  1. We have GeoBlue also and I looked to see what information was available. There are some Hospitals and Clinics where you might get treated. They did say you could also call Customer Service at 1.855.481.6647. Perhaps they can help you with information that isn't on the website. Also here's a paragraph that you may find useful and a link to the US Embassy in Iceland. U.S. citizens who have a non-life-threatening, non-medical emergency and need to reach the U.S. Embassy during normal working hours, 0800-1700 Monday through Friday, excluding U.S. and Icelandic holidays, may send email to the U.S. Embassy Consular Section at reykjavikconsular@state.gov. https://is.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/doctors/ Good luck and I hope you can get the help you need.
  2. I start my motion sickness medicine at least the night before. I also take it each evening when I'm going to bed. It helps me combat the drowsiness and I get a good nights sleep as well.
  3. Oh, my. I'm sorry I couldn't be of help. Maybe chengkp75, who the other poster tagged, will have some information. He's a retired ship engineer and has been helpful for all types of questions regarding ship capabilities. He may be able to reassure you about the air filtration. When you say you contacted Ship Services, are you saying you contacted the Guest Accessiblity Department?
  4. I can't help you in finding out if HAL has upgraded to HEPA filters. We use a CO 2 monitor and I will say a lot of places have fairly good air circulation as long as the place isn't too small and packed with people. Because of Covid, there is a proliferation of portable HEPA filters that run on a USB. If you look and can find one that would suit your needs, I'm sure HAL wouldn't have a problem with it. It's the filter that needs an electric outlet that they don't allow. We boarded recently with 2 small personal HEPA filters with no problem. This is one I have heard about from social media that people seem to like, just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. https://www.smarterhepa.com/products/qt3-portable-air-purifier-the-small-lightweight-qt3-delivers-clean-air-wherever-you-go-personal-fan-and-hepa-filter-includes-lithium-battery?variant=41585234870456&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7aqkBhDPARIsAKGa0oJy2xIhxW7GzuOnfZvidi8heaGL79hkizs7gSjZf9WU2ZcWp9uSW0kaAutWEALw_wcB
  5. I followed your trip thread and it did seem like you were having a great cruise. I'm glad you gave it a try and I'm sure your husband would be proud of you. Every solo trip you do will build more comfort and confidence. I must say, I'm a little dismayed by your treatment in the specialty restaurants. I haven't eaten solo in one on HAL but now I will be a little hesitant. I did eat solo in restaurants on my Disney cruises. I've always felt very welcomed and received extra attention. In fact, the first time, I received a small plate of the most special things they had on the menu, in addition to what I had ordered, and even the remains of a bottle of champagne someone had opened that they explained they would rather I enjoy than recork. After all this attention, I had to laugh when at the end of my meal, my waiter asked If I worked for Disney. 😄 Thanks for coming back to this thread and posting an update. You just might have given someone else contemplating a solo trip the courage they needed.
  6. The crew on Disney cruises are so relentless with pushing for favorable reviews on the after cruise survey, that Disney added a question to their survey - Did you feel pressured by staff to give a favorable review?
  7. I have to say that on my last 2 cruises, that card has not shown up. We have called to have our dishes picked up and they have asked us to place them outside the room every time. We questioned them about this and they reiterated that we should put them outside the room. I didn't like it, but I did as we were told.
  8. I will say that my Bombay Sapphire and Tonic just this past March was $10.75, so one more price increase and it may take the Elite package. That's a big IF. Someone posted some menus and Sapphire was not listed. I'm hoping that it can be found at one bar somewhere on the ship.
  9. We did a Caribbean Cruise on NA in March and were given the Anniversary tiles.
  10. is this actually a comprehensive list of the brands they are pouring? There is no Jack Daniel’s-one of the top selling whiskeys in the world, to use as an example. Or is the beverage list just what you can count on being available?
