ldtr - I agree with you. As we all know, ports can be changed at last minute due to weather, big icebergs that prevent ship from getting near port, etc. CD and/or Captain or other staff can be on vacation.

I agree with you. I was on the Veendam years ago and they had a big library with a good librarian. Like you said, "it was a sanctuary - a quiet place with comfortable seating just to relax in, read your own book, watch the ocean, etc. " I agree it was "more like the libraries portrayed in English manor houses."

Charlene1985 - I love carrot cake too. I was on Niew Statendam for 24 days in August. I don't think it was ever on menu for lunch at Lido or MDR at dinner or at a specialty restaurant. I would have remembered that. The next time I cruise I will ask waiters in MDR if it's available.

Jacqui - So glad you will have dinner at Rudi's tonight. You will love it! My stepfather and I ate there on the NS in August. I recommend the Dover sole and Crepes Suzzette, but I'm sure everything there is great. I can't remember what my stepfather had, but he enjoyed it. Waitress was attentive and she deboned my sole at the table. I bought Rudi's cookbook. Enjoy!

LMaxwell - I agree with you. The crew are appreciative of cash. They work hard for long hours and they deserve it. 😊

Jacqui - I agree with you that staying onboard at a port is much quieter and it feels almost like you have the ship to yourself. I also noticed on the NS in August that the wifi was much faster after the gangway opened and many people left the ship. Agree that the laundry service is top notch. I'm glad you found your bathrobe. Thanks for all your great reporting. I hope your foot will be better soon.
