Live, NCL Spirit-Tahiti to Hawaii 4/10 - 4/22
ChiefMateJRK replied to Rick&Jeannie's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Thanks for this. I've googled the five musicians/groups that you posted earlier. I'm pretty sure I'll find several to follow around. I like the variety. Sounds like piano man/pianist/classic guitar/rock-type group and that duo. I was able to find some youtube clips of several. Please keep us posted on what you think about any that you attend. Thanks. -

Thanks. This is exactly what I would call a safety issue for anybody getting older, having bad knees, and refusing to do anything that increases the risk of winding up in a foreign hospital (or any hospital) with a broken hip, etc. -

These things make my back hurt just looking at them. Did you need a step ladder to get in and out? Any safety concerns? -
Why do you have zero interest in POA? We sailed her once and found her to be an enjoyable, lower cost way to see Hawaii than land vacations. That said, while it's great to visit Hawaii once in a while (we're returning soon), it's not my "go to" destination. That would be Alaska. POA is an easy seven day cruise that gets you to multiple islands without any hassles. Expensive? Yes. US crew? Yes (the reader can decide what that means to them). Limited on board amenities? Yes. But most of that shouldn't matter much to somebody who would just love to visit Hawaii. I'm not sure how much would change if NCL could swap in another ship.

I was on both the Sun and Sky last year, and they both are in great shape.

Thanks! It looks like there are a lot of musicians to choose from. -
I would also add that we keep our passports and medications with us in case "stuff" happens.

Thank you. I'm particularly interested in hearing if there is anyone who plays classic rock. -

I would like to hear about your experiences with on-board musicians in the bars and lounges. Thanks. -
Do you prefer sailing on newer or older NCL ships?
ChiefMateJRK replied to asouthey1's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
I don't understand why age has anything to do with it. The newest ships are smaller than some classes of older ships I stick with Encore, Bliss, any jewel class, sun, sky. I haven't yet sailed the Sprit but will soon and expect it to be much like the smaller ships listed above. I won't experience Prima class until next year and Aqua in 2026. I don't consider any of the others because they don't have observation lounges. Joy went from my sail list to avoid list when they butchered that nice OL. -

Cruise Next - Double Up for ANY stateroom

Post #7 by @dbrown84 in this thread indicates that it was also being offered for any cabin in October 2023. So definitely August, October, December of 2023. -
Cruise Next - Double Up for ANY stateroom
ChiefMateJRK replied to reeinaz's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
I think you are mistaken. I almost always book insides, so have taken advantage of these any-cabin promos many times. My last two cruises ended in August and December of 2023. I bought quite a few CNs on both of those and was able to apply two each to existing bookings when I received them. That tells me that the promo was running in August and December. I believe it ran earlier this year as well, and now again in April. Based upon this (limited) history, I would suggest that the double up any cabin runs about every other month. -
Dawn = no OL = no sale.

Thanks. Do you know when the CN you are buying was originally purchased? If before Jan 11, 2024, that won't answer the question. -
Interior to balcony free upgrade - Free at Sea perks
ChiefMateJRK replied to First traveler's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
FIFY. The OP only indicated that he/she had made final payment, but didn't tell us if it was at or before the final payment due date. Some people pay in full when they book and have months to make any changes that they wish to. The fact that they were able to upgrade to a cheaper cabin suggests it is before final payment due date. NCL doesn't allow upgrades to better cabins unless the passenger has to pay more. It can be very little. I once upgraded from an inside to an ocean view a few weeks prior to sailing for $1.58. -
Have NCL passengers gotten more rude?
ChiefMateJRK replied to blackwing's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Yep. Not to mention that they often operate at ninja speed and having some layman trying to self clean would likely just slow everything down. -

Has anybody used this promo to add a CN cert purchased after Jan 11 to an existing booking? Thanks. -

Norwegian Jade - MDRs and long cruises
ChiefMateJRK replied to dmwnc1959's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Glad we could help. I've sailed NCL a lot, and really couldn't care less where I eat. I'll have free drinks everywhere and I can only eat so much food. To be honest, after starting the day with a great (free) breakfast and a couple of bloody Mary's, it's just autopilot until the evening entertainment. That said, and contrary to some, I do enjoy the show at Teppanyaki. It's like an early start to the evening's singing and fun. I book 5:00.😎 -
Norwegian Jade - MDRs and long cruises
ChiefMateJRK replied to dmwnc1959's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
The majority here would never pay extra for added specialty dining. FAS? Great, enjoy your one - three "free" dinners. Platinum or above? Great, enjoy your two added free dinners. Beyond that? No way I'm paying what they're asking for what they are delivering. The MDR/Local/etc. are just fine. Que the contrarian opinions. -
I sail Southwest exclusively, and for the past several years about one in four flights has a meaningful amount of empty seats.