  11. I do pack my husbands Tommy Bahama shirts that I absolutely hate to iron.
  12. I do use the form and keep the bottom copy. I had just never thought to fill out the form with name and cabin number, then check “By the bag” and let it go. I can usually stuff my bag with a ton of items and I always tally how many of what clothing I’ve sent to them. It had never occurred to me to skip the tally of items and I found it interesting to contemplate. Do most people do it this way?
  13. Intersting. When you do the "fill the bag price", do you just put your items in there without tallying the types of clothes your are sending? I always use the sheet to keep track of the items I expect to receive back.
  14. I have over 30 cruises with at least 1/3rd of those as a solo cruiser. I've been married for 45 years and have 2 children. I love to travel and they couldn't always go when I could, so I went by myself, starting around 1995. Why should I have to deny my travel lust because they couldn't go? I have eaten in the MDR on ships and I've eaten in the specialty dining venues, all while eating at a solo table. I'm doing exactly what I want to do and I'm having a great time. If people look at me with pity, that says more about them than me. By the way, I go camping in our 35ft. Motorhome by myself, drive for days in my car for land trips and have flown across the US for hotel trips too. Travel does not have to be shared to be a vacation. You can do it!
  15. Kazu, we were on deck 5. I do think it was like @weeislayman pointed out. It was probably the wind speed and direction. We were actually not aware of how much soot was on the deck floor until my husband noticed the bottom of my feet on the footstool. We could have asked the steward to clean it often, but chose not to. The sand, however, was another matter. I did not want him thinking that we had made that mess. This was our first aft balcony and our Caribbean route had our deck in full sun quite a few days with no breeze, thus requiring us to not only retreat to the inside, but to pull our curtains at times. We were worried it would heat the cabin.
  16. I do think there are a lot of first timers on cruises lately, but that shouldn't excuse this type of behavior. There are always new cruisers on ships. I was one once and not for a minute would I think it was acceptable to throw or shake something over a balcony railing even if I was on land, much less a cruise ship.
  17. Our recent cruise on the NA experienced quite a bit of soot on our aft cabin balcony, along with the slight smell of cigarette smoke and diesel fumes on occasion. Our balcony floor was actually very dirty and we didn't go outside without shoes. The worst situation was the afternoon leaving Half Moon Cay when some moron above us decided to shake sand from all of their belongings over their aft balcony. The deck railing was covered and it blew into about 1/3 of the balcony, even onto our footstools. First time I've ever experienced that in my cruising career.
  18. We had trouble on the Nieuw Amsterdam too. Over $2000 charge from the spa, a place I had never even been to.
  19. I will say that Crew Appreciation, if you have it included in HIA, may still show up with a charge and credit. My husband feels like it would need to be for HAL's accounting purposes.
  20. On our cruise there was a line item for the Shorex, Wifi and Dining with a 0 attributed to it. We had 2 dining credits and 2 shorex so it did appear twice. There is no line item for drinks and the drinks we consumed were not charged and then credited back.
  21. @Curlingwhiz I can't help with what HAL is telling you, but I can tell you what happened on my most recent cruise which ended on Dec. 21. The cruise was 21 days long and we purchased HIA at the time of booking. At the end of our cruise we were given credit for 21 days of Cruise and Tour Days. But we were also given 21 credits for Spending credits. We spent no additional money except for non-refundable OBC, given to us by HAL. Prior to boarding our cruise, our Star Credits were 135 and after the 42 credits earned, our balance is now at 177. HIA counts toward your spending and my other cruise in Dec. of 2021 with HIA was calculated in the same way. So, I think you should be go to go with the HIA for the credits you need.
  22. In my experience, we were credited for the number of days in the itinerary when we purchased HIA. So at then end of a 21 day cruise, we received 42 points.
  23. My husband and I don't both take home the tiles, even though they have delivered 2 in the past. Also if we are on a ship again and the design of the tile has not changed, we decline the tiles. I am still waiting for a tile from NA, from our Alaska 2021 cruise, but I doubt I will ever see that one. I just would like one to be available the next time we are on the NA.
