.
-
Don't know the answer about the drink package, we have not brought kids into the yacht club. I imagine they would be served what is age appropriate. As far as the ice cream, I don't think there is a soft serve machine, but I had ice cream with just about every meal. It was THE BEST! Tasted like the homemade ones we did growing up with the little spinning machine.

I think what we like best about YC is the all inclusive. Really is a stress free vacation. I don't worry how many frozen drinks we are having at the pool, if we should have a bottle of wine with dinner, night caps. I appreciate the great butler service, but am not one that likes to get escorted around the ship. My wife is gluten free, she feels safer eating in the YC restaurant than most places because of the fantastic service.

OBSERVATIONS FROM THE POOP DECK SEASCAPE FEB19-26 2023

So if MSC is paying a lump sum as part of the cruise fare, and they have the lowest fares, they must be eating some of it. -
MSC Meraviglia- mini report The Good The Bad
KennyFla replied to basketballdad's topic in MSC Cruises
Maybe right now there is a lot of pent up demand due to the lockdowns, along with a lag in cruise lines getting re-staffed. These issues may work themselves out. It seems that the ever increasing number of cruise ship cabins will out pace the growth in cruise customers. -

Does the tax apply to non-alcoholic drinks? -
They seem to be operating under the model the theme parks do, that when you are on the ship you will spend extra money. Probably more if the fare was low. And these comments about the crew not liking the full ships, the more people the more service charges the more money they make. I bet they are not that upset.

Pretty much everybody on this site has experienced problems with MSC's customer service or IT department. I was just screwed out of $50 OBC because I clicked the wrong button for a cruise next January. I think you can summarize MSC as: Onboard = Excellent. Onland = Sucks. But we all still cruise MSC.
-
So what do you get for the extra charge on Ocean Cay? Seems like it is a short walk to the porch at the House if you want to get out of the sun for a bit. Loved the Beach House by the way.

Yacht Club versus more prestigious cruise line
KennyFla replied to Markanddonna's topic in MSC Cruises
I find NCL a little sneaky, their "cruise" price looks good in the list compared to others but when you walk a reservation through their taxes and fees are higher than anyone else raising the total cost. At least the last time I priced them, been a while. -
